Dissapointment, a shambles, bad performance etc..... all comes with losing to our nearest rivals. However:

We were undoubtedly poor by our standards over the two legs, Rovers were not better than us but they did raise their level of performance. They deserved the overall result. The question is, as many have said, is it that important in the context of our season? NO! We are an underachieveing side desperately wanting promotion with the makings of a squad that can definately take us there. In comparison, the Gas are a side that have 5 years under their belt of poor league finishes and being in the shadow of us.. Which they still are.

To all those in sheer anger and dismay over our loss tonight please look at the wider picture. Saturdays game is far more important than this one. We have 2 games in hand on second place and we are 2 points off it. I think for once we all need to have the same vision and thats promotion.. don't get me wrong I'm gutted about tonight I went to AG to watch the game but this comp. is not important! I think you will find GJ feels the same. If we were a side that had no promotion aspirations then maybe but we arent so lets move on...and quickly. 3 of our 4 next games are at home..we have 2 games in hand lets go and take this league by the horns and laugh in the face of those smug Gas heads who think they are great because they are going to Cardiff. Been there, done that, got the T shirt....

I for 1 am going to be at AG on Sat singing my heart out for the boys....the club needs 12,000 or so doing it also......

Lets make the dream a reality..

Roll on Saturday

Fair enough but it wasn't "either or" we could have had both. If GJ doesn't care about losing to the gas then he should say it and see what happens! I know promotion is top of the list and rightly so but this does hurt tonight and I hope the players and manager understand.

I will still be there singing along with you on Saturday but I expect a performance to make up for tonight.

I tend to agree, I found it hard to get into a frenzy about this competition and therefore gave the hype a wide birth. However, many will be perplexed by the last two games and it is hard not to be dissapointed in the extreme that over two legs City have failed to cause the Rovers goal much bother.City's creativity from open play appears to be a problem of late, to much route one and no control all that played right into Rovers hands last week and tonight.

From the comments on the "Trouble" thread is appears City fans have alledgedly born the brunt of what could midly be called banter all a result of the unbeliavable hype that only the underdog could benifit from. from my perspective I possiably don't feel as bad as some tonight because of my whole attitude to this event. My concern now is how City react to this dissapointment and the real business which starts again on Saturday. But make no mistake, the club, management and players should realise that a large proportion of their fan base feel preety hacked off and let down at the moment.

All of the above is in the cold light of day true. BUT. Players, managers, chairmen, directors all come and go. Us fans are there for LIFE. Everyone at Bristol City Football Club in my opinion has a DUTY to perform to the absolute maximum when facing the GAS on a football field. Having devoted 40 of my 48 years to BCFC I'm sorry, but I feel VERY let down tonight. And as for all you so called 'City fans' on here who were cheering on Rovers against Strewsbury the other week, well I hope you're all pleased with yourselves, and will be following your new team to Cardiff. Shame on you. You shouldn't be able to look at yourselves in the mirror tomorrow morning.

That sounds very good until you look at performances at home over the season in a lot of our games we have given a poor account of our self coming back after falling behind but we have managed to pull it back.

The team has lacked width pace & vision that's because we pack the defence and midfield with player and most have not got the skills or vision to unlock defence's some of our away results have been outstanding because we don't need to break down sides away from home.

My problem is I don't know if we are good enough to go up and stay there

Why, i cheered for the gas.

We have made a lot of money from the two games which is good for the club. I don`t feel let down, losing is part of Football , get over it and lets look at the big picture. My biggest worry is that after GJ had them locked in the changing room for an hour after the game, they don`t drop their heads and lose on Saturday.

Brilliantly put mate, this should be copied and pasted and sent to every single one of the players.....

Spot on. As we say time and again, this season will be judged as a success or otherwise based purely on whether we get promotion or not. Yes, it's nice to make a few quid from the final and have a nice day. Good luck to the Gas - we did little on the pitch to suggest we deserved it more, in either leg. But I felt strangely at peace after the game compared to previous defeats at the hands of our rivals. Why? Because unlike the bitter defeats of days gone past this really was a sideshow, and what I really care about is the league. This is not sour grapes, as I posted the same before the game and I would have said the same if we had won. I have been worrying in recent weeks that as a result of having so many cup games, we are paying an increasing penalty in terms of the league. Now (and it's a cliche, but a true one in this case) we can concentrate on the league. No prospect of a cup final over the hill to distract players. They will have their minds set on one thing and one thing alone. And that is no bad thing at all.

If - God forbid - we end up in League One again next season, I sincerely hope we play the youngsters from the start of the competition. It's a great way to give them experience and a chance to break through. Also, for them it will be a bigger game and they are more likely to motivate themselves for it.

looking at the games that were played last night, we shouldn't be too downhearted as it puts us in a good position to push for promotion. of course i am a disappointed as everyone else about losing last night, but this could be very insignificant in the bigger picture of the season if we can make promotion a reality

I for one do not care about this cup as someone has said got the t-shirt! Its a mickey mouse cup and we should concentrate and get out of this league! It is disappointing losing to the GAS but move on and lets get promotion!!!!

aaaw diddums, are the nasty Rovers fans making your life a misery today? I sat in a hotel in Sunderland and watched all the league results go our way and thought what a great night. Not only are we in a better position in the league, but we don't have the distraction of the JPT trophy anymore.

Just think which you would rather have at the end of the season, Championship football or 13th in the basement league and a JPT losers medal.
