SimplyRed
..if the attitude of the A&S constabulary are anything to go by. Their attitude to people trying to park - particularly along and around the A370 and the slip road from Long Ashton to it - is nothing short of scandalous, pedantic bloodymindedness. All on their own, they must reduce the potential attendance by several hundred. How many people, on a wet and windy day, are going to "not bother" to attend because "parking around the ground is impossible"? And that's not even taking into the ludricrous waste of seats they demand in the ground for "segregation"! It seems to me that the police try to discourage as many people attending as possible. What chance does this club stand of attracting a sizeable following when faced with this persecution by the police? Yes, I know that within the letter of the law, they are "only doing their job", but - for heaven's sake! - it's 3 or 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon every other week! Most people I see parking around there, park sensibly and do not obstruct the traffic - why penalise them, unless it's simply for the 'easy money' it generates? By all means penalise the idiots who do park with a lack of consideration for other road users, but tell me - how can parking on a grass verge, completely off the road constitute a danger or obstruction? It beggars belief! And while I'm on the pedestal... Why is it that our so-called City Council do not allow fans to park in the Park and Ride? The last time I looked they had a sign saying 'NO FOOTBALL PARKING' and employed a bloke to stand outside and accost anyone who walked out of the P&R. So let me get this straight - they employ someone to PREVENT them getting any revenue from fans parking? Why not employ someone to collect a fee and ALLOW the fans to park? If the P&R was so full with shoppers cars that fans parking would deny shoppers then fine, but in my experience that car park is never more than half-full. They could even create a separate area and allow that to be filled with fans while maintaining the shoppers parking. It just seems to me that the City and the Police, rather than being, at best, benign to the aspirations of the club and its fans they actually bend over backwards to try to be as obstructive and as unhelpful as possible. Rant over.
Squeak
Completely agree. The parking around the ground have become completely ridiculous. A+S police seem intent on getting the world's supply of cones out towards Long Ashton. As has been said before on many football forums, the police love to mistreat football fans and screw over motorists. Every matchday at Ashton Gate they must be rubbing their hands with glee, they get the best of both worlds.
Claverham_Red
Oh, god it's a farce. Really is. We've been parking on the grass verge by David Lloyd fine for a year until the Plymouth game where cones were set up. So we parked on the road leading to the centre - no cones, no warnings. Cars have been parking there for a while. We come back to the car to see it clamped & cones were added to the road! Scandalous, is one word to describe it. The Appeal Department got a nice letter last Monday morning! Do the police not want people to support their local team? The extra support we could get could spur the lads on the pitch towards promotion. The spin-offs from this is massive - hotels, clubs etc all benefiting. Everyone wins. Oh, the police wouldn't want that though.
Guest Rowley Birkin
As we drove in yestreday they were going along slapping tickets on every car along by the Dovecote, which have been parked there for the last few games, they bloody love it the little Hitlers. I'm afraid it's yet another reflection of this ban, fine, or tax it society in which we live, as thay just can't wait to pile on as much misery for the motorist as possible, as obviously everyone should ride a bike, or use the bus. It's galling when you think, that probably the money they raised from fines like this, go towards creating more jobsworths to inflict this misery on us all. I agree the parking around Ashton Gate is crap, and I'm sure it's a massive factor in attendances.

What is particularly depressing about this thread is that it appeared the same day at yet another thread about car break ins on match days. You can't but help thinking that in an age where our government is obsessed with targets and figures that the ease in which it is to slap some parking tickets on law abiding citizens, whilst little or no effort would appear to be made to prosecute criminals who vandilise and steal from cars is cynical in the extreme. To me at least it is of little wonder that the gap between the good in this country and authority continues to grow and that common sense and the feelings of the victim are of little interest to jobs worths in these positions of responsibility. Guest MaloneFM
Going back to the ground for a minute. Still don't think it will happen. Not knowing the exact numbers, he buys the land for about £7 mill. Now does he build a stadium on it for £20-30 mill of flog the ground to Wimpeys for houses and make £90-100 mill including some clause saying he gets a cut from the sale of each house? Think Andy Cole but done properly this time. Best thing he can do with the money is buy the houses by the park, flatten them then make the Atyeo two tier. Extend the East End into the car park and use the park and ride.
old_man_terry
fairly sure City used the park and ride in the past? but it was stopped due to lack of people using it?

The Man In Black
The park and ride was excellent but the cost was prohibitive, something like £5. I think the club are going to have to explore "borrowing" car parks that aren't in use at the weekend (local business etc.) and operating park and rides. There has to be money to be made here, especially if parking is only going to get harder.
