at least we had a team who ATACKED ATTACKED ATTACKED and gave their all!!!!

Were in the play off,s fellow,s, a win next sat will give us a 3rd or 4th place which gives home advantage for the 2nd leg.

Thats very very important, and Johnson will know that.

Definitely....absolutely gutted that we seemed to play so much better but didn't get the reward.

Maybe this is the turning point that gets us into the Prem eh?!

Just had a phone call from mate walking back after the game.

TRUNDLE and CARLE were magnif, and we were all over them. Cuty fans were superg to, so all of a sudden the playoffs don't look so daunting and we CAN beat any of these fekers.

We has a shite time in all previous playoffs, and now its our time!!!!

Come on my babbers, you can do it!!!!!!! :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

A couple of refereeing decisions lost us that game.

We played so well, it feels like a victory.

I think now you know we cant go up automatic and have secured the playoff place, its a sense of relief to us all. We can enjoy next sunday and applaude the lads for a fab season...Arn

Look at this from an early write-up:

The Robins thought they had drawn level just after the hour but McIndoe was ruled offside after he glanced Trundle's cross past Paddy Kenny.

The pressure from City was relentless and Carle tested Kenny with a stinging drive from the edge of the area which the goalkeeper did well to palm away.

Kenny had to be at his best to deny Carle again with eight minutes remaining as he flew to his left to keep out the Australian's header.

There was no let-up from City and Trundle was the next to come close as his deflected shot skipped just past Kenny's post.

Johnson's side continued to press in the dying stages but they were unable to find a way past a stubborn Blades rearguard.

City 9 shots on target and 6 off target, a tremendous effort.

Compare with Watford, 0 shots on target, 2 off!

I am afraid the Blackthorn has clouded your brain Arn, we can only finish 4th, 5th or 6th unless the FL are offering us 4 pts for a win.

I don't think it really matters where we finish as long as we start playing well again. Don't forget we beat Cardiff twice in the league and still lost in the play offs.

They've done us proud this season. A win next week would put us in 4th place and really set us up for a real all out assault on the playoffs. Onwards and upwards!! Up the reds.

Bad news. Carl could be unavailable for the play-offs. Might be called up by the Auz.

Its unlikely the international side will press a claim for Carle as the Ghana game 23 May is a friendly and the 1st WC qualifier is June 1. But keep your fingers crossed....

From the colonies today it sounded like Carle and Trundle really played well individually and together and this is could be a massive factor going into the Play Off's...

It's funny but I have a really good feeling about our chances in the next few weeks Just Keep the Faith Boys

i've just got back from the game and i'll tell you what if we play like that in the play-offs we will have no problem at all, well and truely outplayed sheff utd. every single one of our players were outstanding carle was MOTM for me, although very hard to choose.

thing that worries me slightly is our luck has well and truely vanished the ball would never fall just right for anyone

Just got back from the lane, can't say I've often come away from a ground after a loss feeling postive but what I saw in terms of performance from City was great and I only wish we'd played like this in the last few games as I'm sure we'd have picked up a few more points and a bit of confidence.

That aside with results going ok for us today we have secured a play off spot which if you had offered me at the start of the season I would have laughed in histerics at the thought of doing so well. I think we have stumbled across a good formation today not least the front combo of Trundle & Adebola who were both excellent.

I thought we played really good passing football today and that was the major difference from recent weeks. Carle in the middle was absolutely fantastic and on that performance we need to be building a side for next season around him because alongside Elliot they bossed the park and we dominated possession for long periods.

Obviously being at the other end I can't comment on either penalty but listening to Blackwell he said he had no complaints so I trust his judgement! I won't discredit United in this reply becuase they did well to come back from a goal down and take the lead. I think we probably could have just stolen a point and it wouldn't have been undeserved. Would like to see the offside goal too because I'm not sure McIndoe got a touch. You could probably argue that he was interfering anyway if he didn't.

So end of the day, we lost.. but so much more positives in recent weeks and if we play like that in the next game and we might just take some heart before the play offs.

Must say a word for the Sheffield United fans.. always friendly just like last time I visited (nearly 10 years ago now when we were relegated) - really friendly atmosphere in the Bridge Inn and also walking out had a good few convos with fans.

Oh and it was sad that some people decided to round on Cotterill, what did the guy ever do wrong? We got a fortune for him too...

Just got back home and totally agree with TomF, we were excellent today especially Trunds!

On the walk back to the car I got talking with a blades fan who couldn't say enough good things about City (easy when you have just won I suppose). He actually said that we were the best side he had seen at BL all season!

keep the faith everyone, City were back to their old selves today. Even Nobes played really well. I wouldn't fancy playing us in the ply offs after todays performance.

Trundle ran his bloody socks off today, and I am massively proud of the whole team today. We worked well as a unit, and it really doesnt feel like we lost, we were just robbed by refereeing decisions, and played fantastically.

I really have hope after today.

Well done to all of the fans and the team as well.

Great day out!

I agree Tom, we played very well today and we certainly didn't deserve to come away with no points. Chatting to a Sheff Utd fan on the train and he thought we we were the best team they have seen down the lane. Fair play to all our fans, we never stopped singing, unlike the Utd fans who only sung when they heard about other results.

Shame about the booing of Cotts though, he didn't deserve that I think some fans forgot about the £2 million we got for him!!!! that was a downside today, along with getting beat. But I've come home feeling hopefull.

I still believe - you reds!!!!!! :chant6ez:

Actually believe we're good again and Carle has to be a shoe-in for the central midfield playmaker spot. Can't remember a misplaced pass, some silky skills and the number of times he was surrounded by three players and broke away with the ball defies belief. His all energy game benefited Noble who looked much better as he was allowed a little more time on the ball but realistically we looked good simply because we put all our flair players in the starting eleven.

Carle, McIndoe, Noble, Trundle and to an extent Elliott all have touch and vision and allowed us to control the entire game. Best spectacle for ages and came away buzzing and proud to be a City fan again.

I can't agree more with you posters! A lot of pride restored today and great support. The players looked down at the end but I like to think we lifted them especially with the que sera sera ... whatever will be will be, we're going to Wemberlee.

I think GJ may have re-found the formula and I just hope we can maintain that standard and get a goal or three next week . . . something our play deserved today. Then we will have the momentum going into the semi-finals.

It's hard to see how City will score from open play, they didn't look like it today, nor last week at Stoke.... nor in a good few other games too. Trundle did impress me, but he didn't get much support from his strike partner.

I listened to the game and I have to say it did sound like an excellent performance all round, how the hell did we not win?

The commentators did suggest that the marking for Gary Speed's equaliser was not the best, the penalty may or may not have been harsh and they said the offside was very close, anyone know more on the latter two issues?

Anyway, bring on the playoffs, just hope we don't have to play Sheffield United again!

After todays game I'd be happy to play Sheff Utd again. We played them off the park and ME and NC bossed the midfield. There is no way we should of been beaten today and if we play like that in the play offs then we'll be fine. I do however wanna see the Sheff utd pen again as it looked a bit dodgy, MM was furious with the decision, and so was 3K city fans

I was so impressed and proud of the whole team today, they looked totally and utterly different from the team that played against Stoke, hard to believe they are the same players.

The support was fantastic and the players responded, kept the ball down and simply outclassed what was a very recent Premier League club. We deserved a win and nearly got a draw, only for some decisions that weren't always obvious.

This is the Bristol City that we know and love, not the one who have found to be missing for the past few weeks. Hopefully now Preston are safe, and we know we have secured a place in the playoffs, we can 'relax' a bit and continue to play like this. What a time to be finding a bit of form eh?

The only other 'winning' loosing game I can think of was the Everton Cup game a couple of years ago, felt like a win even though we lost. Thank you, I've had a great day!!!

The problem is we lost and defensive lapses cost us what with the Speed goal as the defensive lapse for the 1st goal at Stoke and arguably the 2nd goal did, cut these out and yeah we'd have won today and drawn at Stoke, but it was a great performance generally.

After leaving Stoke last week wondering what the hell happened to the team who showed fight and never gave up had gone, I finally saw signs of improvement today. It was the sheer effort that was made and the disappointment that the players hadnt achieved some sort of result today that made me see that the players are putting up a real fight. They must know now that they have so much to play for not just in terms of promotion but pride of wearing their red and white shirt. I actually walked away from the ground smiling today and with some positivity for the players who ran their socks off today and the fans reacted to this. Well done all. Thanks to the Sheffield Utd fans that were very friendly in the pub we stopped at near the ground. Makes away days so much more enjoyable :)

can pretty much confirm from Oz that Carle will not be called up for the Ghana match if City do make the final of play offs - the same is for Richard Garcia of Hull who has recently come into Pim Verbeek's radar for WC qualifier squad selection - Garcia is just coming back off a slight injury but if he's back in the Hull starting line up for play offs will be a big threat to others inc City if we make the final

Nick playing well for City inc helping to secure promotion is another big incentive to get back into reckoning for WC squad selection - we have a very good national team but lack a class playmaker with true creative brilliance and think Nick fits that bill

a home win next weekend should get City back in winning ways and confidence to succeed in the play offs - I've got a feeling that we'll be there at Wembley to give it a shake!

Must say fellas that is the most upbeat I have been after a defeat in a long time.

We played great stuff, knocked the ball around, had forwards looking for the ball and to create something.

On another day we would have won that.

Play like that for the play off semi finals and we're every chance of being in the final.

Today was a prime example of what I have asked for from this team. To go out there play the ball in our own natural way, be positive and give the opposition something to think about.

If we don't win, then we don't win. But if they've given everything and give it a bloody good go, then I ask for no more from them!

Good points Hicksy. Love that comment "IF WE don't WIN, WE don't WIN". That is exactly how i and hopefully many others feel.

Sheff utd fans are praising us to the hilt on their forums

Bristol City, quality outfit, with superb support.

I just cant wait for next sunday. And i really feel we can do it through the playoffs :fingerscrossed:

Sure is a great season mate and I don't think anyone can not be surprised at how well we've done.

The way I view this season is totally different to last season.

Last year I, like everyone else, was sick of being in that hellhole league and going to schitholes and falling down stands. God knows how many times I've been to Brentford now.

For me last season was all about getting out of that league, however we could. It was results first, everything else second.

This season, everything is a bonus, I have enjoyed all the places we've been to and most importantly the football we've played.

I want us to go out there on sunday and then in the play offs playing the football we know we can and not being afraid to have a go at them.

As I've said before out of the play off lot, only Palace have beaten us.

Another good point. We can now see how s h i t e lower league football was and s h i t e grounds as well.

Even if we got to have another season of championship football, so be it. Its a bloody class league to be in, tremendous stadiums and big suppport. We take it for granted now, when nie on 20,000 are at the Gate.

Your the same as me. Ive been down on a wet tues night v Notts County with 3900 in the ground, no atmosphere and rubbish football.

We have been spoilt, and really should love every moment of what we have at this moment in time.

Long may it reign, its class!!!!!!

If we play like we did yesterday, we won't have a problem in the play-off's. First time this season we've lost and I've come out of the ground feeling like we'd won. Absolutely superb performance from the boys and with a bit of luck we'll get Watford over two legs and book a place to Wembley.

I ain't saying anything mate! We just need a bit of luck with the draw. We know we can beat anybody, West Brom asides, on their day in this league so we just need to get to Wembley.

Was speaking with a Derby mate of mine in the boozer on Friday and he was saying we've mirrored what they did last season. They were top then fell away bang out of form and skanked up in the final. It's made for Trunds surely...
