SimplyRed Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 It seems to me that a lot of people have already written off top spot and say it's between us and Forest for 2nd place. Why?If we win our games in hand, we are only 5 points behind with 10 games to go. I don't think that's impossible to make up, especially if we start playing like we know we're capable of for 90 minutes instead of just 60.Comparing our run-in with S****horpe's:They have 10 games remaining, 5 against top-10 (T10) opposition with 2 of those games Away (2A), plus 4 against mid-table teams (MT) with 3A, plus 1 against a bottom-six team (B6), away (1A).We, on the other hand, have 12 games remaining, 5xT10 (2A), 3xMT(3A) and 4xB6(1A)Their away games against T10 opposition are Tranmere and Blackpool, where ours are Carlisle and Donny. Given the choice, I prefer ours.We have very similar home games in that they have Forest, Yeovil and Carlisle and we have Forest,Yeovil and Swansea.Their away games against MT opposition are Brighton, Orient and Northampton with Hudd at home, while ours are all away to Crewe, Gills and Millwall. Fairly even, I'd say.Their B6 game is home to Bradford, while we have 3 at home to Brentford, Bradford and Rotherham with an away game at Chesterfied on Wednesday.I think there is a lot of significance on the Forest and Yeovil games. If we do better than Scunny against these teams, we must be in with a shout. Also, I fancy us to do better at Carlisle and Donny than they will do at Tranmere and Blackpool. Carlisle and Donny are beatable and I think Scunny may have to settle for 3 or 4 points at Tranmere and Blackpool. So it's here we may gain 2 or 3 points.I never usually analyse run-ins, preferring to see how it all pans out, but I was a little put out about everyone assuming S****horpe Champions with so many games to go. It's not over by a long chalk, so let's not give up on top spot... yet.
Robbored Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Its all speculation of course with lots 'ifs'. Especially the 'if' City win their two games in hand..Looking at Scunny's and City's run-in I would agree that ours does seem to be just about the 'easier' of the two with those extra games against bottom 6 opposition but at this stage of the season anything can happen. Some teams hit form just at the right time - like Scunny recently and other stumble - like Oldham recently. Forest hit 5 yesterday and maybe that'll kick start them after some dodgy results lately.Interesting to see how they fare against Doncaster on Tuesday night.City's inconsistancy still worries me.Yesterdays win was achieved with a solid enough perfomance and the 1-0 result flattered N'hampton. It could have been 3 or even 4-0 but we still don't know what team will turn up at Chesterfield on Wednesday night.Even if Johnson picks the same squad its still no guarantee that the players will be able to perform.I would love to see City hit some sparkling form which we all know they are capable of and start looking more convincing.Maybe the fantastic form of Noble will be the key.
westonred Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I agree !!! Just look at Oldham, they were top 5 games ago and everyones favourite to be champions, then they went on a terrible run and dropped down to 5th.... That can happen to Scunnie so Keep Believing !!!!!! C.T.I.D
NiceRed Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Scunny WILL have a dodgy spell between now and the end of the season, I'm sure of it. Just hope we're there to take advantage.
Will Rollason Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Well.............Scunny are, i believe, the only team to so far have kept up with GJ's assessment of 2 points per game equalling promotion ( played 36 points 73). they are also top of the form guide .......p....w....d.....l.....f.....a......pts........ 6.. ..6 ...0 ..0. ..13 ....2......18Their goal diff (31) is almost double everyone elses ( except Oldham), they have won their last 7 and are unbeaten in last 14 and since keogh has left Beckford has stepped up to help Sharp who in 35 league games has scored 20 goals. Apart from that , yes we have every chance of catching them Seriously though a run like they are on..how long can they keep it up??
Kibs Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Its a huge ask, We would have to hit a similar patch of form to what they are in now and continue it until the end of the season. I do believe they will hit a bad patch and we need to make sure we are there to capitalise. We also need one of the strikers to start hitting the back of the net on a more regular basis. They are top mainly due to their goalscorers Sharp and Beckford. Cant believe leeds havent recalled him or arent thinking of doing it!!
Bristol Boy Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 All ifs and buts, however, our fate is in our hands.Whilst other results can help or hinder, IF we win our next three games, the picture will be much clearer and we'll know the outcome of Forest v S****horpe.Winning all of our home games and we started with Ntn yesterday, will give us a great chance.
exiledinwatford Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Depends how Scunny handle the pressure - no disrespect but a "small" club might already be looking at Chamionship football and get the jitters. They could slip up - let's hope we keep the pressure on!
SimplyRed Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 Aw... come on! There was only 3 'ifs' and one 'but' (and the 'but' wasn't relevant to the results speculation!)... Seriously... I wasn't really trying speculate on the results to come, merely trying to make the point that we shouldn't accept 2nd place as the target, but that we should still have top spot in our sights.

What i can't understand is why leeds have let beckford go on loan to s****horpe, when it is clear they could do with him. doesn't say a lot for Dennis Wise does it?

samo Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I know its crazy, it must be driving their fans mad!!Oh, it is. Trust me, I work along side a load of them! They'll be utterly gutted after yesterday too, especially with Beckford scoring AGAIN, whilst they lose by a single strike AGAIN. One was saying that if they added Bekford's strikes for Scunny to their matches on the same days they'd be out of the relegation zone by now!
