BS3_RED Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 http://www.bristolcityst.org.uk/trust_news...cle000274.shtmlI'll tell you now.....Its not that unthinkable. If we say that Scunny should have a top 2 spot sewn up then that leaves ONE place up for grabs with several teams in the hunt for it.I have seen nothing from City this season to suggest we are better than the other teams, just like i have seen nothing from the other teams to suggest that they are better than us.So with that in mind, we couls easily finish 2nd, 6th or ( i don't want to think it) outside the play-offs.Now is the time to start a run and be consistent, and if we cant it will be play-offs at best.
Red Robin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 http://www.bristolcityst.org.uk/trust_news...cle000274.shtmlanyone of the teams can take it,it depends who can put a good run together and not BOTTLE it which we are proven at.can you honestly say we will take max points at home to yeovil.forest, swansea some how i don't think so.
Guest tommy doc Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 If you want to think the unthinkable, imagine being beaten by Yoevil in the play-offs. Even more unthinkable, we hold our nerve and go up. Hooray.
red man dan Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 i,m tempted to say, in fact more than tempted to say going up is the unthinkable. I guess that is what years of dissapointment and under achievemnet at this club has instilled in me, its been fun though...i guess.I think if scunny stay injury free (well billy sharp stays fit), they will win the league, as for second, its been said before, there doesnt appear to be a stand out team in the chasing pack that can claim that second spot for sure.If we play to our ability, i would say it should be between us and forest, BUT, neither us or forest have been consistent, and yeovil seem to keep churning out results (thanks in part to a certain striker....await boring, get over it comments, well we wont have got over it if Yeovil finish second).Personally, i can see swanpsea scraping into the play offs, and as we knoe far too well, they are a lottery, as i think the end of the season and second place will be.
Dolman Block B Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 If you want to think the unthinkable, imagine being beaten by Yoevil in the play-offs. Even more unthinkable, we hold our nerve and go up. Hooray. You think thats bad.Even worse, imagine Yeovil beating us in the playoffs and a certain MARCUS STEWART scoring the winner!!!!Lets not even go there shall we....... :sofa:
samo Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 anyone of the teams can take it,it depends who can put a good run together and not BOTTLE it which we are proven at.can you honestly say we will take max points at home to yeovil.forest, swansea some how i don't think so.Come on, just admit it; you don't want us to go up. Every bl00dy post you put up knocks the team or the manager, I can't remember you posting anything when we were in our unbeaten run and doing well in the FA cup.I sick and tired of logging on each day to see your constant wailing and gnashing of teeth over just how s**t you think we are. You and all the other bridge-jumpers on here seem to relish each loss and to be honest your mindless pessimism is really grating. And don't try all that "I'm just a realist" balls, because you have little or no grounds for it. We have performed well in a league (only 2 lost in 16) and two cups, and now sit in as good a position to go up as we have for several years. Just because we lost a game doesn't automatically make us rubbish.I just really hope no players or coaching staff ever read this forum, cause if I was in their place I'd wonder why I bother with fans like you.
citytop22 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 http://www.bristolcityst.org.uk/trust_news...cle000274.shtmlNext 4 games will do it for me, 3 wins and a draw will get me believing this will be our year, All I hope is that we have the bottle to cope with the pressure (we have the players) and that the manager does not play silly games with formations and tactics. Also its time for the fans to make themselves heard, if ever there is a time to lift the roof off its Saturday,

Lordofthebling Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Good article, but we have to stay positive...Most of the time we have all the good stuff, huge long unbeaten runs, cup runs, go so close and its all over. This year, hopefully, after all this rubbish about suspensions, jail sentences and the gas, it could be time for our silver lining. Always believe and all that.Once again, a good article BB, and I now have a new signature.
RedTop Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 http://www.bristolcityst.org.uk/trust_news...cle000274.shtmlInteresting and thought-provoking article, BB, but I can't agree that this season is any more pivotal to the club's future than any other. You also think S****horpe are nailed on for promotion but I don't happen to agree - look what's happened to Forest and Oldham, who have both had suicidal plunges out of the blue. Yes, they are strong favourites but their lead is hardly unassailable. We are eight points above seventh spot having played two games fewer, with just 11 games (a maximum of 33 points) left for Swansea to catch us. We have 13 left.In my opinion the play-offs look a near certainty. The trick is to look up, not down, and for us to see our goal as catching S****horpe, not worrying about the teams way below us. That gap with seventh spot has opened up with us barely noticing. Why? Because we've been focused on the top two, and seen our battle in terms of matching their results and stealing a lead on them when they slip up. It is a sign of how far we have come in such a short time that we will be disappointed with a play-off place. Doubtless there will be numbskulls on this very forum calling for GJ's head if we only make the play-offs. But I believe we have a damned good chance of an automatic spot, and the table bears that out. The best thing that could have happened as far as promotion goes is that we went out of the cup. Now everyone can concentrate on one target, and one target alone - and that is a top two spot.

Just because we lost a game doesn't automatically make us rubbish.Despite losing 8 games so far this season or 2 in 16 if you prefer City have still yet to convince many fans that they have what it takes to get up automatically. How many times so far this season in the league can we say that City were really impressive? Maybe the Oldham away game but apart from that its a struggle to remember any other 'promotion' performances. There have been several AG wins by one goal where City have struggled and other comebacks to draw games after playing so crap that City were 2-0 down.Imo City's performance have been to close to edge all season and the team has got away with it by and large due to the poor quality of the league. There have been times when they haven't 'got away with it' - Cheltenham at home for example.

Bristol Boy Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 If we play to our ability, i would say it should be between us and forest, BUT, neither us or forest have been consistent, and yeovil seem to keep churning out results. The funny thing is that before they beat Swansea 1-0 they'd lost their last two games and hardly anyone noticed-That's expectation levels for you as it would have been a crisis here Despite losing 8 games so far this season or 2 in 16 if you prefer City have still yet to convince many fans that they have what it takes to get up automatically. What normally happens is that a team, most teams, will perform really well about 6-10 times a season. After that they will perform well in periods during matches, ten minutes here, twenty there or for a half. That will happen say, 20/25 times a season. After that it about a bit of luck with a decision, injuries, mistakes and only being well set up and organised is what sees you through. All that appiles to a team having a good season obviously, not a bad one.In the two games against Rovers we were badly set up yet reasonably well organised at the back and thus, playing against a poor team, only conceded one goal during two uninspiring, unacceptable performances that were well below our best.Miles below. We created more than Rovers by one shot. That's how bad both sides were. This season for me, we have been below our performance level during the last 25 games of last season when our form was that of Champions and actually exceeded that of both automatically promoted teams.Despite signing eleven new players, better players in McAllister, McCombe & ES, this season hasn't been as good. That's my worry.IMHO the reasons are:LJ in midfield replacing a solid middle two with a more attacking player that doesn't retain possesion as well. For some games we've gone into them with five attacking players in LJ, two strikers and two wingers. Not solving the left side of midfield problem coupled with losing LW who was looking comfortable there, despite being right sided he was a quality footballer and scored goals. The loss of form & absence of Brooker.....take 17 of Sharps goals away and see where that leaves S****horpe. The absence of ES for over half our games. The combined absence of ES & SB for 30 of our games, about 70%.Two or Three tactical & selection faux pas by GJ.Very occassionaly playing players in the wrong positions-Skuse wide left being the worst.Suspensions to key players and some silly bookings.Bad luck with injuries.Apart from the injury related reasons the rest are avoidable and GJ will have to seriously consider his striking options whether in this division or The Championship if ES & SB continue to go missing over the remainder of this season.
Bristol Boy Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 Once again, a good article BB, and I now have a new signature.I actually thought about that part getting taken out of context when I wrote it but though, what the hell, let's cheer the lads up!!
icamanicity Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 We should be trying to take pressure off the team as the run in approaches, trying to lift the team, because that could make all the difference between winning or losing, as you can see with forest and oldham once you start to think you are there, you hit that brick wall. So everyone lets all go on the scunny`s forum, and tell how great they are and that they are certs to go up, then watch them slip up...
Guest joeroamin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 As a Donny fan ...There are 8-9 teams that are as inconsistant /good as each other on their day ..We will not make the playoff's ,I'm certain -had our chance AND blew it.From what I have seen ,Swansea would be my bet IF they make it to the Finals .I'm resigned to another year in league 1 -and a weekend in Cardiff (not having a dig)...Poor inconsistant league again ,and I fear with Leeds etc coming down ,it's going to get worse (to get out of) especially if Forest saty down as well .ATB.

An don't worry about Leeds if they drop. They've barely managed to adapt to the Championship after relegation, and I can see them being more like Nottm Forest last term or worse if they are relegated. Half the fans are still always harpng on about them being in europe 6 years ago, the others are afraid of what will happen if they have to start grinding out results at Huddersfield and Bradford. They'll be there for the taking.
Guest Gary the Dogs Johnsons Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I may be the only one but I think we are still in for a shout of top spot. Until mathematically impossible there are still 2 places available. It aint over til the fat lady sings folks.
