  1. England vs Scotland women has been an enjoyable watch.
  2. Or is he more Hall and Oates?
  3. True that, didn't we average getting on for 2,000 away in GJ's play-off season? After so many years in the third tier, I think a lot of us were tempted to travel far more than normal, which is understandable and natural behaviour whoever you support.
  4. Yes mate, I'd love to hear that one belted out. Start it off on Tuesday night!
  5. They really are too funny aren't they? I wonder whether it's possible for the hilarity to increase to such an intensity that it reaches critical mass and, like dark matter, collapses in on itself in a comedy implosion, and just suddenly stops being funny any more? I do hope not.
  6. A great book. Surreally, Kevin Mabbutt owned the movie rights at one time, though I don't think he was ever able to find the backing to get it made, sadly.
  7. No idea what you're getting at here. Cardiff have no history to speak of, any more than we do. Two of my oldest friends are Cardiff City fans and I can assure you they would take a Steve Lansdown equivalent - a locally born and bred rich bloke who has the interests of the football club at heart, rather than chasing profit - over Vincent Tan, in a heartbeat. If such a person exists in Cardiff. But the truth is, Steve Lansdown equivalents are few and far between, for most clubs
  8. What the f@**??! You've blown my teenage world apart, and rather upset my Tuesday evening!
  9. Peter Mellor might agree with you. Ruddy, on the other hand, would probably be relieved to have been playing in front of the South Stand, rather than the East End.
  10. "I'm not in a position to comment on this, but I can say that Bristol was quite a racist city until quite recently". What the actual ****? I'm starting to believe you actually might be Joey Barton. If you were from Bristol, you would be only too well aware that our city as a whole is one of the most inclusive and progressive in the country. Although sadly, the Blue Few do rather let the rest of us down, what with being a bunch of daft old racists and that.
  11. So pleased to find you're still here, my friend! Though I suspect our many Rovers visitors who read the thread daily (hiya!!) will be desperate for you to stop embarrassing them. From our perspective though, please stay! Anyway, without getting into the Danny Baker discussion (he is as passionate an anti-racist as he is an anti-royalist), you'll be well aware, no doubt, of Rovers' history as the perennial right-wing bigots of Bristol football, famously hosting the National Front selling its newspaper at home games. Meanwhile, conversely, the distinctly anti-racist Socialist Worker was on sale at City in the early 90s.
  12. Oh do keep up, dear. He's never, for anyone, been the drummer from Bros, just a successful businessman and freelance keyboard player. FFS we've talked about this!
  13. Your lack of awareness and detachment from reality are actually quite endearing. Scott Davidson, like the Dunfords, was/is a respected and successful local business man. As a sideline, he also happens to be a very talented session musician (keyboard player, by the way) who has worked with some incredible artists like the Pet Shop Boys, as well as some of lesser repute (they all pay good money though!). I'm pretty sure Davidson's wealth was considerably greater than the Dunfords', though in business terms, Steve Lansdown is in a different stratosphere than any of the aforementioned, or than the new Rovers chap. I hope this clarifies.
  14. I'm reminded of a memory association technique I came up with for a girlfriend, many years ago go for remembering stadium names. Genuine, I'm not even joking, this honestly happened! To recall the name of Charlton Athletic's home ground: Charlton > Charlton Heston > Heston (sounds like) > vest and pants > pants - skid marks > The Skids > Into The Valley > Charlton Athletic play at The Valley! Probably best I don't share the one about Scunthorpe and their 'Gland'ford Park, it was even more tenuous and definitely won't get through the swear filter ?
  15. The comfort and the joy of feeling lost, with the only living boy in New Cross.
  16. I'm reminded of some mad nights in the Brunel wine bar, early noughties, with Sam and her coterie. Let's just say Clifton Village's 'genteel and classy' reputation was tested to the limit at times. A certain Keith Valle was also on the scene, but that's another story.
  17. Stranger from another club, welcome to our hole Just strap on your guitar, and we'll play some rocknroll...
  18. Collier to Coventry? The answer - of course - is to sign them all up to 10 year contracts. Pretty sure nothing can possibly go wrong there.
  19. Totally different. City have sold our best players countless times over the years and we've always got over it. Nearly all clubs do. But we've never sabotaged our entire future and sold our kids down the river forever. Only one nation has ever done that to itself ?
  20. Absolutely smokin' blues from Grinderswitch, John Peel's theme tune. Never heard of 'em? Well for anyone who grew up listening to the Peel show (10 til midnight, Monday to Thursday on Radio 1) those opening few bars evoke so much. Opening monologue would invariably be something along the lines of: "Good evening boys and girls, on tonight's show, sessions from Einsturtzende Neubauten and Killing Joke, [something about Liverpool in Europe, and probably a reference either to Kenny Dalglish or Bill Shankley], but first, these are the Fall..." #ReveredUncleJohnny
  21. FFS, how embarrassing? Is he Rovers top boy? Scary.
  22. Right, here's what I don't get about this whole thread... for the whole 47 years I've been going to City games, the Saturday matches have been kicking off at 3pm, roughly half way between lunchtime and dinnertime, (or dinnertime and teatime, as we used to call it when I were a lad). So my question for you all is, why do you need food when you go to football on Saturday? It's totally between meal times, isn't it?! Can we not wait a couple of hours?
