Home 1st Leg

Recommended Posts

is it just me that would rather be at home for the first leg of the play-off's?

playing the second leg at home is great if you get the right result away from home. but i would rather be in the position where we can try and build a couple of goals advantage to take to an away game.

therefore i would be happy for us to finish 5th and take watford in the play-off's, then stoke in the final

I think we, the fans, have got a big part to play in how much advantage there is in being at home (either leg - but especially second leg). For the home play-off game, even though its not normally our thing - we need to support the team from the start regardless of how they are playing - if we start quiet, or go quiet this is likely to picked up on by the team, and will only add to the pressure that they are going to be feeling anyway.

We want the lads feeling confident in trying things (some of which wont come off), and wanting the ball - neither of which they will do if they expect to get a chorus of groans if it doesn't work. The back four will be particularly nervous - and probably need our support the most.

Likely to be down to the EE to make sure this happens - so come on EE's - lets be having it! :yahoo:

Play the away leg on a weekend, take a draw or a single goal defeat back to AG for a midweek game, where i fancy our chances of beating anyone. Remember the Hartlepool game, still love watching that back.

Spot on!

That clip of Goodfellow followed by Roberts in the last minute still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up - absolutely fantastic night and the first time I really felt the Dolman "wobble".

If we can replicate something like that then I would be more than happy - although better result in the final would be good!

From a purely selfish point of view, knowing that we will make it to wembley, I want us to be home 2nd leg, pitch invasion and all that, really makes for a nice evening of football.

Then again, from a mental point of view, surely it has to be better to try and defend a lead from home in the 2nd leg, you can play defensive football; look for the right result.

Then again if you manage to sneak a 1-0 win away from home, then come back to ashton gate for the return leg; now that would be a lovely situation to be in.

We were away first leg against cardiff in 03, thorne scored at their place then they played out a 0-0 at ours (that was painful). Still after hartlepool i'd rather be at home 2nd leg.

Nice trip up the m4 in a couple of weeks followed by another big night down the gate!

I think we beat SUFC at home when the playoffs first started and both games were over 2 legs with SUFC being in the Div above

Yes, you're right but we were home first then.

All in all, I don't think the home/away question comes into it.

I want us to be home first, on the Sunday so I can go see it, and away to either Watford or Palace on the Wednesday cos I'm working in London atm and I'm out on the Tuesday and the Thursday. Hmm - Vampire Weekend, City getting to Wembley and Ladytron. Probably the best midweek's run of nights out in the world !
