  1. I'm not saying he was the best player on the pitch today, but credit where credit is due. He was ignored for most of the time he's been at City, shunted off to Hull, where he seems to have been appreciated. Then he's summoned back to Ashton Gate, and plunged straight back into a team of players, most of whom he probably had only just met, for the Portsmouth game, and then kept his place for today. I thought he did well, all things considered. So let's give him a chance to make his mark, and not just write him off as an also-ran. He showed glimpses today of a decent player. Once he becomes more

  4. The trick with Palmer is to spot when he’s gone off the boil in a game (or on occasion hasn’t even arrived) and replace him. Massengo comes on yesterday, shows nice feet but more importantly keeps possession of the football and it’s a different game. In hindsight it might have been changed 10 minutes earlier. However in the first twenty minutes Palmer showed us the damage he can do when he is “on it” and you wouldn’t even contemplate hooking him whilst he is doing that. If he gives us 75 minutes of that we are generally going to be comfortably ahead......when he doesn’t we are a man short

  5. Whatever it is it doesn't need to be put on a public forum. Both Simpson and Holden made it clear that something personal and sad so leave at that id say.

  6. There hasn't been a grand master plan the last few years, I don't expect there to be one now Regarding the contracts, I will actually defend them in this instance though. Fammy aside , I would allow the rest to leave. Paterson, Hunt and Baker have proved time and time again they are not good enough to take us to the next level (top 6), and I am not sure why people are getting so excited about Walsh, who has offered nothing at this level since he signed I don't think Holden will be here next season. And I think they will be looking to clear the decks and get rid of this dead wood so

  7. James Linnington....a very poor ref. Completely bottled sending off Bielik. Is that the Rooney effect? A more obvious pair of yellows you’ll ever see, first one was quite possibly a red.

  8. So we all moan like mad about injuries on here, make up / suggest fanciful and speculative conspiracy theories, but when our local paper reporter suggests such a thing, having seen another journo write such, we want him burned at the stake As with most reporters of this type, they won’t publish stuff without checking sources first.

  12. Classic Rovers on Twitter today, I wonder how the ‘300 more were locked out’ figure was arrived at? Did they do a head count? Did they multiply the actual number by 10, then add 100, then round up to the nearest 100?

  14. For a while now we have tended to have too many midfield players that are very similar. The exception to that has probably been Palmer, but when he went out on loan, and with the impact of injuries, the cupboard was pretty bare. As it happened, force of circumstances saw the emergence of Bakinson, the resurgence of Nagy and it seems a flicker of HNM’s potential. For pretty well all of this season the main grievance has been the paucity of any real attacking threat and, whatever fans might think of him, Palmer seems to be the one player in our squad that has the ability to create, do some

  18. But it’s not a fact , (That he’s not good enough) whether that be mine , yours or Dean Holdens opinion Also its not correct that everyone thinks he is ‘not good enough ‘ , and many , understandably , would want to see more of him before forming an opinion As for Semenyo , he might not be finding goals at the moment , but considering where he came from and timescale it would IMHO ludicrous to mark him as ‘not good enough’ based on any goals return - There’s much more to his game than that and he has an X factor that we rarely have or have had in our sides over the decades

  19. Got to love how they regurgitate posts likes this, as some kind of celebration..! Their focus on having some people locked out (because it was a non league ground, rather than any exceptionally spectacular sized following) seems to over shadow that fact that they were A) NON league..! & B) Held to a goalless draw by a NON league side...!

  20. The thing that having injuries and Covid problems does is gives opportunities to fringe players who are getting a chance to play without feeling under pressure from the crowd. We’re also seeing players return like Mawson who steadies our defence. I think that this is a good thing and will create competition for places. Dean will also be able to throw players into the mix knowing that they have had some game time. The more this happens the less of a risk it becomes. Dean can now look at players who are lacking in confidence and freshen it up. I enjoyed yesterday’s game. There were times wh

  21. If he could do all the things he is good at but also never make a mistake, tracked back relentlessly, never misplaced a pass or lost the ball around our own penalty area he would be nowhere near Ashton Gate but would be playing in the prem. If he were a journeyman midfielder, with solid work rate, playing simple short passes sideways and backwards to minimise risk and avoid mistakes,, I reckon he would easily fit in at any of the numerous clubs he’s been at on loan. These players are two a penny and pretty well what we’ve tended to have in abundance, but what we’ve lacked is someone with

  23. Here's a question. Can you give Bentley the same as Nagy, when one ran his nuts off , had most blocks & interceptions and the other had his quietist day of the season? Joking aside, I had Vyner MoM for a couple of reasons. He made a very big difference to the balance of a misfiring midfield. Kept it simple, touch was good and I don't remember him misplacing a pass. He seemed to add a calmness to the side which worked really well with Nagy being busy Plus his goal. Mawson was awesome though. I loved how he followed his man, either won the ball further out, or at least stopped him

  24. Player ratings are 100% subjective - how many times have we seen newspaper ratings on a City game and felt aggrieved or that the journalist wasn’t at the game? Personally I think they’re meaningless just as possession stats are.

  26. Repeating the same mistake I see. A fact is a thing that is known or proved to be true. An opinion is a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based .on fact or knowledge. What you're doing there is stating an opinion and trying to insist to 100s if not 1000s of perfectly intelligent people that it's a fact.

  27. I expect they were ‘locked up’ as opposed to locked out. I suspect the Tote Enders who still think it’s the mid-70’s turned up to sleepy Woking reminiscing about Millwall and started intimidating anyone wearing anything red, racially abusing people and punching horses. They were easy to identify and arrest as they were bald with 1 or 2 teeth, wearing a 70’s replica home shirt and carrying motorcycle chains whilst singing the bow legged chicken song.

  30. People go on about various poor refs, but Linnington's name should be top of the list. He never seems to have a good game. I have no idea how he's still officiating at this level. I suppose the only thing you can say in his favour is that his decisions are so inconsistent that you are as likely to be the side benefitting from his negligence as the side suffering from it! He can't control a game though.

  34. Palmer is still learning and needs to have regular game time where he can make , and learn from, his mistakes. For example don’t fanny about in your own penalty area , clear the football. He will break opposition lines with his style but if he loses the ball we are often caught out . His teammates need to be ready for this and help him out . If you don’t take risks you play the ball square or backwards with no danger at all to the opposing team which is what we have been painfully guilty of for much of this injury ravaged season so far.

  35. It doesn't matter how much you have seen of him, it is still only your opinion not fact. Whether and when I think he will be in the team is just my opinion, not fact. What is fact is that you cannot spell many of the player's names correctly.

  41. Half the battle. Doesn’t really matter if we think one player was better than another or someone was MOTM rather than someone else. First cohesive performance in a long time. Even in Preston’s spell, we still kept a good shape, tried to do the right basics. Couldn’t get it to stick to get us up the pitch...and although we might’ve dropped a bit deeper we did tryto keep our distances fairly short and pass (not overplay) out of defence..

  42. It’s funny how so many posters (not you) focus so much on individuals, what they do or don’t do with the ball. Not enough focus on what they do off the ball, or for the team, certainly when being critical of a performance or a player overall. How come this alleged group of shit individuals (as rated by certain posters, again not you!) beat Preston for the first time in 16 attempts. Because they played as a team! I couldn’t give a toss whether an individual appears to play crap and we win, if I can see that actually he’s contributed in other ways. It’s spotting those players that a

  43. Very strange that Massengo plays as an attacking midfielder rather than a defensive one for France U23s. I'm not even sure if Monaco ever saw him as a defensive midfielder, either. Play him further forward and more centrally, and I'm sure he will flourish.

  45. Palmer needs to get fit to see how good he can be for us. Massengo, just needs games he will be quality now he's added some strength and grit. Adelakun , not convinced. Better today, did well without the ball and worked hard, for me needs to affect the game more. Semenyo, difficult one. No doubt he has talent. Causes mayhem running with the ball, I'd like to see him have a game centrally, give him a chance to see if that's his role or not. Needs a goal so he can relax when the chances come. I think it's hilarious people writing HNM off at 19 or AS at barely 21.
