  1. He’s 25 now and been with us since 2016! Thinking there’s a player in COD doesn’t cut it anymore. Move him on please.

  2. He’s not had a transfer window, he’s had a lot of injuries and he inherited a team bereft of ideas and confidence. Mediocre results are a massive improvement on what we had at the end of Holden’s reign. He has impressed me with interviews and with moments where our football has clearly worked under him. But Gary Johnson lost several in a row when he first took over and Cotts had up and down results in his first half season. For me, this season was always about him assessing the squad and working out what is needed rather than expecting a spectacular upturn in form. My perception is he is providing leadership and starting to unpick the problems and weaknesses. If he stays - and I very much hope he does - next season is when I will be judging on results.

  3. ....who would actually like Rovers to get promoted? I miss proper meaningful Bristol derbies. I expect the usual gas bashing in the comments but genuinely interested in peoples thoughts on this one

  4. Sky Sports just launched a new channel: - Sky Sports Steam Train Racing Filmed exclusively at Parson Street, and runs for the summer.

  5. With 8 games to go City are comfortably sat in mid table with little or no chance of reaching the play offs or getting relegated and it means that plans for the next campaign will need a review assuming Big Nige signs a longer contract. Ashton reckons that he and LJ planed at least 2 windows ahead but now we have a different manager who will no doubt have players in mind that he’s worked with who he feels could do a good job for us. It’ll be interesting to see now that pans out over the summer. Big Nige has only been in post for a few games but it’s clear from his interviews that he really understands the game and his initial thoughts on what City need were impressively perceptive and he wasn’t talking about players either. Personally I’m delighted that City now have a man in charge who has been there and done it and hopefully he’ll sign a longer deal. If he stays then my hopes for next season will go up massively.

  6. I honestly didn’t see us as weak yesterday, I thought we dished out a fair bit, and got a bit back. Diedhiou actually fought quite hard first half and then I thought he was unfairly tackled 3 or 4 times second half without being given. I certain didn’t see players not engaging, I didn’t see dangled legs, I thought there was decent commitment. We conceded two poor (keeper errors) goals however, the first one, the all-important one, was while we were well in the ascendancy - without creating tonnes. And that clouds views. This was in no way similar to the game up north earlier this season. Up to the final 25 yards of the pitch we were decent enough, but where it counted we let ourselves down. We got set-pieces in good positions but didn’t take advantage. That was very frustrating. Palmer has been taking good corners but didn’t take any yesterday.

  7. I think the talk of us being a massive mess is overblown, it's not like we are Derby or Birmingham, if we're a massive mess I'm not sure how to describe teams like Sheffield Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong, Nige (or next seasons manager) has a job to do but it's 6 ish players not 11/12 and there will be room to do that because of the players leaving, it's a sound infrastructure with the stadium and training facilities, there are some tweaks to the backroom staff (eg medical) that are required. No manager ever walks into a perfect team and backroom staff but ours is relatively ok IMO.

  8. OTIB. Like many others here, I've witnessed derbies over many years - my personal favourite being the 2-1 FA Cup victory at Eastville in the 80's. However, I've never been happier than watching them drop into the Conference. I'd gladly forfeit any future derbies in favour of making that a permanent state.

  9. I guess NTTDS is not into cricket as many of us are - the Sky cricket coverage is second to none and the main reason I subscribed to Sky Sports in the first place.

  10. All about opinions, cod is a superb athlete,,, but his goals and assists record tells the story, he isnt a championship footballer in my opinion, weve been watching him have 1 or 2 good games a season for years.

  12. Sorry but his goals and assists stats per season are dreadful. Can't pass or cross and lacks composure. A sub against tired legs is his only use.

  13. It has been many years now, probably almost 50, but, from memory, the last time I w***ed myself silly (as you describe it so elegantly ) I thought of more inspiring things than City’s manager. I seem to recall that the young lady in Bewitched was a particular favourite - I won’t name her out of mutual respect, as I believe she was quite keen on me as well .

  14. You are in a minority. No thank you. We've moved on so much as a club both on and off the pitch with a redeveloped state of the art stadium, brand new training complex, multi million pound transfer dealings, a stadium successfully staging high profile concerts, whereas they have stood still (In the 1970's like most of their diminishing fan base) or gone backwards to such an extent that they are just a laughing stock joke of a club (relegated out of the Football League by a team wearing their own kit, a ram shackle outdated rugby ground with numerous tents, a Cricket Pavillion and a garden shed on top of numerous pipe dream stadium announcements. Football has changed so much. The only connection between the two clubs is the city they both play in. You might as well ask Spurs fans if they miss playing the local derby with Barnet such is the gulf. Apart from the name we have absolutely NOTHING in common. The only way I can see us playing them is if by some miracle they manage to stay in a cup competition long enough to draw us in a later round. Highly unlikely. Football has moved on at a pace to such an extent that there are now generations of fans who have never witnessed a Bristol derby. I don't miss it at all.

  15. I think there is a player in C' OD. He's got the stature, athletisism and decent left foot to be a real talent. He just needs a manager to get the best out of him. He would be a "keep" for me in the summer but i do agree that he has to start producing consistant performances next season

  16. Not a tin hat, more like a brain scan if you can’t see the shambles he has inherited? Give him the summer to clear the players that are just not good enough. Bring in a few new ones and then judge him. But no way am I judging him with the current squad. Infact the guy speaks sense to me and what I do like, is the fact he hasn’t thrown anyone under the bus yet, unlike the jokers we had before.

  17. Sorry about this but, it has to be said. People are defending Dan Bentley and stating that he's well in credit for the amount of times he's saved us this term and, he does deserve credit for those saves. People have also taken the time to try and explain how our defensive set up is sorted out on the training ground and that, the heat of the moment is also catered for on the training ground and that Bentley is responding to the coaches directives. We also agree that keepers, like all players make mistakes. What I have witnessed today and since he has been here, are not mistakes, they are weaknesses in his decision making, coupled with the strength, desire and commitment to actually claim the ball in dangerous areas, that he should be more than capable of. This is not a new thing, it has been happening for a long period of time, with crosses flashing across goal and the ball in areas for him to claim but, not doing so, usually down to indecision on his part and not predetermined on the training ground. That today from our keeper, was as weak as I can remember. Goalkeeping is a specialist part of the team, a part I have followed with great interest for over fifty years, having played the role myself, all be it in a lower standard than this. However, the basics are the same now as they were in my playing days. Keep the ball out of the net, claim whatever you can, get your angles right, be decisive and organise/assist your defenders, this last part is vitally important and makes a difference in the amount of times that saves from shots/headers are actually required. We have a keeper who fails in parts of those basic requirements and if this manager stays, I think we'll be accepting any decent offer for Bentley and, acquiring a new keeper. I'm going to put my crash helmet on now, because I have dared to criticise one of our best players. I'd argue that if you can take the plaudits, then you must also be open to criticism.

  18. Don’t know about others, but he seemed to be thinking about next season in a positive way. He clearly was frustrated with players today but not his style to say so Good to hear he sees his role as problem solving because on the pitch, and maybe off it with the coaches, there are a number of problems to solve I am sure he will succeed. From what he said he clearly wants to be the man to take City up

  19. 21st April will be the last planned mid week red button game that Bristol City will be involved in. I don't think we will be live on sky again this season. England games will be live on ITV.

  23. I get the impression he likes Walsh. He was impressed with him in the u23 game and has played him as much as realistic since then. I know people get criticised for being hasty on Walsh, but my gut feeling is that he's got something about him and we should tie him down. I appreciate I haven't watched him play that much, but from what I have seen he appears to have vision, awareness and poise that is indicative of a good standard of player.

  24. Exactly. Aside from the relegated Prem sides, any job he would take at this level would require an element of rebuilding. At this level there's always a reasonable amount of tweaking and churn required, especially when you have different managers with different styles. I understand yesterday was disappointing, but Rotherham aren't going to roll over and give us the win. They executed their game plan and beat us. It happens, ok a few too many times in recent years, but at this level you will lose games you expect to win against attritional teams. People enjoy morbidly predicting he's not going to stay and we will spiral into disaster, but I am not sure he has said anything to indicate he has any other plans for next season beyond managing us. Everything he has said about staying on has been a positive.

  25. Your appraisal here is hardly indicating skilled for another role. Or not play the player concentrating on players who want to be at BCFC and are demonstrating that desire.

  26. I’ve looked out for Nimes’ results to see if he scores and when he does found highlights on You Tube. Anything he’s done has been no better than when he was with us - in fact none of his goals have been clean mid distance or further strikes. Another player who excites a lot but never developed into a consistent top quality player. Sadly we were right to allow him to move on.

  27. I have posted similar to this a few times before. It wasn't long ago that we played a back four of Bailey Wright, Aden Flint, Nathan Baker and Hörður Magnússon. All physically strong defenders and with Marlon Pack in front of them too! The spine of our team is very weak and NP will know this needs strenghthening over the summer. For me, even Kalas isn't a particularly dominant first ball centre back. He's a good defender who can handle himself but if he plays next to a Flint, Baker or Webster he improves another 20%

  29. I think we’ve said for the last couple of years, “next season is crucial”. We’ll be saying it for another couple if he stays. If we have aspirations of top 8 football, he isn’t good enough. Should’ve shipped him out after the contract debacle. He is one of many who are of similar standard or level of consistency. O’Dowda’s best performances have been when he’s out of the side. Like many.

  30. It’s worse than nothing, they’re parasites. The media still always use the misleading phrase the red “half” of Bristol. It hasn’t been true for many, many years. If they folded this myth would go too, I would be very happy to never play them again.

  32. Keep playing like we are and it wont be long until we are rubbing shoulders in the same division. You will then get your wish. Me personally , I hope that they drop like a stone through he leagues never to be seen again.

  33. I am the only one still to be convinced by him? Majority of posters seem to think he can do no wrong despite some mediocre results thus far. Tin hat on.

  34. Wages obviously not an issue as he's already here. His new contract will be a continuation of his current terms with likely bonuses for promotion or cup progress. The selling of assets is a concern given our history, but I can't see us appointing Pearson and adhering to the same strategy so rigidly. Also, it helps that we don't really have any 'assets' in the same way we have in recent years. Of course Pearson will want to build a team, but he wouldn't have taken the job even on a short contract if he wasn't going to be able to do that. These conversations will have already happened. Pearson isn't naïve, he won't walk into a job without checking if he will be given the correct tools.

  35. By off the pitch my reference was to coaching, scouting, and medical team. As you raise issue of redeveloped Ashton Gate, forgive me but it lacks atmosphere, lots of blue and rugger stuff in concourse. It reeks to me of corporatism.

  37. Very true. But MA is a snake, and to survive will know he will not have the same scenario as he has with the puppet likes of LJ and DH. I am sure Nige has got Shakes involved, will be gob smacked if he is not here, and MA will be following through (and maybe his forte) . But we have to improve recruitment, the OAP signings are a joke , where is Toney Mk 2 .....

  38. Massengo, Palmer, Walsh, Jay D, Lansbury, Sessegnon, Martin and IMO Nagy all have the technical abilities to keep possession. I know not all of these have been available at times but I don’t think it’s just down the technical aspect. As Nige stated in his interview this evening there’s a large psychological component and I’d agree on his assessment of the players inability to deal with setbacks. They seem to be deflated very easily, whether that’s conceding, an injury to an important player, not scoring early or being frustrated by a well set up team etc we don’t seem to be able to keep an intensity of aggression and belief in our play that is needed to break teams down.

  39. I couldn't help but think...hmmm... we've been here before, as in courting and making the new coach feel he's going to be backed. I cringed when he singled out MA as being ever so helpful and accomodating. Of course he will be...I can imagine his head is firmly up near his throat by now. Actions will speak louder than words. I just hope we don't get to a point where he signs up, based on promises, and then finds they backtrack.

  40. Thought he was decent first half. Not really done much wrong this season. Was consistently playing well before the injury. Actually quite liked him deep winning the ball and driving forward earlier in the season. Was looking good considering he just came back from that injury. Massive shame if he's got another bad one. He looked gutted.

  41. Always felt Niki Maenpaa was the most assured keeper we have had for a long time. Calm, good height, great positional sense that mean he could make what would be difficult saves look comfortable. Still has two or three more years as a keeper so it was a pity he was injury prone. No denying Bentley has made some spectacular saves and was excellent earlier in the season. All keepers will make mistakes but it's the tendency to go on a run of mistakes that is the issue. There was a reason he was moved on by Brentford and Bentley seems a confidence player who always has one stage in the season when he will make a run of mistakes when that confidence is lost. I don't think sides aiming to push for promotion can have a keeper who is prone to that. It's harsh but I'd sell for any offers over 3m and get a solid Maenpaa type of keeper to compete with Max. I'd like to see Max given a run of games until the end of the season. He can do the same reaction saves as DB and deserves his chance.

  44. We see thing very differently. I just don’t rate CO’D as a midfielder let alone converting him to a striker. Along with many others he was extremely poor again today. His delivery from dead ball situations is dire as is his general passing game and his inevitable pirouette and backward pass when breaking forward does my head in. I truly hope whatever injury he experienced today isn’t too serious but we need to move him on rather than include him in our future plans, imo. I've given up on Famara too. Thanks for the memories, Fam but if we’re ever to challenge at the top of the Championship, we need strikers who threaten the opposition goal and trouble defenders - he does that far too infrequently.
