  2. Having been away this weekend. I arrived into Portugal on friday evening to find out the news of this. Safe to say it hit hard very quickly, Martin was like an uncle to myself. He showed me compassion, care and kindness at a very hard period in my life , on not one but two occasions of mental health issues. He would often share a beer and a chat with myself. In which he would tell me stories about shadow williams , the late 60's . His trips down from Filton as a youngster . How he had family back home on the other side of the Rhonda and how he had a soft spot for "the taffs" as he would refer to me personally jokingly. However he also would state that he really wanted Wales to qualify for a world cup which made me smile! Memories such as visiting the midland pub in Derby ( the railway tavern) stopping off at a boozer in Beeston on two occasions. Visiting Hull on a friday night when we were already relegated followed by a random hunt for a "golden postbox" at 11 o clock at night will always be a personal favourite. Every year we would try and get together in the off season in Covent Garden for a beer to just see how each other were doing and i knew that he was only ever one phone call or text away. I may seem like i'm rambling but for me personally. He was truly the best of all of us, a stalwart of our football club and a true privilege and honour to know him as close as i did and without exaggerating, I'm not sure i would've made it to the point in my life i have today without him playing a part. you'll always be loved Tinners. Thank you for touching my life in a positive way. following City i genuinely feel will never be the same without you. Gone too soon. x

  3. My hat goes off to anyone like Mike Dean who can control a load of overpaid, diving, injury feigning, moaning, cheating prima Donna's. Plenty of managers can't.

  4. If I was Tammy. I’d stay in Roma the next 3 years. Don’t be too eager to jump back into the PL. Look at Lukaku

  5. Doesn't matter if you finish 1st, 3rd or go up via the play-offs - all those teams will start off as equals in League One next season.

  6. People would just pay last minute if you had prices the same all the way throughout. And I suspect some would plan to renew then not bother. Giving an incentive early doors gets cash rolling in at a time when cash flow is low (ie off season). Pretty simple and sensible really.

  7. Crazy really. That's barely more than we pay graduates at my software consultancy and they want "Extensive experience of professional football and performance analysis in a similar role". If I were at AG getting the best I could in these positions would be one of my top priorities. Do these things count against FFP? Either way it's dwarfed even by a novice player wage and arguably could have far more impact.

  8. Glass half full... the prices are reduced for those committing earlier. Normal prices thereafter.

  9. Not a huge fan of either but I think LJ always had the clubs best interests at heart, whereas MA had his own.

  10. The pioneer of the no-look yellow card. Celebrated on his own after a successful play-on led to a goal. Hid the match ball under his shirt after a Sergio Agüero hat-trick. Once said "off you pop" before sending off Lewis Dunk. First referee in history to brandish 100 red cards. Caught on TV standing on seats celebrating Tranmere Rovers' play-off win. 560 games, 11,876 fouls, 186 penalties, 2,046 yellow cards, 114 red cards, one Mike Dean. A legend of the English game retires.

  11. I was sat behind him at a restaurant in Benidorm about 6 years ago and he was with his wife having a meal. He seemed like a decent enough guy when a few people recognised him and asked for pictures. Being a referee is a bit of a thankless task to be fair and whilst we all like to give the "bloke in black" some abuse, i'm sure they are all doing the job with the best of intentions. He has always been a character and i think the Premier League will be a poorer place without him.

  12. Such sad news. A real gent. There was a spell around 8/9 years ago where I was going to the gate on my own and I'd usually go into what's now the Rising Sun for a drink beforehand. Without knowing the man personally beforehand, Tinners would always come over and have a 5/10 minute chat as I propped up at a table somewhere. I was going through such a tough patch at the time and i'd go as far as saying that without those little chats, I wouldn't be sure that I'd have continued to take myself down to the football. RIP Tinners

  13. 100%. The Post is amazing, if we are linked with a player like Horsfall this week the report will always damn with faint praise & then highlight a fault, Sykes was described as “inconsistent” when we signed him, last summer Rovers signed a bloke from Forest Green (Collins?) & he was honestly compared with Jack Grealish, it’s basically North Korean media levels.

  14. There seems to be an awful lot of love for this guy, some really moving and touching tributes, didn’t know him personally but it seems like we’ve lost a good ‘un

  15. Actually, you could, but you'd likely have a stiff neck and bump into a lot of things.

  22. There's definitely been a bias towards a certain club historically, that's over the 55 years I've been reading the EP and watching local news. Having a large editorial staff of Rovers supporters was a major reason at the EP, possibly the same but, also the underdog scenario gave them an easier ride with the other media and also the EP influencing other media sources. We also have to consider how the media works, tell the story about the biggest organisation with the biggest audience, in local football terms that's BCFC.

  23. click bait - nothing else We have a much bigger following and audience, if they can slip our name in somewhere it gets them more clicks

  25. Some fans seems to have an obsession with both. I actually wish LJ all best, think he really wanted to succeed with us. Not so much MA but that's put to bed now.
    3 points
  26. Agreed. Refs get dogs abuse constantly, and increased media and technology means every detail can be scrutinised. I wasn’t his biggest fan myself but I wouldn’t fancy the job.
    3 points
  27. If we captured LJ and Ashton on CCTV throwing a bag of kittens into a canal then there’d be a lot of people on here saying that LJ was forced into doing it by MA. I think it’s probable that the source of all the LJ supporters evidence comes from LJ’s camp anyway. Make if that what you will… but the regularity with which we see Webster and Brownhill singled out as LJ’s only two picks is just laughable.

  28. Never forgiven him, along with Peter Ndlovu and Trevor Francis, for robbing us blind against Birmingham in 1999.

  29. Was football ‘better’ in the 70s? I’m I not so sure but then it was half a century ago and age and memories can fade over time. Obviously those of us that were around in the 70s were significantly younger than now and thru a young man’s eyes things always seemed fantastic back then - but was it really? Standing in the EE with its crap view and gruesome bogs didn’t matter. It was just being there amongst like minded souls that made the day so exciting. Somehow the actual style of play was secondary or even tertiary but now it really matters to me. Refereeing has definitely changed and some would say for the worse and the Madeleys, Bremners, Gows and Hunters of those days wouldn’t be on the pitch for long now. Have the referees sanitised game so much that they detract from the entertainment of the beautiful game?……… Not for me. I enjoy different elements on a matchday than I did 50+ years ago. It’s just me getting older………

  30. I made the mistake of reading one of their articles. Headline - "Bristol City supporter banned..........." Content - Two Bristol Rovers supporters banned, one Bristol City supporter banned (and one Bournemouth fan) I was not able to find reference to this article in the Rovers section of the site., It is currently the top article in the City section. Bias or what?

  36. Find it mad how poorly paid not playing staff wages are in elite football/sport. Bristol Sport big offenders with that from my understanding. Sort of doesn’t add up with the ‘we want good people in our business’ jargon they keep spouting.

  44. Don’t mind admitting I’m a bit obsessed with Ashton, but mainly the financial implications his reign left us with. Some people you don’t take to. I’ve met MA twice. My impression is that he wants to be a footballer. He wasn’t good enough, became an administrator in football and leached a lot of money out of football in the process of trying to make himself be more important than the footballers themselves. LJ - I met twice. Personable guy, heart in it, did some good stuff, did some crap stuff. I don’t think MA and LJ were a good combo for each other. I look forward to how LJ does at Hibs. I hope Ashton does terribly at Ipswich and is finally seen through.

  45. Enjoyed both post season podcasts Dave , particularly the first one with Chris Honor And Neil (Found it a really excellent and interesting listen with all making excellent points - Neil’s point about lack of assists from wing backs , the views on our defending , and Kalas , and their discussion about formation preferences spring to mind) Thought they were an excellent combo and probably the most sensible , interesting , and thought provoking FBC Pod for the season - Thanks - well recommended to anyone who hasn’t listened Fair Play to Gary Owers for being brave enough to express his views re Josh (Would be easier to duck anything about him) - and I would agree with him

  46. Sales technique to get as many people as possible to buy earlier rather than later The club has much less income over the summer months so having this money in at the start of the summer greatly helps all other costs that continue
