  1. It’s a year today that NP took charge, https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-city/nigel-pearson-has-shown-flexibility-and-innovation-and-he-will-need-more-at-bristol-city-3575434 For the record I remain 100% delighted that he is here and very much look forward to seeing his ongoing management turn the Club around. He has IMO already made a significant impact under very difficult circumstances. His experience, steadfast approach, clear communication and football/life mindset are all utterly refreshing and will lead to a much better football Club in terms of culture, results and identity. While I appreciate that not everyone is convinced, for me we are a Club being transformed by a capable man who knows what a huge job he has taken on.

  2. Ignore the result. I think he’s gone up another level tonight. His tactical intelligence and game awareness for 18 were absolutely astonishing. He plays like a seasoned pro. No doubt he is going all the way to the top of the game.

  3. Another good performance from a team half made up of young’uns. Don’t mind it at all, don’t really care about the result. Next few months remains a bit of a free hit in terms of fine tuning and getting experience into players. While we’re still losing plenty, I think we’ve served up more entertainment in the past two/three months than the past two/three years put together.

  5. Tonight it’s Coventry City under the BS3 sky with kick off at 745 pm, it’s on the red button and on Robins TV for domestic and overseas viewers, link to a pass: https://bristolcitypayments.streamamg.com/account/register/step1 If you want a ticket click here: https://tickets.bristol-sport.co.uk/en-GB/events/bristol city v coventry city/2022-2-22_19.45/ashton gate stadium?hallmap They have sold more than 1500 tickets. I watched them lose 2-0 last Tuesday against Cardiff, they are generally a fluid, mobile, passing team with a mistake in them. They play neat football and are a workmanlike team who look to play through the thirds. O’Hare was a threat last Tuesday night. He has started 30 Championship games for the Sky Blues this season contributing to five goals in the process. The midfielder started his career at Aston Villa but only made a handful of appearances for them before permanently moving to Coventry in 2020 after a successful loan spell the previous season. On Saturday they scored in the 93rd minute to beat Barnsley 1-0. They are currently 10th after 31 games with 47 points. At their place their 10 men beat us 3-2 with a very late goal from Godden: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/highlights-coventry-city-3-2-bristol-city/ that was the last time we were awarded a penalty and as this article explains we are bottom of the league in that department, as since the start of the 2018/19 season, City have been awarded a penalty every 1,834 minutes: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-spot-kick-horror-6506310 The head-to-head stats are very close, we have won 23, drawn 22 and lost 24. The most memorable game between us was 19 May 1977, what a night, I remember it like it was yesterday, I was one of the 36,892 in attendance. For younger fans, here’s the story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventry_City_2–2_Bristol_City_(1977) + https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/day-bristol-city-game-led-66455 and here’s the pictures: Josh Eccles and club captain Liam Kelly are both injured, while Matty Godden is recovering following appendicitis. Jake Bidwell signed for them from Swansea last month. Players who have played for them and us include, Liam Walsh, Booby Gould and Clarrie Bourton, (as per below he is the Sky Blues’ leading goalscorer of all-time) began his league career with us. Their manager has often been mentioned as a candidate to manage us. Following a playing career in which he scored over 100 goals in nearly 400 appearances in the Football League, Mark Robins' first steps into management came with Rotherham United in 2007. From there he moved on to fellow Yorkshire side Barnsley in 2009. Taking over with the club at the bottom of the table, Robins guided them nine points clear of the drop zone and on a run of eight games unbeaten, finishing in 18th place. Robins first joined the Sky Blues in 2012 and soon became a fan-favourite, catapulting them up the league from relegation candidates to play-off contenders. He led the club to the Area Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and had the highest win percentage of any manager in the club's history with 52.5% at the time of his departure. Robins left for Huddersfield Town in February 2013, guiding the club to safety on the final day of the season after a 2-2 draw against his former side Barnsley. A two-year spell at Scunthorpe United followed, before a return to the Sky Blues in March 2017. In his first few weeks back with City, Robins led the Sky Blues to victory in the Checkatrade Trophy Final at Wembley, after a 2-1 win over Oxford United. Robins could do nothing to prevent the Sky Blues suffering relegation to League Two, however, this would only last one season, as again he led City to Wembley in the Play-Off Final. The Sky Blues beat Exeter City 3-1 in the final to secure promotion back to League One. After a year of stabilising in League One, the Sky Blues took the league by storm in 2019-20. Despite ground-sharing in Birmingham, Robins' Coventry City side won the League One title and promotion to the Championship while playing an attractive and exciting brand of football. The man in charge tonight is Dean Whitestone. Lets hope we can record back-to-back wins for the first time this season. NP may stick with the same starting line up as last Saturday, although knocks, tired legs and managing Joe Williams will all have to be taken into consideration. It’s a year today that NP took charge, be great to mark that milestone with a convincing home win, https://www.bristolworld.com/sport/football/bristol-city/nigel-pearson-has-shown-flexibility-and-innovation-and-he-will-need-more-at-bristol-city-3575434 Last November John Sillett sadly passed away at the age of 85, he was a truly legendary figure in Coventry City’s history. Sillett of course also enjoyed time with us, he was recruited by Alan Dicks as Youth Team Coach in 1968. During his time with the youth sides at City they ventured into Europe to win tournaments in France and Holland, which included victory over Ajax in the final to win the Blauw Whit Trophy. His young City side also reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final in 1970. He played a major part in in the development of young talent coming into the club in the late 1960s and early 1970s, many of who would go on to play for the first team. Gerry Gow, Tom Ritchie, Ray Cashley, Gary Collier, Keith Fear, and David Rodgers all became regulars for many years after and also played a part in the promotion winning squad of 1976. Sillett was promoted to First Team coach in 1970, alongside Alan Dicks as the pair began to forge a side for the future, with signings such Gerry Sweeney and Donnie Gillies adding further quality to the team. At his passing Dicks paid tribute to Sillett saying: "John was a fantastic character and coach. He loved a bit of fun and would liven a room up but he could also instil discipline which is very important for young players. He taught them the right way to do things. John had the strengths you need as a coach and he went on to great things and his record speaks for itself." Coventry The club was originally founded under the name of Singers FC back in 1883, after a meeting took place at the Singer Factory Gentleman’s club. It wasn’t until 1898 that the Sky Blues adopted their current name of Coventry City, thus going on to join the Football League in 1919. Clarrie Bourton scored 189 goals for them in the 1930’s in more recent times Dion Dublin features as a top scorer with 72 goals. The club have only ever won one ‘major’ trophy, with the Midlands outfit lifting the FA Cup back in 1987 against Tottenham Hotspur. They recorded it’s biggest ever victory in 1934, as they thumped us 9-0. The Midlands outfit has played at seven different stadiums over the years, including Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium and Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s Stadium.

  6. ******* disappointing but I’m not criticising the players after this performance. I honestly think we’re not far away from things really, really clicking. If we keep the bulk of the team together, we’re going to surprise people next season.

  7. Remember: performances over results. Good young team putting in a decent performance against a team higher than us in the league. (Still ******* annoying though)

  8. Rewind 12 months and are we really discussing all of Semenyo, Scott and HNM being worth 8 figures? Weimann approaching 20 goals and Pring being an automatic selection? All on a comparative shoestring? Inconsistencies will remain for a while and we’ll have many a down, but we’re now entertaining to watch and definitely a club on the up. Cheers Nige!

  9. Or you could ask, would those youngsters still be playing u23 football with someone else in charge. Would another manager have risked Scott (and Bell for that matter) at RWB? Would Robbie Cundy have been brought on as sub in crucial points of the last 3 games? Benarous too, hadn’t even become a regular in the u23s until this season. Yeah, he might’ve been forced into it to some extent, but there are plenty of managers who would’ve been sticking with the older players, or bleating about playing the youngsters. Nige is actually saying they’ve been better in some cases. But it’s all about opinions.

  10. Calm down and take a deep breath Yes , always gutting to concede a late goal (Again) but have a look at the big Ure picture If someone had told you 12-18 months we’d be pretty surviving without some breathing space in a side containing Scott, HNM , Benarous, Bell , we’re becoming regulars or semi regular That we’d need to find sufficient goals from Martin / Weimann and Antoine Whilst missing expected key first team starters in James , Baker, Williams .... The performance is what should be painting the picture Nigel Pearson is building something very decent here

  11. We are infinitely more watchable and entertaining than at any time in the previous 2 years and if the young players that we have continue their trajectory then we are shaping something exciting and worth getting behind. We need a couple of grizzly, street-smart types in with this lot. Keep patience when they make mistakes, tolerate them when they try to do something different, and enjoy them cause there was a group of guys out there that clearly want to do their best for this football club, and that has not been the case for a while.

  17. Somebody said on Saturday after the Middlesbrough game, “on another day we would have lost that game”. Today was that “another day”. It just illustrates how tight the margins are in this league. Both Boro and Cov are decent sides. We are two or three experienced Championship players behind them, that’s all. I dislike losing as much as the next man, but you can see things are going in the right direction, which after last season, is something to hold on to.

  24. Not having anyone say he’s lucky to have the quality young players he has. He’s shown faith in them and they’ve repayed him. We’ve always had decent young players who just needed an opportunity. Alex Scott doesn’t get in a LJ team
    8 points
  25. Exactly that. Not that it's all about LJ......but if he had this current crop, Pring would probably have been sold to a L1/2 side, and there's no chance in hell that Ayman, Scott or Bell would be anywhere near the first team.

  26. Was absolutely gutted to hear the news Saturday morning Have known Ron for many years not just through football but personally too, such sad news especially as it was a sudden passing. He leaves behind a young daughter which is even sadder RIP

  27. Very much a hit for me. Obviously there are a few naysayers on here but to have someone with Nige’s football pedigree at the helm has been a relief and has filled me with confidence for our short to medium term future. We are in a ‘ing awful position financially and are incredibly lucky that he has taken the challenge on with such gusto. We are already seeing the changes he has brought about with style of play and crucially bringing the youngsters through and I just hope he gets the time that he needs. Good times ahead if so which, given our position when MA left is a minor miracle in footballing terms. I’m enjoying going to Ashton Gate again for the first time in a good while and that feeling is shared by my pals I go with who although don’t post on here would 100% agree. Cheers Nige!

  28. Have to say Dan Bentleys tweet after Saturday's game when he said something like "this is what football is all about" when a child ran on the pitch to get his shirt, was completely irresponsible. I don't know what's going on with him, he's already got into trouble with Pearson and been dropped, and it's like he's spoiling for another fight with the club. City need to sort this out because, quite simply, it sends out a bad precedent.

  29. Probably in the minority, but am enjoying the football & don’t feel anywhere near as flat as last season when we lost, it feels like we have much more drive & although it’s not an excuse for each game, just aren’t getting the luck

  30. HT 0-1 If Williams is fit for 45 mins, I'd bring him on for Benarous and let him sit in front of defence, freeing Scott and Massengo to work further forward.

  31. I`m loving this if I`m honest. We`re as good as safe so let the kids go out there and enjoy themselves with no pressure. If we lose. we lose - just play well and get those minutes under their belts.

  32. The best thing I can say about Nigel is I have absolutely no doubt in my mind we'll be in a far better place when he leaves than when he joined. Whether that's pushing for promotion to the Premier League or not is obviously far from clear - but he'll have put the foundations in place for it at least.

  33. He makes me sick. Exceptional footballer, slim, hair, on a decent wage and can move back to a tax haven when all said and done. He can and will go on to huge things. He's ahead of Massengo for me in terms of assets and potential. And I'm so old and bitter.
    6 points
  34. Get off Massengo's back here, he under hit a pass 70 yards from goals. We had enough to cover man for man and he ran all the way back tracking the man. Those passes happen 10 times a game and nothing comes of it except when we do it.

  35. Thought we looked decent for most of it. Fell asleep for the goal, but we’re the better side. til then

  37. Who knew that appointing a proven football manager, with experience in the top flight, would have stopped the rot, secured our Championship status, and provided green shoots of recovery?! All the while cultivating multi-million pound assets that will likely balance the books having contributed to an upswing in form.

  38. He's not perfect by any means...but has certainly done what you say. His biggest strength imo, is he's the perfect fit for the majority of City fans. In his personality and the way he goes about his business. He's similar to Cotterill in that respect ( who I couldn't stand), but I realised a great majority loved him. Like SC I get the impression he could ruffle the feathers of the owners at times...which imo is a good thing. The fans in main are behind him...and far more ' educated' as to our situation. I really do hope we can keep our young hot shots and get rid of the fodder in the summer...and replace with better. If so...the future looks a lot brighter.

  43. Despite the result and another late goal from our mistake I really enjoyed that. We looked after the ball so much better than usual and generally played well. A draw would have been a fairer reflection in a game between two well matched teams. Great support from the Red Army.
