The analogy doesn’t work as you obviously saw a path to success and the riches that come with it. If Conway stays they won’t come to him. There is no sign he will get promoted with us

Or he stays with us , improves, and grabs the attention of bigger clubs than the Bournemouth’s of this world. We THEN sell , getting more than we would for a raw talent now , and he gets a fatter contract with a top club.

What the @@@@ is wrong with that, because if Tommy shines next season, playing in our first team as opposed to Bournemouth’s bench , they certainly will come to him.

There is a bigger picture out there for those willing to look up ⚽😊⚽😊✔️

Pretty much everything about the Prem is shit.

I know that many want us to get there but having seen us play 4 seasons of top flight football in my life (a totally different, fairer world), I’m genuinely not bothered about joining that circus.

Each August we start a new season, it would be nice to try to win the league, or promotion, otherwise there really is little point,

Well I know what I’d do if i was him, same as I moved employer last year for a pay rise and promotion.  It’s a short career so can’t see him turning down more money elsewhere

So any of our players should just grab the first higher offer at the very first opportunity, or , perhaps , as a club we should stand for what is the right thing for us , show some ambition and leadership, and actually TRY to win something?

Using your analogy, I had an opportunity to change employer for a higher wage, decided that there was a real opportunity where I was , stayed, ended up an equity Partner, and that proved to be a very good decision. There is more to life than next week’s pay packet. And Bournemouth 😊

Why would Tommy stay if someone is offering to pay, say, double what he is on now? Or even 50% more?

He can move, get a big pay rise AND boost his wage demands further still for his next contract

Because by playing, and improving his profile he has every opportunity of getting a better offer from a bigger club. In other words, backing himself, and getting to eat his Mum’s dinners.

  5. Tommy Conway is a promising young player who has not yet fully reached his potential, it is surely in both Tommy’s and the Club’s interest for him to stay , in order to (a) have plenty of playing time, (b) boost his value and of course wage demands, (c) help the club to push for promotion, and increase the number and quality of potential suitors, (d) send a message to potential new signings that City are serious about promotion and are not simply a selling club treading water.

Sadly we had the same debate last year over Alex Scott, and I predicted we would have this debate this year over Tommy. Conway is a young Bristol lad, who’s family and friends I assume are all local to this area, City have made him a first team starter, and will, we know, release him if a big offer came in. Why then would he not wait another year to establish himself, help his home city club , and boost his value both personally and to the club. There is no need for City or Tommy to simply grab the first offer , you know it will be Bournemouth, that comes along.

Big win for Plymouth.  Looks like 2 out of Hudds, Sheff W and Brum going down now

And Blackburn , away trips to Leeds and Leicester remaining.

  7. As an exile (East Sussex) my only moan is that as I can’t realistically make evening games it is not worth my while buying a season ticket, this increasingly means I miss out on away games (Plymouth is a currently example) as they often sell out before Members get an opportunity to buy.Never use to be much of a problem but has occurred a lot more over the last two or three seasons.

Not sure what the answer is , perhaps if we keep playing crap , then less people will want to go , and problem solved 😊⚽

Turning 40 last year really put into perspective just how little City has given me over the years. Four decades of bouncing between the second and third tiers for a club our size is just so depressing. One notable cup run.

I look at fans of other clubs and I’m jealous of the journeys they have been on. Swansea made their way through the leagues and played in Europe. Luton have made it all the way from lowly divisions. Huddersfield, Blackpool, Barnsley, Bournemouth and even Swindon have tasted top flight football. Bradford, Portsmouth and Cardiff have all made it to a cup final. Some of these clubs have suffered since, but at least they’ve had genuinely exciting periods.

I actually think we must be one of the dullest clubs to support in the entire league. I think you could reasonably say that City fans of my generation have seen the least achievement against potential and expectation of ANY set of fans in the entire country. I’m really fed up with it!

Is there any club out there more dull than us when you consider size and potential?

No.There isn’t. In my case it’s 58 years , with only two notable seasons.

The way I look at it is that I have a wonderful wife , lovely kids and now grandsons, good health and am financially comfortable in retirement . It’s been a good life, but no one gets it all , so if there is going to be a f@#k up in my life , better City than any of the above ☝️

COYRs, and please don’t flog off what little talent we have left in the summer. See you all in August

There's no way Tommy signs a new contract even if we sack Manning, even if Pearson was still here. He's highly ambitious and he'll want to achieve his goals of playing at the highest level possible whether that's signs for Rangers or Celtic getting European football, somehow a PL club signing him as a squad player or signing for one of the bigger Championship teams who'll help him by utilising his skill set better then we are all of which help his chances of getting to the Scotland senior squad or the PL more than signing a new contract here, the reality frankly is that Tommy will be gone in the summer.

I feel a more Positive Mental Attitude would benefit your life greatly. Let’s hope we win tonight. COYRs.

PS You are making a lot of assumptions about Tommy’s ambitions and immediate plans , none of which you can possibly know. As to my hopes , they are also unknown as I don’t know Tommy’s wishes for now , but what I do know is that the club should at least try.Is that too much to ask ?

And I’d agree with not selling if the player in question (Conway) didn’t only have 1 year left on his contract after this season, we won’t want to lose him for compensation as it’s highly unlikely we’d be in position to compete for play offs next season so gambling and keeping Tommy is unlikely to do anything other than lose us a good few million we could reinvest.

You still don’t get it, there is no “us” , do you personally feel richer now that Alex has gone, did you check your trouser pockets for £28M before putting them in the wash ?

Won’t be different when they flog Bristol born &bred Tommy, or Knight , or Roberts or any of this window’s purchases, you won’t be any richer and we will still be a mediocre Championship (or L1) team.

Tommy is still raw , get him to sign a new contract, and develop him further. He is young, his family and friends are here in Bristol and he is getting first team action. Not that difficult a sell, if you have a desire to be better

We were never holding onto Scott, you deny him a move to the PL given the level of interest he had and the fees we would have been offered you'd have pissed him off no end, I don't think Alex would have been the type to down tools but you run that risk, equally his sale put a good cushion in our finances which obviously would have been nice for Nige to have been allowed to spend but was equally almost neccessary, Conway you don't have the length of contract that Scott had and I don't see the squad in a position where keeping Conway around (regardless of who head coach is) that pushes us into being a top 6 team. Also how well would our medical department have dealt with Alex's injury he had early season?

Same old , same old. After Scott last year ( Semenyo scored again) , Conway this , who do you fancy next , how about Knight.
    And the club goes nowhere.

Our medical team are fine as far as I know, but who knows , perhaps we can get a few bob for them too

Realism is a thing, if we want to get a fee for Conway, rather than compensation which won’t be much and minimal if he went to Scotland, then he needs to be sold this summer as he won’t be signing a new deal

Change “Conway” to “Scott” and you could cut and paste this whole paragraph in to last year’s debate on here about Alex. And that as worked well, hasn’t it!!!!

Using this logic, we never progress, sometimes you need some balls ⚽⚽⚽

  13. Personally I think it is the level of away support throughout the leagues that make English Football special. I like a good away crowd for the atmosphere that that provokes the home crowd to respond to. Should the away crowd shout loud and proud , then I feel we should not try and restrict them, but rather respond to them. We do , quite simply have the numbers.
