22A
Bristol City Women kept their hopes of a place in the Continental Tyres Cup quarter-finals alive as their 3-0 win over Brighton moved them into second place in Group Two South, on goals difference. The Vixens will have to wait until leaders Chelsea host Tottenham on Wednesday before finding out who progresses to the knock-out stages. The Vixens had to win by two clear goals to have a chance of progressing initially. Bristol City (3-5-2); Leach; Biesmans (Palmer 88), Kerkdijk, Matthews (Brown 88); Allen, Arthur, Turner, Daniels, Humphrey (Dykes 68); Hemp, Fergusson. Hmm; Matthews, Brown & Turner; those names ring a bell with City fans. Come to that, so does the surname Daniels.

Erithacus
Better performance from the Vixens I hear, although in fairness the run for the cup was badly damaged in the earlier games (especially the Spurs match). However, if the from book is kept then Chelsea will dent Spurs' hopes and allow City through into the knock-out stage. One thing that did cross my mind was how many would attend. Given that some will have been at the Gate at the same time it is notable that over 200 were there. Granted, when the fixture was announced it was not known that the men's game would be delayed for Sky, but there is a little disappointment that both teams play on the same day. havanatopia
Well done but how are they doing in the league? All i have seen is a win over Yeovil and then lashings of thrashings.
Erithacus
Currently third from bottom and above Yeovil and Everton; level with Birmingham on points but with worse GD. I think the gaffer had already intoned that WSL1 divides in two groups: the rich teams at the top (like the Premiership) and the rest below them. Important games coming up might have a real bearing on the season - Birmingham (A) 10 Dec; Everton (H) 6 Jan. Need to make a statement in these games going into the New Year. On top of that, the WSL is going to impose some new constraints for the next season: every team will have to reapply for their licence and increase the level of commitment to women's football to name a couple of items. City are in good position to fulfil those requirements, although teams like Yeovil are not. The 2018-19 season could look rather different.
