Having just got back to Glos i drove up the motorway pondering the sort of threads i might find here tonight. Imagine my disappointment at not finding any threads having a go a GJ or LJ or the team in general. Imagine my shock at seeing fans agreeing with eachother !!

Priority today was 3 pts. Job done, tick in the box.

Second was to put in a performance to help put the JPT behind and us restore some pride back into the side.

Well, LJ losing possesion twice in the first 30 secs wasn`t a good omen, i have to say. But hats off to GJ and the squad for a performance that, hopefully, will have raised the spirits of the supporters, especially those that took Tues defeat to heart. Only 1-0 but it could have been 3 or 4.

Brooker continues to improve and i thought he was outstanding today. Smith starting was a surprise, but more surprising was the way they looked liked they`d been playing together all season. Smith put himself about a bit and the only thing missing was getting on the score sheet. The defence looked solid.

Wilson did well as left wingback, Noble had a very good game. It was noticeable that things fell apart a bit when LJ was subbed. People knock him at times and sometimes you don`t notice what he does for the side when he`s on the pitch but it was certainly noticeable when he went off. Jevons was a huge disappointment for me. Losing out to Smith in the starting line up must have niggled him, at least i hope it did. But when you`d think that he`d put the effort in when he came on, he didn`t. He had a chance shortly after coming on but after that it was half hearted effort that seemed disinterested at best. Basso, for the most part was solid, again, bar some poor kicking towards the end and a near fatal misunderstanding with Keogh that nearly gifted an equaliser.

For me though, and rightly voted for by the fans, MOM goes to Kevin Betsy for a display of wing play thats been sorely missed at the gate this season.

A big improvement for me, and at times some great passing and movement. A little overcomplicated at times, but also good to see individuals taking players on AND beating them. Last 10 mins got a bit nervy when we couldn`t, or wouldn`t might be more appropriate, get out of our own half.

Just what we needed before the trip to Chesterfield on Tues where a point has to be the minimum before a chance to pick up 6 in the next two home games.

Finally hats off to Noble for his gesture at the end that was appreciated by all who saw it.

1 down 12 to go. WE CAN DO THIS.

Dying in my sick bed I had to miss today's game - intrigued by the Noble gesture - tell me more?

Last off the pitch, applauded all sides of the ground..

And went, 'WHEEEEEEEEEEEY' with his arm.

I think its called....hang on....was it...passion?

After ALL the players applauded the fans, i might add, Nobes made a point off going around to the stands to applaud the fans. I`ve read irate posts over the past few days, some accusing GJ and the players of not realising the `importance` of the derby matches, which quite frankly is a joke. But the fans got behind the team today and that was acknowledged at the end.

It's funny how we all see a different game, I thought we were hanging on at the end (and GJ confirmed "we hung on" in his interview on radio Brizz), the neat incisive build up play was topped off by a lack of quality in the final ball or attempt at goal.

The two substitutions seemed to knock us back and the pace of the game deteriorated throughout the second half.

It's not all bad, had we manged to convert a decent ratio of chances into goals, we'd have beaten them 4 or 5 nil, but the fact we didn't and we endured a nervy final 15 minutes is a worry, a better side than Northampton, maywell have taken a point, if not all three from us.

A check on current form would have told you that Northampton are turning thing s round and have one of if not the best away record in the div.The last 10 was a bit hanging on, but we sat back too much and when you do that you`re going to keep giving posession away. Having said that they still created little in the way of a clear cut chance.

Tbf, bucks, the thread title is misleading to the post. Enough of this moaning about the moaning err... about the moaning ..... it's twisting my melon as much as anything. When we lose people need to apportion blame but yesterday we didn't so that's my answer to the question itself. Enough of this futile bollox anyway.

As for yesterday, like Maeksnoll says: it's funny how interpretation differs. I personally would go as far as saying that that first half display was the best I've seen all season (Oldham/Coventry the only challangers). Also like Maeksnoll says: If only we'd had the quality and clinicality at the business end of the pitch we'd have been out of sight.

Other points I'd like to raise are that wandering around at half time I could see the smiles actually returning to the faces, the cynic's uncyniced and the happy clappers at happier and clappier. Although a wall of noise isn't looking possible with current circumstance there was a certifiably positive atmosphere around the old Ground, like I say, smiles on faces, a spring in the step.

I heard Johnson's pre match interview and he spoke of how they'd been working on how to actually attack team's and break them down etc, about Betsy and Wilson and getting the ball wide, I was thinking: ''yeah yeah yeah Gary, whatever mate, I don't listen anymore, I'll judge that on what I see''. And on what I did see first half we were looking to play the game the right way, almost overly elaborate at times. Neat, skillful Football, a spectacle, I've seen enough glimses in the past to not question this squad's technical ability anyway tbf. Tactics and desire are the only question marks for me. 'Need to be more ruthless' was the obvious lesson to be learnt from yesterday.

Other lingering thoughts: That fatefal night I believe may just prove to be the catalyst, the kick in the ass that these lads and us The People desperately needed. Ability or potential alone is not enough. Possibly the news that this forum shut down due to the potential of it combustionly imploding under the sheer heat of Tuesday night's events filtered through? It spoke volumes. I didn't see Noble at the end, but Lee Johnson applauding ALL sections of City was well received, these lads are hopefully realising that they are payed to care.

Also, a fairly basic Northampton side at home was a fortunate twist of fate. 3 or 4-0 would have been sweet, 1-0 and debate still engaged in over 'hanging on' etc should keep our feet grounded. Relatively speaking I wasn't too displeased with our vocal support as well, it does make a difference.

12 more ''Cup Finals'' Gary ;)

Here I am!

Yes, a good win, but it could've been so much better.

Johnson made errors in substitution AGAIN by taking off Smith for the static Jevons and the Brooker for the ineffective Andrews. Our general performance was woeful from around the hour mark and we should have brushed Northampton aside.

As it were we AGAIN (and how many times have we said this at the Gate this season) were hanging on to a 1 goal lead.

Yes, it was the right result and the results are important, so is performance and it could've so easily ended in a draw with the pressure on us at the end of the game.

It annoyed and frustrated me that Johnson said in his after-match statement that we have been 'rewarded with a good game that could have been a two or three-nil result' - well, WHY WASN'T IT THEN?

The performance in the first hour was fabulous and exactly what I'm looking for when I go see City play, but we just can't maintain that consistency over the 90 minutes, this time because Johnson tinkered with the team when it didn't need it. I detest seeing us struggle and hanging on at the end of a game WHEN WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE AT HOME AND CONTENDING FOR A PROMOTION SPOT.

Hang on a minute the first half was OK but don't carried away, by us not getting a second goal the second half towards the end was a bit worrying.

When they started to play in the second half we were dropping back in defence putting us under more pressure. The first half we were bright but still gave away the ball to much.

Johnson must by hook or by crook get us another class forward to gets us promoted as of right.

Noble sounds like he played well, as most knew he would if EVENTUALLY GJ put him the team.Good result.

So here is one poster who is about, even after a win still asking questions about GJ, NOT suggesting he is rubbish he is far from it as he is FAR from perfect, we are third which is great, BUT that doesnt mean you turn a blind eye to everything.

I would like to think GJ can be and is critical of himself (as some fans myself included are of him at times) and I'm sure he is. If you cant be critical of youself that would lead to complacency, and you would never improve your weaknesses.

'Critisism leads to inquirey which leads to discourse which encourages progress'

So as to your 'where are they?' i would like to think those who are constructively and sensibly critical of GJ now and then are still very much about.
