Willem Ii/ City Scarves ?...how To Buy Them ?

With the growing friendship with Willem -'surely it would be a good idea for City to have a small display /sell some Willem II scarves and bits in our shop .

Done in reciprocal arrangement with Willem , still profit to be made and good for supporters who'd like one

I think the fans who have started and grown this friendship have done a really good job and as long as the links move on without any negative publicity I would hope the club pick up the 'vibe' and consider playing their part in this friendship.

As others are promoting , a pre season game would be a simple / good start ;)

This forum is deluded when it comes to Willem II.

The majority of our fans don't care who Willem II are.  Many won't have even heard of them.  A handful of supporters have this weird bond but not enough to merit ideas like a friendly to appease the small minority (yes it is a small minority) or city selling Willem stuff in the shop.

what makes it even funnier is that the type of supporters who go across to Willem would be the exact type who won't want the club involved in it at all, let alone to sell and make profit out of it.

This forum is deluded when it comes to Willem II .. Or now catching onto something that every season is gaining momentum.

The majority of our fans don't care who Willem II are .. Which can also be applied to teams City have played in Lativia / Portugal. But a section of fans DO.

Many won't have even heard of them .. City fans are better educated than that and many will recall former Tricolures players like Hyypia, Overmars, and Stam.

Handful of supporters have this weird bond but not enough to merit ideas like a friendly .. Its now several hundred. Define merit? More City fans went to Willem II v FC Twente than have accompanied City on tours abroad.

What makes it even funnier is that the type of supporters who go across to Willem would be the exact type who won't want the club involved in it at all ... Do you know who goes? On the last trip there were fans in their sixties and seventies, businessmen, the types City will be selling their corporate facilities to. They visited the stadium, looked at how a foreign club does things. They see the benefit, and that remember that little word FUN.

Now what about these scarves?

JM91 has spoken. Probably best to lock this thread now.

When I signed the petition for a pre season game v Willem II over 1500 others had signed, I would say that is more than a handful. Watching Willem II on tv it is noticeable the number of City flags, good on them.

The last group visiting Willem II looked like the senior troop coming over. No offence intended btw. ;-) But I guess they will be offended after reading your post JM91...

We were very happy to meet them and giving them our hospitality!!! And JM91 if you don't want them (as sponsors) at BCFC we are very happy to wellcome them as sponsors in Tilburg!!!! We will give ALL City supporters who come to Willem II our best hospitality! And you can ask around for their experiences...

On the scarves topic: I guess there will be sold some more on Flag day but I am not 100% sure. I understood there were still some scarves left unsold after the Wembley trip.

Do you angrily wag your finger at Willem II flags in the ground and local pubs?

Bloke was asking about scarves but anyway. Regarding friendlies the majority who have gone abroad watching City will certainly know who Willem II because many have done both. City friendlies abroad have been very poorly attended. so how can that be improved well by playing a top level Dutch side called Wilem II.

Why is it weird?

Do you not mean different?

There are young kids who are proud owners of Bristol City / Willem II scarves etc.

Would you prefer it if these kids wore Chelsea or Manchester United shirts and scarves like a great many do in Bristol?

Well it's obvious who's in the minority on this thread. Begins with a "J".

Most fans to a greater or lesser degree like that we have some kind of link-up (for whatever reason) with a similar-sized European club; it adds a bit of interest.

For the adults and kids involved its has significance thinking "I'm part of that" interest and fun.

JM91 has been lurking on the thread so it looks like he won't be answering ??'s and points, or coming back with what he is involved in that is of such consequence. That may of been of interest.

I haven't been involved in the Willem II thing directly and unlikely to be able to travel to Willem etc but

I think it's a great thing and good on those that have been fostering the friendship on both sides of the water

Although no direct involvement I have become a Willem II follower and watch for their games and highlights , and health and circumstances allowing would love to visit Tillburg sometime in the future

I really can't see a single negative aspect at this point

I followed England around the World for 25 years and made lifelong friends from various clubs and countries - they are some of the best friends I had / have and meeting supporters from other clubs and countries was one of the best parts of following England

jeeeeeez there's enough negative publicity about supporters ........ I think most City fans , however deep their personal involvement ,see this as a good thing JM

You want to get out more

I'm afraid it is you that is deluded

Did someone do a wee wee on your cornflakes this morning?

If it's not your thing, then fair shout. Don't see the need to comment (a load of shite, it has to be said) on something that you're obviously not involved with (nor am I), and then slander the lads that are

You sound like a bit of a **** to be honest. Bigger things to worry about in life, not a few lads having some fun, a few beers and bonding over football

Give my regards to your Dad tonight (I'm presuming you're RedEye's son / daughter)

Don't comment on it then.

Plus, utter bollocks by the way.

No offence meant, it's a great friendship, forged with very little support from the club.

ADA.

Gone well beyond a few lads now. recent coach trip the average age would have been 50+. its what going to football is all about really. maybe **** doesnt get it but a friendly over there attended by what will be hundreds of City fans wont have any impact on him but it would on those who went. If a club like City isnt there to play football for its fans why does it exist?

Great stuff, I saw some photos from the trip over there recently, 'few' didn't do it justice

I'm all for making links with clubs abroad, great to see and even better to see the numbers are growing. Need to get on a trip over there at some point
