  1. They have a population in Shrewsbury of 72,000, which is probably higher than Rovers share of Bristol, with it's population of 466,000. That's sharing out the rest between City, Bristol Rugby, The flyers, City women and the supporters of the plough and windmill skittle team.

  2. Luke Leahy gave it his all.Not an accomplished defender but he and Mc Cormick really gave everything unlike most of the others. Best of luck.Good little club with excellent training facilities and a stadium which suits their small crowds to perfection and has great catering and disabled facilities. Shrews only club in the whole West Mercia area of;Shrops,Worcs and Herefordshire so potential is there. Deliberate use of the words 'little' and 'small', to satisfy themselves that they are bigger than they actually are......

  12. The CL Final has shown a number of things. The standard of top European football has risen much higher than the WSL. Granted, Barcelona are not short of money or top class resources but the fact is that nearly all the players were Spanish, and most of them brought up through their academy. Compare that to Chelsea's imported talent. For all the talk of the WSL being a shining beacon it looks a little pale now. It seems that the NWSL of America still has a big draw (two City players are off this season). The real state of play is revealed. Chelsea are a good team, no doubt, but they were a yard slower, a touch poorer and tactically second best. Yes, they may not have had their best XI available but they were shredded down both wings and found the midfield almost impenetrable. I thought former Vixen Sophie Ingle was a lost soul for much of the game and the Kirby/Kerr partnership was unable to make any real impression. Giving a freak own goal away in the first minute and suffering a soft penalty shorly after made for a comfortable match for a side who were clearly well drilled and in a familiar pattern. Typically Spanish, and difficult to deal with when on top. One thing that crossed my mind is that City (as Academy) beat Barca at Ashton Gate seven years ago. Look how the two clubs have progressed.

  13. I feel you’re being unkind to Notts County. They have fallen on hard times but they are only one decision below Rovers and should they get promoted via the playoff they will be in the same division. The advantage County has over Rovers is the the approx 19k all seated stadium with the income generating conference facilities.

  21. What a bonkers game. So jealous of the rugby fans being there, really hits home how much I miss the football atmosphere. Did they just say if the Bears had taken all their points it would be 62-7 now!

  25. More Bristolians outside the city boundaries than inside nowadays Rich. Given that's nigh on 1M people now, the gas must have at least 5 or 600? BTW, I nipped in the barbers on Banjo Island, the gas 'heartland', today. A dad with 2 young uns already in there, all wearing our red. We're taking over everywhere, I tell you.

  26. Shrewsbury get between 5,500 and 8,000 in a newish 10000 all seater stadium. Similar crowds, much better stadium. In a higher division. Bigger that the gas then.

  29. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds. Remember how they were banging on about us being owned by an offshore company? Didn't get any quieter when it was pointed out that they are. They've touted themselves around to any ground willing to house them, bit like a franchise , doesn't stop them. It's no helped by the Post reading their forum and taking it as Gospel. Billionaire ? £15k watch ? They were as excitable as any bedwetter from gAsschat .

  32. Thanks for that - it would appear our Rovers friend may be right, i.e. a Category 3 offence, albeit aggravated by previous convictions for same, but given what appears to be a marked reluctance by the Courts to impose custodial sentences, I suspect you will be proved correct. Incidentally, a 97% success rate in your department is pretty impressive ?.

  33. I work in homicide, so our jobs mostly really end in life sentences, but everything you need to know is here: https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/assault-occasioning-actual-bodily-harm-racially-religiously-aggravated-abh/ He might be right, it might be in the lesser category, but I have absolutely no idea of the circumstances of the case. Sadly I know just how much you’ve got to do to get a term of imprisonment, so I’d think it’d be unlikely he’ll end up with custodial.

  37. And people question the existence of this thread. Some even suggest it causes some of us a problem as we`re obsessed with them. Not me. If I`ve had a bad day and come on here and see that the thread has advanced by two or three pages it`s enough to cheer me up with the anticipation of the latest (self inflicted) disaster to have befallen them. It`s quite the reverse of what is suggested, it`s almost therapy!

  38. Also on a more mundane note, the Impairment mentioned in one of the sets of Written Reasons in terms of Gellaw Newco 203... In Summer 2019, it came through to CH that Gellaw Newco 203 had taken over Sevco 5112- and the document suggests that this 'takeover' occurred on June 28th 2018. The reason I say 'takeover' is that Gellaw Newco 203 became the Controlling Party- even though that itself was controlled by Mel Morris. This meant that the Accounts submitted in March 2019 as Projections and updated in early July 2019 inclusive of Lampard compensation- these were Sevco 5112- whereas the draft ones submitted to the EFL in 2020 were Gellaw Newco 203 Limited. It is unclear if it is £32.1m in terms of Impairment inclusive of the £22.2m in Player Registration Impairment or if these two are separate. Indeed, these are two separate categories as P&S Regulations themselves suggest but the fact that... Well from Point 7 c) When you put this in conjunction with a change in controlling entity- Sevco 5112 Limited to Gellaw Newco 203 Limited- this appears to be an attempt to muddy the waters maybe in terms of Impairment that is excluded from P&S and Impairment that is not? Still can't work out if which of these is most likely...for avoidance of doubt, Impairment of Player Registrations unless there are specific circumstances, counts against P&S in full. Projected 2019 Loss (Sevco 5112)-Impairment of Player Regs-P&S Allowances=Underlying P&S Loss. Projected 2019 Loss (Sevco 5112) + Impairment Player Regs - P&S Allowances=Underlying P&S Loss. Projected 2019 Loss (Gellaw Newco 203 Draft) + Impairment of Player Regs - Impairment of Goodwill - P&S Allowances=Underlying P&S Loss. Projected 2019 Loss (Gellaw Newco 203 Draft) + Impairment of Player Regs - Impairment of Goodwill + Add back in the proportion of Impairment of Goodwill that is linked to Player Registrations=Underlying P&S Loss. Without any Accounts for 2 years it's hard to judge...I hope there is an open-ended Embargo while their Accounts are missing. That aside, seen the odd curious suggestion out there that Derby shouldn't be punished as they gained no advantage on the pitch- all I can say is that Birmingham used that in their defences in 2019 (yes they were clearly guilty to the tune of a £9m overspend, this is less clearcut)- and it got short shrift. Whether a club gains an advantage is immaterial, the mere act of trying to gain an advantage through a) Overspending or b) Inflating the amount that a club could seemingly legitimately spend through creative means is sufficient for a punishment if proven. In short, success or failure is immaterial- Reading may well find this out in 2021/22. It feels like clutching a little.

  41. The Alan Dicks Stand sounds fine by me. The other point is that one day AD will pass to that great Ashton Gate in the sky, hopefully not for a long time yet, when there will be an outpouring grief and calls for some form of permanent memorial, including calls for a stand to be named after him. Why not recognise his efforts now, when he’s still alive and able to appreciate the affection the support has for him?

  42. The way Terry picked us up and turned us around in our darkest hour fully deserves the highest recognition. Thicket and Dicks achieved marvellous things for Bristol City but, in different ways, Terry Cooper’s contribution to our history is far more significant than the achievements of Thicket and Dicks - he’s first in line for a stand to be named after him in my opinion ...

  43. Whilst it's right to recognise the achievements of Harry and Alan, what Coops did went far, far, far beyond any success the club may have achieved. He literally dragged this club up from the gutter in it's darkest days and gave the club back its heart and soul. No other manager in my lifetime (43 yrs) has come close to the monumental achievement that Terry Cooper fought for in my opinion. Football isn't all about winning matches.

  44. Jesus! Its got to the point where we have to analyse our performance over the season before deciding if we’re entitled to take the piss out of our rivals getting relegated ? I hear this from Gasheads a lot, which is funny because they certainly didn’t care when we were relegated into a division ABOVE them. ’If, if, if....” ”If there were 5 more games shitheads you’d be down” Yeah, maybe, but there wasn’t 5 more games. ”If you hadn’t won 4 games at the start of the season you be down” ...yeah, and? I guess we were playing pub teams at the start of the season were we? Funeral procession was a bit cringy, that should be saved for when their club does die. We weren’t relegated, we didn’t finish with the lowest points total in the FL and we’re now 2 divisions above them again despite them saying they were ‘coming for us’. I intend to enjoy my Summer.
