Why Is Ashton Gate So Dead?

Apart from the nosiy lot in he East End the atmosphere was pretty dead again saturday. What does it take for the old farts in the Williams to start making some noise. Preston showed us how to support your team, even when 3 nil down. A few loud cheers after the goals but not much from other parts of the ground as usual. It's hardly a cauldron of noise like other places is it.... Sing up for gods sake!!!!

Behave! While I would be the first one to support a bit more noise for the team, Ashton Gate has been awesome this season. Only a couple of years after us being outsung week in week out we've been brilliant this year.

I can't remember a game where the away fans have made more noise. In contrast I can think of many where City fans, despite being outnumbered, have created more noise away from home.

You might think it sounds quiet! But its what the players here not you! GJ has mentioned loads of times that opposition managers have complimented the atmosphere in the gate! Pulis mmentioned it before the stoke game! Phill Brown clapped all 4 stands after the hull game because of the noise we created! I don't think we can be considered quite!!

You need to transfer to the East End! It's been awesome in there (most of) this season and (some games) reminds me of the 70's when the whole end was CITY & nobody could out-sing us. The only problem this season has been the overflow which sits and doesn't sing. Next season with 1000 season ticket holders and most wanting to join in with the great atmosphere and sing their hearts out for the lads, will be even better - wherever we are! Come on you mighty REDS!!!

Coincidentally, we started to pick up a bit of a reputation among visiting supporters for being quiet at precisely the time when away fans were moved to the East End in the mid 90's. No shit Sherlock. The reason?: the tunnel-like acoustics in the East End make it impossible to hear the rest of the ground, however loud it might be. All longstanding City fans and East Enders know this.

After his first visit to the Gate some years ago a friend of mine, a Bournemouth fan based in Bristol, told me after the match how deafening the AFCB fans in the East End had been, and how he couldn't understand why the City fans had made no noise and didn't sing at all. The next day he watched the highlights on the West Match (remember that?) and was astonished that all he could hear throughout the match coverage was the City fans in the home stands singing loud & clear.

So there ya go. 14 years of acoustic injustice at the Gate.

Those old farts in the Williams?? Do you mean those people who supported the club for generations before you were born? Who travelled the length of the country when it wasn't as easy as it is now? The ones who have already put more of their lives into the club than you've lived..... oh right those old farts! Show some respect young 'un!!!! :innocent06:

Sitting in the Atyeo, I thought it was pretty reasonable at times, certainly at the start, towards the end and then during the "lap of appreciation".

We have a go in E block and a few join in elsewhere, particularly in H block.

There was a good rendition of cheer up Holloway when Leicester's relegation was confirmed by Dave L. :innocent06:

Did you go to Preston earlier this season? Thought we had a party like atmosphere Saturday with everybody having a laugh and enjoying themselves. Tuesday night will be a totally different affair altogether.

Like where for example? Ive been to many away games this season and can't really think for any that were a 'cauldron of noise' I think the atmosphere has been generally very good this season down the Gate and no worse than any where else, I don't really see the problem.

Stoke were very load at times, at the start of the game when they sang Delilah they were deafening, pity they couldnt keep it up for their sake, having said that i watched the game on sky plus sunday night and you could hear us most of the game, especially the humming bit of the Bounce around teh ground song.

Sheff Utd wasnt a bad atmosphere from them, the fact we had to sit down made it impossible for most to really make much noise

Sunday was a strnge atmoshpere that mirrored a strange if pretty meaningless game. No tension, not much passion on the field and in the second half Preston looked like they just wanted to get off on holiday. We were comfortable and they had nothing to play for.

To get a good atmosphere there has to be real meaning to the game and the players have to give the crowd something to cheer about. The playoffs will be different at the start and if the team perform as we know they can then the atmosphere will be great.

At Stoke the sound when they went ahead was immense but in the second half when we started to play they went quiet and we got right behind the team. Thats how it goes the team feed off the crowd and the crowd feed off the team if that makes sense.

I actually enjoyed the atmosphere on Sunday it was friendly and made a change from the tense atmosphere that we have had at times this season.

It was nice to sit back and enjoy the game and there were some funny chants to "One Matty Hill" Etc.

Of course next week it will be back to normal.

I think the problem was opening the East End in the first place

Just so you know my stance, I love the East End.

There used to be pockets of fans all over the ground that used to sing, the Dolman Block B brigade, the band in the Ateyo etc, but since the East End opened up, they all moved into there, so most of the people who like to have a sing-song, are all in one place, you tend to have a few people try to start a song in other area's now, but it's not the same as it was, now the East End is not a total wall of noise and it's great, mainly because it does drown out the rest of the away fans, so it's serving it's purpose, it's just a shame that we can't have the cake and eat it, and still have those pockets of fans starting the songs in other area's of the ground.

The atmosphere was fine on sunday. Where were you sat?

I got bought tickets for the Williams (not my ideal choice of seating, but they were a present) Sunday's atmosphere was good, but I'm just saying I think that I've heard better in the past, that's all

The atmosphere has been great this season most of the time, I would say that night matches or indeed the 5pm ko vs Sheffield United were noisier than most Saturday 3pm home games.

Also, Plymouth fans reckoned our home end was the noisiest on a site I read and Alan Pardew said after Charlton's last gasp win there in November complimented us out the atmosphere we generated.

Sundays game was not a true reflection on the season there was very little ridding of it PRESTON were going through the motions and we knew we were in the play offs.

The players were given a good reception at the end even Hill got a big ovation at the end why i will never know, so its horses for courses I expected Tuesday nights game will be a different ball game providing we are still in it the crowd will be up for it.

I really think the crowd has given the team a lot of vocal support this season and I think its a better atmosphere when its not contrived but spontaneous

Tuesday was fab. I sit in the Premier seats in Williams. Everyone was singing and to be honest they do make a lot of noise in any game. Think we do get outsung by Dolman and the noise from Eastend is awesome. Ateyo makes a racket also.

Did have to laugh when heard the chant "Johnson says Warnock is a ***t" My mum asked me what was being said, and when I sang it back to her, she sang along too. Classic moment that. Still got no voice though!

From my couch here in the States the atmosphere seemed just fine. While watching the home leg on Setanta I actually remarked to my wife how much better the atmosphere was at Ashton Gate than at some "bigger" clubs. There was a definite energy in the stands that came across even on television half a world away.

From my couch in Australia the atmosphere seemed equally impressive. We get live coverage one championships game a week, and atmosphere at almost of the grounds during the closing stages of the season has impressed many of the locals.

From a far it looks as if the fans at many clubs are at last, finally starting to say that enough is enough and are putting the effort back in. As shit as the Tiffo is a at Palace, at least they're trying something...
