samo
A lazy sunday afternoon got me thinking about what teams have the most say now in the run-in for automatic promotion. Here are the fixtures that the top 8 teams have left; Tuesday, 15 April Barnsley v Hull Wolverhampton v West Brom Saturday, 19 April Norwich v West Brom Sheff Utd v Hull Stoke v Bristol City Watford v Crystal Palace Wolverhampton v Ipswich Tuesday, 22 April Wolverhampton v Cardiff Saturday, 26 April Colchester v Stoke Coventry v Wolverhampton Hull v Crystal Palace Sheff Utd v Bristol City Watford v S****horpe Preston v Ipswich Monday, 28 April West Brom v Southampton Sunday, 04 May Blackpool v Watford Bristol City v Preston Crystal Palace v Burnley Ipswich v Hull QPR v West Brom Stoke v Leicester Wolverhampton v Plymouth Palace will have a say in who finishes top two, with trips to Watford and Hull coming up. Given they are one of the form teams this must be in our favour. Ipswich, who are still seeking the playoffs, have to visit Wolves still and host Hull on the closing day, so you'd expect them to be a stern test for the Tigers if they need a last day result. Ourselves and Hull will need to be on top of our respective games away to Sheffield United, a team in fine form. Despite their awful season pre-Blackwell I'd say this is a seriously difficult match for anyone right now. Both Watford and Stoke have games against the already relegated pair of Colchester and S****horpe, but are these sure-fire-wins or will the lack of pressure give the teams heading for league one an edge? WBA have three away games out of four left, including tough trips to Wolves, QPR and recently reinvigorated Norwich. They should be favourites in all their games, but with a record of 4 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses in their last ten league fixtures I'm still to be convinced that their undoubtedly attractive and attacking football will be enough to pull them over the line. Next weekend SIX of the top eight face each other and the only two who do not play away from home (Hull at Sheff U and WBA at Norwich). After these games I feel we will either have clear idea of the sides duelling for the top two spots or the whole playoff picture will be more wide open, including the possibility we won't be part of them. The only thing that is clear is that we will not only be able to rely on our results and if we do make it may very well be that we’ll all owe one or two other teams a serious favour… Never has the phrase ‘pray offs’ been more applicable! dezgimed
Someone on the bus yesterday said Sheff Utd are in dire form. Well 6 wins in 8 I think says they could help us next week and beat Hull.
Mr Popodopolous
Someone on the bus yesterday said Sheff Utd are in dire form. Well 6 wins in 8 I think says they could help us next week and beat Hull. Frankly they have a squad that should possibly be up there at the top end with us, alas over half a season of Bryan Robson in charge put paid to that notion.
