petehinton
we are 2nd (3rd) in the championship people ! and we are sad ! if you would of said that to any city fan on the 25th of august or whenever it was they would of laughed in your face What is it ? Our Goal Difference ? Our Football? Our Strikers? the only reason i have 2 be sad is that 1 year and 2 months ago we lost to Rovers to be honest! bringbacktherobin
I think people are sad because we could be what 7 points? clear now if we won the games we should have. We have been terrible for the past few games, everyone keeps saying if we said this time last year we would be here blah blah But we had the chance to pull away and he haven't took it, now we are on the back foot again. And that is the point - we all know we WOULD have taken this postion - BUT - having got here we could be almost home and dry and for whatever reason perfomances and tactics have not been coming off and we may end up losing out in the play-offs - that is why we are down beat - in gambling terms it seems to be like picking a five horse accumalator - the first 4 win at 50 - 1 and you would be estatic and them having got into that positon the odds on favourite you picked comes third and you end of with nothing - that would make you sad We expected not even half a glass - a quarter would do - the team delivered a full glass and has done until 10 minutes before closing time and now it is draining away when we could have protected it - bound to be a bit disapointed? :coat:
Guest
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 1 win in 8 could have been 3 or 4.. but then who knows what the other teams would have been doing. To still be 1 point off the top with THREE games to go is amazing. It really is going to be any 2 from 5.. maybe we might just have a little bit stored in the tank for the last couple of games and remember we've held our bottle this time 12 months ago.. something a few around us haven't experienced. If we win next week I honestly think we'll go to nab 2nd place.

NATCHER
1 win in 8 probably. You say you've supported City "long enonugh", and it seems to me that you're upset at the the last nine games. So Darlington and Hartlepool away in the cold dark winters have been washed away with the last nine games. Aldershot, Halifax, Torquay, Exeter and the 7-1 at Northampton, that's what I've been thinking about the last few games and all you think about is the last nine games. :noexpression: :noexpression: :noexpression:

We were 1st a short while ago. if you would of said that to any city fan on the 25th of august or whenever it was they would of laughed in your face. They probably would however, it's now April 2008 and 43 games on from that.If I would have told you that planes full of Muslim Extremists would have hit the twin towers a day before it happened I would have got laughed at-That's just a pointless argument.Had we beaten Soton last week, you know the team that had won once in fourteen games-we would have been top and looking like favourites What is it ? Our Goal Difference ? Yes Our Football? Yes Our Strikers? Yes the only reason i have 2 be sad is that 1 year and 2 months ago we lost to Rovers to be honest! And that doesn't matter at all whereas the last two results (1 from 6) and 7 points from 24, does.

REDOXO
Like you said, "can't change the past". But with a little support we can shape the future !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly my thought... We have one win in eight but the past is not necessarily a guide to the future. Today we played well in many areas Brooker ran his socks off, Byfield looked dangerous at times, Mcindoe was up and down the wing constantly, Elliott showed some form that has been lacking recently, Basso looks the real deal in goal, Bradley Orr kept urging the team on, McAllister was playing well until his knock, Carey was solid, Scuse got involved when needed..... ......i could go on....Stoke are not that good and all the pressure is on them...We can win there and I will boldly state now I believe we will..... Ashcott Boy
First of all, i am ecstatic to be where we are now. Its been a great season whatever happens, whether we fail in the playoffs, win at Wembley or get automatic promotion!! We have done better than anyone would have expected pre-season. I just can't help but feel disappointed that it is no longer in our hands. We could win our last 3 games, which at this point seems unlikely, and still not finish in the top 2. Thankfully, the teams around us are also finding it hard to cross the finish line and we will all be praying that both Hull and West Brom slip up this week. If someone would have offered us our current position at the beginning of the season i would have bitten their hand off. But if we don't go up i will be slightly disappointed due to the fact that we have been in such a great position all season and the other teams seem to be gifting it to us. Anyway its off to Stoke on Saturday, where a win is a must for both teams who don't seem to like playing in front of the Sky cameras!

Thats's what scares me. I have started thinking who we should clear out at the end of the season already. Trundle tops the list, Then Byfield, (I will not go on because it could upset a few people on here) but rest asure i bet i am close to GJ's list aswell. Who says I only think about the last 9 games? The guy asked a question and I answered it. It's all a matter of perspective anyway. From a season perspective, I'm over the moon, but from a 'block of 10' perspective I'm very disappointed. In the simplest terms, I'm disappointed with our recent form. What's wrong with that? I don't think any Bristol City fan should be disappointed, and it saddens me that any do, although if you look at the last ten or so games alone, then maybe I can see why some do. SimplyRed
The reason people are disappointed is that we had back-to-back promotion there for the taking, but because of Johnson's pig-headedness in sticking with his current squad and not improving with loans or other signings in the January window to improve our strike rate, we are now paying the price. Yes, 99.9% of us would have accepted mere survival at the beginning of the season, but when you are at the threshhold of the promised land, it stings a bit when the door is slammed in your face when, for a bit of foresight, we could have been already through the door. This is our best, and probably only realistic, chance of reaching the top tier and we've bottled it because Johnson wanted to "stick with the boys who got us this far". For someone as divine as Johnson supposedly is, it's strange he hasn't learned there's no room for compassion in professional football. In reality, Johnson knows that, as a collection of individuals, we aren't good enough and that team spirit and workrate were of prime importance. THAT is why he didn't add to the squad. Now, when some guile and ability is required to go the last mile, we are finding ourselves wanting. For the sake of, perhaps, a million or 2 we now risk losing a 60 million windfall. Well it's going to have to be team spirit and work rate to get us over that line. As everyone else seems to be using their crystal balls I may as well join them in saying if we wake up next Sunday celebrating 3 points at Stoke I for one wouldn't be at all surprised, this is Football, no one ever knows for sure. I saw enough yesterday for restored faith. My next point: It was GJ's pigheadedness that rid this Club of it's years of rediculous underachievement and has completely transformed expectation in 3 years by ruffling many feathers and sticking his heels in whilst many fans watched on with doubt and critisism. You have to take the rough with the smooth. Next, spending one, two or three million guarentee's nothing - Lita and Charlton as evidence of this. The lad he really did want (Garner at Carlisle) didn't want to come and Carlisle weren't prepared to sell anyway. Finally, if we don't go up, what for the future? There is nothing in GJ's managerial track record to suggest the train will stop here, so there's reason to be positive, that's if he bothers to stick with us, I'd have pissed off by now I think. chin up mate

SOME are dissapointed because some think we play a season and then go up regardless. And some are wrong.
