For myself, I’ve been away all week with work so have only been dipping in and out of the forum and didn’t see much traffic. I assumed it was end of season malaise.

I've already switched off until August. I am looking forward to the post Rotherham pub crawl through Hotwells though, followed by a curry. That's the match days experience I can get out of bed for.

I personally hope the numbers are terrible tbh. I know a few are banging the drum but short of not renewing, an action taken by some but possibly not as many as one or two think it might be (we'll see), it's the only way those who want to attend have of saying "look hierarchy, we really aren't happy with the way you are running things, this is your warning shot". I am not criticising anyone for renewing immediately, it's your choice, but I think it is a missed opportunity because you are handing Jon and Brian all the ammo they need to feel vindicated and that you support everything they've done. If you do, that's fair enough and of course you would renew immediately but if you don't I find the immediate renewal odd tbh.

The club apologists completely fail to read the room in that if this continues for the next 12 months alongside a few daft kick off times the club will genuinely lose THOUSANDS rather than hundreds of season ticket holders. The situation is that grave for me. Put it this way my warning shot is exactly that and they are only getting one. First time since I've stopped playing football nearly twenty years ago that I am not renewing unconditionally. Strings attached now. Loads of other grounds I can visit on a Saturday, catch up with people and enjoy what is on offer and if the Binary Ball continues I might even start missing a few of ours and going elsewhere next season anyway.

My step-father used to be Hailsham Town's Treasurer so I'd go to a few games.  A day out there was always a blast where it is my mates keeping me going to City right now.

I won't be leaving it until the very last day because the way the club are going out of their way to deceive and antagonise fans at the moment I could easily envisage a system crash on the last day. How Bristol City (Bristol Sport Lansdown Era) FC would that be?

That's a good point actually, I'll bring it forward a week

I think what you’re not understanding (possibly willingly here) is what fans can do and are emotionally able to do.

Yes, not renewing sends a message. And the biggest possible one. But for people City are a social lifeline, a sense of identity and the place where they belong. For people like me, and others, if we can renew financially, not doing so isn’t an option - it’s what I do with my kids and I’ll be ****ed if the Lansdowns, Tinnion and Manning will take that away from me.

So, yeah, I’ll wait until the last minute to renew. Because it’s what I have without harming myself.

And from the looks of it, a lot of people are in that boat.

Precisely what I am doing. Last day renewal.

Every time I get frustrated and upset about our lack of progress up the leagues, I remind myself that the ‘norm’ for many years for me was to watch us bumping along in the old Div 3 season after season, playing the likes of Grimsby, Tranmere or Mansfield on a wet weeknight.
The weather hasn’t improved much, but our league average attainment thankfully has.

Was the football perhaps more entertaining though? That feels important to me.

    Completely understand this point.

But just occasionally, thus being one such time, I think there's things bigger and more important than that.

Each to their own. I genuinely admire your ability to sit through such dross.

Can't tell you the amount of times sat there this season where I've daydreamt about sitting in the City bar for the second half.

Exactly the same for me. If I have an Over 50's game on a Sunday that clashes with a City game then City come second, simple as that. My gut feel, as I've said before is that many will wait until late but ultimately renew and we'll be hundreds down rather than thousands.......unless the worst is yet to come THIS SEASON (I don't see that happening though) and then they really will be thousands down, a number of thousands down.

I'd say this is pretty accurate to how things will play out.

I know I will renew , I may think hard about it , I may wait until late on , but I will renew.

It took Lansdown making our seats Corporate and more than doubling the price for me to step away previously.
The problem is I do miss the social side, I have had mates who came for a drink before games, I can't do that and just go home . Plus I love the away day when we go in a group .

That said it isn't a million miles away from not bothering . More shit football , poor leadership , price rises , kit bollox etc and it will come .

    Me in a nutshell.

They can bullshit all they like, they will know what is actually happening. It might be that we DO have 10K that will unconditionally buy a season ticket as soon as possible. If so then fine, won't be changing my stance on account of it though.

I'll be buying mine last minute.com

  10. I got heat for saying I'd renew a few days back but I will be. The only reason is that I have friends I go/sit with and more I see after the game. Football is a valued part of my social life (even though the game itself offers almost nothing of late). I'm not sure i would otherwise, instead opting for a membership.

The difference now, is that I'll rarely be declining invites for other things this coming season, should they clash with a game. In the past the match would come first.

    Good response.

On a totally different subject, and in reference to your username, I wonder how many on here have read the book.

Nice spot. Such a great book. One I read years ago and the name - with slight spelling adjustment - stuck.

That post was in response to another that brought up the academy.

And with respect, this is a public forum -all relevant discussion is allowed - there are no rules that say other things can’t be discussed in a thread - just ask the pun producers.

If you don’t want to discuss one part of thread, just skim over it.

I didn't say any of that. I agree with with you but thought the post I responded to referred to only how to improve communications.

All good. Full respect to all.

You do realise that when a player comes through our academy and is sold on, that is down to numerous individuals within the club, not just being 'nursed' by Brian Tinnion, right?

Also we are judging comms ability here, nothing else.

our fan base is a lot more patient than some others clubs eg. Beale at Sunderland classic example.

People aren’t expecting us to be Barcelona, but we look more like Braintree at the moment and that’s where the frustration comes from. That’s before you even factor in the lies about top 6 squads and proclamations of front foot football.

Crucially, the football is boring. This is not good.  I was away on Mother's Day duty yesterday and not at all bothered. Been going since 1989.

Anyone else think the attendance will be fairly low compared to normal?  With Mother’s Day and the midday kickoff assume a fair few might stay away. Recent performances haven’t helped either

Funnily enough, I'm in Wales visiting my Mum for Mother's Day, a mate who sits next to me has gone down with Covid and another mate, so disheartened at the moment was debating not going, so that's 0 out of 3 of us attending.

  16. 'There's a real good feeling in the stadium'

Bloody hell. He's having a laugh. Seeing Williams saying sorry at the end of the last home match but being met with a lot of fans waiting to tell him and others to '**** off' was indicative of the 'good feeling' in the ground.

What has happened to wingers in the Prem and Championship.

They get the ball and if the fullback is within 10 yards they play inside or backwards. A good winger, if he is not tackled before getting the ball under control should be able to take on and beat his man 40% of the time when he only has 1 marker. Even if he gets a throw further up the pitch it's OK.

A lot of the excitement used to come from these unpredictable tricksters.

It seems now that is totally coached out of them and unless they get the ball with 25 yards of space in front of them they play it safe.

The best way to disrupt a well organised defence is to beat 1 player and run at the defence.

One thing of beauty was to watch Alex Scott receive the ball under pressure and simple breeze past his marker. How many free kicks did we get and chances came about due to the chaos it caused.

I just find our style of play so b***dy boring.

Mark Gavin and Dave Smith going at defenses either side of the pitch. Nothing more exciting.

  18. It all boils down to one thing for me. I am utterly bored at Ashton Gate these days. The football really is total, unentertaining rubbish. I've many other, more complex feelings about the club and it's stagnation but this is my main takeaway.

If it wasn't for the great friends that I meet up with each week - and we've managed to have a good afternoon despite City's best efforts - I'd be doubtful to attend.

I had complex feelings booing Manning and the players on their walkabout at full time but I had to go through with it because the club needs to know how I feel. While you can't blame the players for being asked to play a certain way, I nevertheless, counted 3 occasions where players lost the ball and just gave up with a sigh. It's not acceptable and well might Williams apologise on behalf of the squad.

And perhaps painting the roof cladding on the Dolman aswell whilst they are at it, still amazed that this was not done when the rebuild was complete to be honest.

Any aerial photo you see of the ground the faded Dolman roof looks ridiculous.

I think they did this once, if memory serves. It might have been one poor coat though as its definitely faded now. The back of the Dolman still looks fresh.

  20. The steel work above all stands bar the Dolman is dirty and needs a wash and a paint job. I never understand why it doesn't get done every summer. And the ground level panelling around the outside of the Lansdown is poor also, featuring areas where you can see they've scoured off marks etc. Inside the ground Ashton Gate looks impressive, outside, you see how a still impressive stadium upgrade can be done on the relative cheap in comparison with something like Spurs'new stadium.

I take pride in our ground. It does matter.
