Guest leedsred Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 The champions league semi.... the Anfield crowd are just awesome. With 4000 cider'eds in the Eastend lets raise the roof. Lets play our part and inspire the boys to victory. u reds... i'm getting so excited about this weekend i can't sleep!!!!
redmelsh Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I agree, thought it looked excellent, especially with all the scarves...They produce one of the best home atmospheres in english football IMO...what i would give to see the gate like that week in week out!
exiledinwatford Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 The scarves as well - swinging around. Is it only Tuesday night???????
Guest Captain _Z Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I got to say this.... Get down to AG Saturday with a stall full of scraves, you make a killing.
Bristol Boy Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Anyone notice the distance between the rival sets of supporters and the amount of fights breaking out??That would be NONE & er, em, NONE.There will be more segregation between 150 Rotherham & 4, 000 City than 3,000 Chelsea & 10,000 Liverpool in The Champions League Semi-Final.I rest my case.
Blagdon red Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Also noticed that Anfield's now an all-seater stadium ....not!And were the stewards or police trying to make them sit down ... I don't think so!
samo Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 It was very impressive. Am always awed by the atmosphere, even on the telly.Nice to think we once went there and stunned them all into silence. Good ol' Tinman!
kiwicolin Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 red and white hatsred scarvesred bodies ( blood pressure )red lucky underpants ( no i don't have any )lets just shout the place down and show everybody we are the mini anfield.come on you reds

22A Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 In full agreement with the above posts. With the exception of the 800 Chelsea fans' area, Anfield was a sea of red. Those who didn't have shirts wore something else red instead. Not only were fans of both sides standing throughout the game, but in the second half immediately behind a steward a child was standing not on the ground, but on his seat. He appeared in no danger and it was tollerated!
thatcham red Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 The thing that struck me, as it often does when watching Pompey matches to be fair, is that the singing never lets up. They got behind their team right to the end, even when it started to get really tense.A lesson for us methinks....
Barrs Court Red Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Unfortuantly too many City fans just want to sit back and moan. Those that do try to get something going are either hassled by stewards or give up when no one joins in.Each to there own, but Liverpool fans we will never get close to imo.
Guest Cider Visor Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Every corner of every stand should be full of raised scarves and flying flags. Lets raise the roof, get the gate back the way it used to be, volume levels that have never been heard there before. We may not get close to th eLiverpool fans MLA but we sure as hell can give it a go!! After all Saturday is as big for us as last night was for Liverpool.....Season depends on it, and the fans demand it!!!E I E I E I O UP THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE WE GO!! :Believe:
Belfastcityfan Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I think that is a great idea Cider V, it's the last game of the season, we are the home team, let's make so much noise that the gas fans can hear it!!!We all love our team, win, lose or draw, we always will.Sing and be proud. Let's ban moaning to the confinements of our own living rooms. We can do it
BS3 Bemmy Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Anfield did look awesome last night and it would be amazing for ashton gate to look that way on saturday, but did'nt i notice they were waving flags on sticks, only 3 months ago my son took his flag to a game only for the steward to confiscate the stick saying that they are banned from inside the ground,so how can liverpool fans wave flags on sticks and we can not ?.
Guest Cider Visor Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Totally agree Benny, one rule for one and another for those with the money!!However, How many of you will sign up to try and help raise the levels for saturday?? Scarves, Flags (apparently without sticks!!) Add your names below; BRING BACK THE FORTRESS THAT IS ASHTON GATE!! (You are imagining the stick in the picture, look around the eyes, not into the eyes but around the eyes!!) :Believe:

NickJ Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Bristol Boy and Blagdon Red - I noticed them things too.Wonder what our jobsworths made of it.

Pompey operate a far less robust interpretation of health and safety guidelines and the home end is the home end.Their fans regularly carry bells, flags with sticks, horns, megaphones and the Pompey chief Singer Mr Westwood would have been banned years ago or condemned as a knuckle dragger as the bloke spends most of the game urging the crowd on not the fans. That culture has evolved with time. A lesson for the safety officer, Chief executive, stadium manager plus a n other here I think.

cider11 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 When i went up to Anfield early this season when Villa were there, i was stood in the away end, only times they sat down was pre match and at half time. The stewards did nothing to stop them from standing and just left them be. That day i didnt notice too many Liverpool fans that were standing even at 3-0 up.One thing i also noticed going round different prem ground with Villa is that its not just a few of the fans that stand, its all of them and then the stewards leave them be, like at charlton they knew they stood so didnt even try to sit them down. And they also always sit in there allocated seat, so don't go and sit elsewhere. If city fans all did that when away, or even at home just all stood then it makes it harder for them and so they just give up and let you. like at some of the grounds, crewe for one where like little room would of been good if everyone stood up.
Mighty Squirrel Kingdom Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Anfield was amazing last night, but we haven't got a song like either 'You'll Never Walk Alone' of 'Fields Of Anfield Road/Fields Of Athenry' which have more in common with a dirge like 'Goodnight Irene' than our cheerful and uplifting 'Drink Up Thy Cider'

The clubs encourage it and even construct special permanent platforms for the 'Vorsänger ' at the front of the terracing. He'll then spend most of the game with his back to the play, just turning around now and then to catch the action, while leading the chants and singing the rest of time - usually with a megaphone, which is also just part and parcel of German football and fully accepted by the clubs. It all makes for an excellent atmosphere.

They were facing a stand packed full of people all stood up, all ready to sing their hearts out for 90 minutes and more. It made for an unbelievable atmosphere. And they had loads of flags which they had over the front of the stand, constantly changing during the game. I'm sure the same goes on in Italy & Spain, and there's been footage of similar stuff in Japan on Soccer am.Would be amazing if we could create that sort of atmosphere in England, Anfield seems to come closest, at the end of the day it has to come from the fans cos the authorities aren't going to go out of their way to encourage it.

Kind of ironic when Mr C'MON U REDDSSS gets going at 2.59.
Flaxbourton Red Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Mr C'Monyoureds would make excellent pre-match entertainment as a human cannonball, lets fire him into the Avon Gorge.
