Guest shantrb Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Just looking at the two clubs occupying the automatic "promotion spots in the league.. their gates (at home) this weekend were as follows, S****horpe: 5312, Yeovil:5984.As far as i know they have no money, no Academy, dodgy grounds and S****horpe's pitch is as rough as a bear's arse. Their training pitches/wages would not be as good as ours i would guess?Sorry, forgot about Oldham, a point behind us and had a massive 5429 at home this weekend and they were in second place at 3 0clock yesterday!!How do teams like these and in previous years i.e. Colchester, Southend, Luton DO IT??With 13 games to go and having the best manager here for years now, seeing the best display for 10 years at Oldham and finally a squad of players ALL fighting for the shirt ..... I cannot take failure again and somehow need advice on how to obtain promotion as stated above. i.e Sh!t crowds if we fail. I suppose I can "Always Believe"

Guest paulie Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 we take failure every year,we are used to it,but like you i think this ,should,,was ,,can be ,,ought to be,our year
Guest Shadow Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 How do teams like these and in previous years i.e. Colchester, Southend, Luton DO IT??It's not about how many fans you get, it's about how consistent the team is over 46 matches. The league table doesn't tell lies. The two that finish top will have deserved it. Let's hope this year, finally, one of them is us.
reddoh Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I'm sorry but if we fail yet again, and friggin YEOVIL get promoted then I think ill be just about ready to give up.why ? there is always next year
bransonmo Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Lot of posts around Christmas were saying we need not worry about Yeovil. They were just a small club with a small budget and a small squad...........Guess who is currently 2end. Small prehaps, but with obviously big hearts and some smart loan signings. Crowds of around 5000 and thats what Col U's are drawing in the Championship. I hope we can maintain some momentum for the run home, but I wont dismiss Yeovil from the playoffs at least. We just have to be better, and I do believe our squad can smell promotion, want promotion and see the next few months as the answer to their career prospects and earnings.

exiledinwatford Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 GJ has assembled a squad full of team spirit which IMHO has been his most significant contribution. I think that might just be that "bit extra" that we need. Players are certainly good enough - as long as the believe!

I suppose I can "Always Believe"Perhaps the truth is these teams are not expected to do much and the fan are not so hungry for glory at city the expectation is very high, each year we stay in this league it grows so players are not allowed to develop we bring new players in then its a merry go round
Bristol Boy Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Shrewd Management-Very Low Expectation Levels-Clever Budgeting and Strong Leadership.Mind you, you can have all that, then it goes pearshaped, you go bust or nearly and plummet like a stone.Ask Rotherham, Gillingham, Swindon & Walsall. There's no magic solution and, initially certainly, it's nothing to do with support, a youth set up or having a decent ground as Forest,City & Swansea have all proved. The trick is to link all the items above and find the right combination ala Watford,Reading, Blackburn, Pompey, Middlesboro, Fulham & Wigan.

I suppose I can "Always Believe"Perhaps you've answered your own question, Perhaps our players are pampered (in comparison) to the clubs you have mentioned, Take a good look at this seasons BCFC team photo, Almost as many backroom staff as players, Only thing missing is an official arse wiper. But, Hopefully the team spirit, belief, strong squad and most importantly a manager who won't take crap from his players will be enough this season.

Just keep them coming!

Just keep them coming! Too many not to notice, and well done on your achievements with such limited resources. Good to see MS with another mom/winning goal combination. Our home match with your team is to die for. Should really put the bums on seats and will be a 6 pointer without doubt. I support BCFC, but fair play and comment is likewise worthy of support.

Just keep them coming! There's an old saying about being careful what you wish for, you just might get it.Taking a look at Colchester this year, really makes you wonder. The big question is "Is it sustainable?" Small clubs with worst grounds than yours have gone up in Walsall (Improved the ground since) & Rotherham (Administration), take the ground away and just look at attendances and you could throw in Gillingham and it's ended in tears.Having said that the last time we were promoted we came straight back down.......back to the management & leadership thing. For GJ to match his acheivements at Yeovil he needs to get City in The Premiership-that's the correct comparison although The Championship and consolidation would be a major first step. Before people laugh, Bolton & Watford, with Watford being the best comparision as they don't have a sugar daddy now that Eltons not piling his dough in and, in fairness, he was never a Jack Walker type investor let alone an Abramovich.Bolton do have a multi millionaire owner/benefactor who lives in the Isle of Man and he stumps up about £10m a season to support a very shrewd manager.I've heard all this nonsense about small squads and not enough quality players before and it's all been proved wrong as clubs with those set ups have sailed past us.As Colchester proved, attendances & stadia don't come into it.......yet.
Guest Cider Jaaarn Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 How do we do it?Well for starters we haven't actually done anything yet.I kind of know how you guys feel, we spent years in the conference watching 'smaller' clubs fly past us, Cheltenham, Rushden, Maccy and Boston. The thing is there is much more to success in football than getting a squad of good players together. One of our current strengths is a small squad, it may also prove to be a weakness. One of GJ's weaknesses is gathering a large squad thereby spreading his budget instead of paying extra for 2-3 players of quality. Russell Slade has done just that with Mildenhall, Forbes, Cohen and Stewart.Looking forward to meeting you in the play offs

No problem babber, but on a Bristol City forum you obviously might find some piss taking of other clubs. If I was inclined to go onto other clubs forums I might find the same.Personally, I don't go on other clubs forums, nothing against people that do, it's a free world, but hey. I don't care what is happening on forums such as Swindon, Yeovil, Prats etc.Your team are doing exceptionally well, congratulations. If you want to bait people on here are you really surprised when you get a reaction.Banter, fishing, piss taking, debate, rivalry........it's all good, carry on posting.ps If you get promoted and we don't, I'll still post on here.
