Guest LouieDane
What a depressing night! As West Brom have won tonight, have a simple (for them) home game against Southampton and two away games against teams with nothing to play for, without three 12 - 0 wins for us, they seem to have an unassailable tally of points. They're up. Hull on the other hand will almost certainly not take nine points from their three games. Sheffield United away, Palace at home and Ipswitch away will give them some of the hardest games to win. Ipswitch look unbeatable at home, Palace solid and unwavering away & Sheffield United have taken seven points out of nine. So they probably won't take more than 5 points Stoke, after us, have already relegated Colchester, who they should tear through in attack. Although it is Colchester's last game at Layer road, so maybe they will be motivated to get a result, making that anything but an easy three points. After that they have Leicester at home, who could be playing for their lives in the division and are a good team (as proven by a goal difference of -2 and their 4-1 win against WBA). So do not assume that Stoke will take six points from these games. Even if we do not win on Saturday we could still overtake them. Watford: Bad form, a maximum total of 76, and a game against in form palace. Not going to happen, though I thought it was polite to mention them. Our fixtures: we will need at least 7 points, and that's if we're very lucky. We will probably need 9 points, which is not impossible, but does look unlikely in our current vein of form. If we assume that we win our final game against Preston, which will be necessary, then we could still do with 4 points from Sheffield and Stoke. We have the perfect tools to shut out Stoke, with McCombe nullifying the throws and long balls, a team who prevent shots from distance and Carey and Elliot quick to the second ball. Then if Sheffield haven't got a chance when we play them (if palace and wolves win difficult games on Saturday) it could be possible for us to sneak a result without playing to well, which is about our only chance. We can definitely still take second spot. Don't lose hope! We will be in this on the final day! so light up your candles, say a prayer, and keep believing!! robins72
At the end of the day its what WE do now that matters. We cant rely on other teams to slip up for us to achieve our goal of promotion. 3 matches to go and 9 points to play for. Will still be twists and turns until May 4th. I can see West Brom winning the title though but 2nd place is achievable.

Guest CARLE08
as you say others don't have anything to play for. however they wont be told to hold back and they might even wanna stop westbrom getting promoted hull will slip up cant see them winning there last 3 there for hard with teams fighting for that last playoff spot
Mad Cyril
Win all three and anything (all positive) can happen. But put another way, it would get us the 4 points we need to secure a definite playoff berth. I feel we will have plenty still to play for against Preston. I just hope it is for the first reason, not the second.

Guest BB in Backwell
If we keep HOOFING the Ball in the air like the last few Games, the most we can expect to achieve is a couple more points to guarantee reaching the play-offs. Sorry to be negative but flew back to watch the WOLVES Game & I thought we had gone backwards in our play-making. Saw nothing to excite me except a bird in the Pub afterwards. herman
bit of a lie that teams have "nothing to play for" you will still find players approaching the end of their contracts, either putting themselves in the shop window, or trying to earn a new deal at their current clubs as for us winning all 3 games, well, it's possible - but scoring a goal and getting the ball back down on the carpet would be my first aims, then push on from there

And that was one of our better performances in recent weeks! I agree that we have to start winning, interesting that the reserves WON 9-1 last night with Murray, Trundle and Enoch all scoring hattricks, lets hope they all get a chance to take that confidence into the 1st team. Personally I think it'll be playoffs now, but anything can happen and we do need to get some sort of form going either way if we are going to go up this season. CHIPLEY RED
Sorry i cannot agree that WBA have gone away from us. They are only 3 points in front, they blow hot and cold and are just as likely to lose to Southampton, who are still in a relegation fight, as win 4 or 5 nil. I cannot see Hull picking up 9 points from their games and their last game away to Ipswich will be very difficult. It is true that mathmatically winning our last 3 games will not garantee promotion but i still think any team in the top 5 who can win all 3 remaining games will go up automatically. Stay positive a win on Saturday will put us right in the mix again. Promotion for the top 5 will go down to the last game and Preston at home is certainly winnable
tin
It shows how far we've come - doom and gloom all round because we may be looking at play-offs rather than auto! That ain't surprising though when a chance for Premier League football at the Gate for the first time in 30-odd years has been literally on a plate. We've been in the top two for the vast majority of 2008 and to see us descend into the style of football and results we've been getting is truely depressing IMHO. God knows when a chance like this will come around again. That's why automatic promotion has gone folks. Relax before the tension of the play-off's kicks in. It's amazing how much better you'll all sleep! Unless a miraculous haul of 9pts from our last three games is acheived, then the top two chance has passed us by for this year. Last night's results confirmed that the Stoke game will be nothing more than a jostle for positions in the play-off's, bit like that bore draw with Brighton in the league in 03/04 before seeing them in the final. The way Hull played last night and from what I saw of WBA, those two are odds on favourites now so all that's left for us, if we're to salvage something from this season, is to play ourselves into some sort of form that could help us in the play-off's. Hull are in fantastic form. Both are above us and we have played directionless, toothless football for two months. We've barely posted points on the board. I can't see results changing for us in the next three games, so it looks like the play-offs to me.

You are probably right and our form needs to show a dramatic change for us to win the last 3. However, WBA in great form does that include the Leicester and Watford games. As i said when there good they are the best in the league but they also have a lot of off days thats why they are only 3 points in front of us. Hull have been on a great run and if they keep going they will be promoted but would you bet a aginst Palace and Ipswich not taking points off them. I will keep believing until its mathmatically impossible because this league is so unpredictable.

(Norwich) So don't give up hope; I have faith that we will beat Stoke on Saturday when/if we brake the shackles of our adopted "a point will do" attitude. After that we could be back into the top two already, so it really only needs a lucky goal or a penalty for us to be favourites again.

Sadly I think you are right. Heart says we can still do it (always believe!), but head says it's the playoffs. I hope we do find some sort of form as we almost had it on a plate and then, as happened with all the other teams, maybe lost it. But the playoffs are such a lottery aren't they I don't know which Bristol City will turn up? The attacking confident side who believe they can go up as they have been there or there abouts all season, or the confidence drained team that are gutted to miss out on an auto place. Doesn't the playoffs tend to favour the team s who just nick 6th place at the death? As someone else said other clubs have players wanting to play for a new contract or look for a move elsewhere, which should motivate them? But surely we have players in that situation too? Last year the players sang 'Marbella on the Chairman', hopefully he is offering incentives again!
