  1. I know we ought to be taking the piss on this thread, but I actually think that ‘could’ be a very good appointment. People look at Tisdale’s record but don’t look at the limitations under which he was working. At Exeter, there was a specific requirement to keep the club sustainable through the sale of their best young players. It’s a brave manager who plays 16 and 17 year olds, regularly, in the knowledge that by exposing them to first team experience, as well as ‘shop-windowing’ them, is in the best interests of the club versus ‘getting a result’. Playing the likes of Grimes, Watkins, Ampadu etc over the years, and having little budget to buy players of relevant experience and quality to complement them, was a tricky balance, but one which was necessary for the club to survive. People will argue that the academy at Exeter was all Perryman’s work, but you have to have a 1st team manager who buys into it and gives the players the exposure. Sticking 16 year old into your team, no matter how talented they are, is always going to mean a mixed set of results. So, there’s 2 things that the blue few need to get into their skulls re Tis. 1) He’s not a shouter, a ranter and raver, and he won’t give them any ‘anti-city’ sound bites and sing ‘Irene’ down Glos Road. He doesn’t necessarily fit the personality that the gas fans seem to take to their hearts. If they can handle a non-partisan thinker, then they’ll reap the rewards. 2) He will have a long term plan. He’s not a short term manager. This means he may not get instant results but he’ll be doing what he thinks is right for the future sustainability of the club. He’ll give youth players a chance, knowing they can potentially be an ‘asset’ for the club. He’ll want the right culture, etc. It’s actually a bit of a SOD comparison when he was here. There’s lots of important stuff being done behind the scenes to get the club in a good position for the future, but there’s little budget and results might not be great initially. If the fewers give Tis time, I think he’ll do well. Problem is, on both counts above, it’s not the Rovers fans ‘dna’ to be patient, particularly with a bloke who won’t get involved in their partisan ‘we’re the best supporters in the world and **** city’ attitude.

  2. It must cut deep for any professional football man to realise his career has come to this .

  3. Yep. I’ve posted this many times before but it’s good to have a little reminder once a while. Back in January 2016 when we were looking a bit of a basket case (still nowhere near their level) and this below was the first page of their main forum... ******* state of them, just imagine if we ever got relegated to Non-League by a team wearing our kit? ? Still, never mind, roll up, roll up let’s have the next belter to ask the same boring question about this thread...

  7. I expect the deluded few thought Tisdale might get him in as his assistant. Another broken dream.

  8. He would never have gone there......

  9. Actually I can think of Smash and Grab from the 70's. Very entertaining (well the haircuts were) They reminded me of Cannon and Ball only without the laughter.

  10. Definitely excited by this, it's clearly a massive improvement for the Sags and a sign they've really turned a corner. What..... Tisdale as their manager? Nope, the fact they've finally managed to take a picture of a new arrival at the club without the Poundland patio furniture in the background.

  11. Tisdale is not a universally popular appointment with the fanbase, with some raising concerns over his record in League One – getting sacked by MK Dons early last season and suffering relegation with Exeter in 2012 ButRovers believe he fits the club's strategy to develop players from within, and Tisdale had a fine record of pushing prospects through the EFL at Exeter. Read between the lines , it’s all there.

  12. Sinckler, Earl, Malins and Sheedy are on international duty. The rest are injured whilst Radrada has Covid (although even if he didn't he'd have been with Fiji).

  13. This is true - His pass to Korey for the winner against Manchester United was sublime - Just a pity for them their most entertaining player of the last 20 years had his finest moment for us.

  14. Interesting to see Birmingham Vs Leicester was postponed last night as one of the Birmingham players had tested for covid Makes even more of a mockery of being made to play against Man City

  15. Not as strange as singing about your rivals non stop for 90 minutes when your own team are playing in front of you.

  16. Does anyone else not think it’s a bit strange we have a thread 2260 pages long about our rivals ? Surely if there’s only one team in Bristol we shouldn’t be talking about them?

  17. As there is a chance Bristol could be in the new level 3 from December I would think it unlikely city will be allowed to have fans back, I would guess most of the league teams who play in cities would find they are in an area where fans are still banned,

  22. Well I have to say I was highly entertained by their performance against Mansfield when they dropped out of the league. Mansfield wearing Rovers' kit no less ?

  23. Be interesting to see what they do , I guess will have to be in tier 1 or 2 to allow fans back in. But then Downden said restrictions will be tighter post 2 December than they were pre national lockdown. Personally I think it’s lip service , won’t see fans in grounds in two weeks time , which for us would be home to Brum

  25. But Mr Al-Quidi took the credit for doing all those things a few months after he rode into town ? We are either following American election practises and counting things twice or we have signed up to the green new deal and every few years will be recycling our list of groundbreaking achievements.

  26. Shocking news that the two teams have taken the decision to apply the boot at this time. If they were men's teams it might be seen in a more predictable light, but the WSL is not that kind of environment - up to now, that is! Beard has a history of success with Liverpool not so long ago, so his departure is a bit more of a surprise. Clearly the pressure for achievment is growing more. Could these moves give City women a bit of encouragement? There are precious few points among the bottom clubs at the moment so the turmoil might be an advantage. And I'll be the first to say 'Job for Cotts/LJ/Phil Neville... to get that out of the way.

  28. I think Tisdale is a good appointment for them. Whilst his managerial record is not great, he is certainly better than the team he is now going to manage. He has some promotions on his CV, so now let him add a couple of relegations.

  36. You've clearly not seen the goal they scored at the weekend then - we'd have been delighted with that one. I'd agree they've been more successful in recent times with a basic style than when attempting to play "properly" - Dobson was a disaster following on from the thugball hoofing of Jabba the Hut Francis and I suspect the already legendary Garner went wrong by trying to play "too much" football with the resources available to him. I also have a gut feeling that Tisdale, if it's he, will do just fine there.

  39. Oh dear. This post comes up every now and then. It has been explained many times after being relegated last time and falling to the foot of league 1 there were several threads from rovers fans on their forum not to mention numerous tweets gloating st our demise. Then the tables turned and I guess we cant stop laughing at them back now. This thread highlights their stupidity on a near daily basis.

  40. Years ago, just after Tisdale had signed for us from Soton, I took a call from him at my work. Spoke for about 20 minutes - really nice guy, intelligent, articulate and as has been said, immaculately dressed and plays decent football. They’ll think he’s a witch.

  41. Seems highly unlikely that Tisdale will crawl up Keynsham High St so pissed that he can’t find the front door of his hotel to me..
