Mr Popodopolous
Right then, let's get this straight. 4 pts vs Watford, yet they would have a better chance than us? A win vs Stoke at home maybe a fraw or win on Saturday and they would surprise a few people, certainly no Derby say Teamtalk. Yet we, well we could suffer humiliation, unliek Watford who we play better football than and have taken 4 pts off? And at the very least even if we fail there this Saturday, we still certainly outplayed Stoke at Ashton Gate. Yet we have the worst chance of the 3? Go figure. :noexpression:
Guest BASSO
I only scanned the article but I pretty much agree. We are new to this league while the others actually have had more experience at the top end of the championship. I don't know how you can criticise for saying we have the biggest chance of humiliation, have you seen our goal difference?
herman
hard to disagree with any of the points made we would need to spend big, and be a little more accurate with our choice of signings... he's also right, that we'd be better equipped in a few years, with the new training ground enabling us to push on further and attract better players having said that, no reason not to go for it now
Mr Popodopolous
I forgot to add, I think we would definitely have to buy 5 minimum new players perhaps more.
bh red
going on what is said in the article............. Bristol City, meanwhile, could suffer humiliation should they gain promotion. The Robins have had a fantastic season but they need to establish themselves in the Championship for at least another year before launching a real promotion drive. Stoke, West Brom and Watford have all been planning for the Premier League, both on and off the pitch. Hull are almost ready but Bristol City, in my opinion, are some way off. Adriano Basso and Marvin Elliot are both excellent players but they are too few and far between in City's squad and they would need a whole new squad to survive in the Premier League. Gary Johnson is a fantastic manager and he might take them there eventually but now is too soon. I kinda agree with them.

I seem to recall us playing Middlesbrough 3 times in 2 years and not being humiliated in any of the games. Similarly, Man City didn't exactly blow us away. Granted they played a weakened team and always looked in control but next year we will have strengthened. Will they?

If we could Barnsley would make the Champions LEague if they got promoted.

If we could Barnsley would make the Champions LEague if they got promoted. I agree with that. I have never seen Ben Hutchinson on MOTD so I would argue weakened teams were put out against us in the Boro games. Also I do believe our current squad is worse than Derby's and look at them. The only complaint I would have is that I wouldn't say we are behind Hull much at all but they're pretty much spot on about us.

If we were to go up we could possibly build a team to survive. However getting promoted this season gives us the chance to build a solid foundation for the future. Add a few solid additions, more than likely get relelgated, and come back to the Championship with a solid, settled team and rakes of dough in our pockets to strengthen towards another push. That's what I would like to see. I'd be slightly worried if we did go up and then spent £40 million on players.

Any team going into the Premier league has to spend big £££s to stay there. Surely, therefore, the best way to get in is 'on the cheap'. That way you don't arrive with a huge debt, and you can spend a large chunk of the Premier cash on Premier players. There is a lengthy list of teams (Wolves spring to mind), who spent a fortune, year in, year out, mounting a string of unsuccessful promotion bids (and Wolves were promptly relegated when they finally did get there). How on earth can this be considered 'the way to do it'. As Keegan once said, I would LOVE IT if we got there. Enjoy the moment (if it happens) and worry about staying there later. Bristol Boy
Any team that's promoted, not forgetting there'll be three, will have to spend and if you look at WBA, they've got the same points as us, albeit from one less game which tomorrow night takes care of, for all their ability, passing, goals etc they got trounced in The Prem and rightfully relegated with a better team than they have now. None of the managers of the current favourites have Premier League experience so who's to say who'll do best? My expectation level based on that is that any club promoted, failing an Abramovich type character showing up, will struggle and it'll be about being organised, commited and having a bit of luck both in games & the transfer market. Some clubs have stuck it out if only for a couple of seasons (Bradford, Ipswich) and some longer (Reading, Wigan) and with a financial wizard at the helm, I'm confident we won't do a Leeds. Guest DanC
I don't care. I just want to get there and go to the likes of Man U, Liverpool etc every week.
Mr Popodopolous
Worse than Derby? I wouldn't go that far! I mean, we have a soild defence or at least did for a good while in the season, early on our strikers and midfielders were scoring and we still have Basso and Elliott. CiderEagle
Reading went up and didn't spend much money. They're now likely to survive a third season in the top flight. Shows what you can do with a brilliant manager and a superb team spirit. Just like us. And what's all this gubbins about Watford and West Brom having Prem experience ? Yeah, they've got plenty of experience ... of being relegated. The Premier League is like the old line about a lion breaking lose and chasing a group of people. You don't have to outrun the lion, you just have to outrun one of your mates. Or in the case of the Premier League, three of your mates.
