Football teams not named after where they play

Levante play in Valencia. Technically they are named after where they play as I believe Levante is the name used to cover eastern Spain. But it's certainly not the name of the city they play in.

    Kasey's Song

I thought it originated from Man Utd fans when they had Owen Hargreaves back in 07/08 time. Probably wrong but it works well though, not surprised it's been adopted so many times.
  3. It's pretty simple granted, but I actually prefer being a part of that than most others. If a large number of fans around the ground were to join in with that like they do with some of the standard songs, I think it would be far more impressive than the norm. That being said, as long as it's not that 'and that's the way we like it' chant that every club in football seems to have adopted, I don't really care what we're singing (to a degree...) as long as it's loud.

    Nine nil in a semi

    Heybridge Swifts was a 7-0 I think. Must've been early 00's.

Dale Vince Statement about Bolton. (Merged)

What have I just read . Reads like a drunken rant more than anything else!

Mark Ashton Q and A with Geoff Twentyman

To be fair, a large number of the duff signings have been loans which are always going to be a risk. When you look at the signings we've actually paid a fee for under LJ, it's pretty decent.

    Stadium Quiz

32/40 for the second one. Really struggled with the 3rd quiz of the 4. Some real tough ones in there, less giveaways with the kits too - more misleading than anything!

    Stadium Quiz

19/20 for the first one, just Middlesbrough I failed with. Struggled with a couple of others but there were clues in the pictures. I miss some of the old grounds and their distinguishing features. The Dell and the Vetch being most notable with their odd stands. It's funny how you might have never been to these places and some have gone through some incredible redevelopment but you can still see the shell through it.

There's probably a slightly more simple reason in that the standard of refereeing somehow gets even worse as you look down the divisions. But that's not as much fun.

It's not just about the red cards either - penalties are the worst. About 9-10 years ago, one of my gashead colleagues used to always have a joke about it. He used to say that as they had no one that could actually shoot, their strikers would spend 90% of their time on the ball running around in the penalty area until they got fouled.
  11. I think a lot of people forget that whilst they aren't the great side they once were, they still finished second in the Premier League last season. Second only to one of the best sides that league has seen.
  12. We had a dress down day in work as it was the last day we were in before Christmas. For once, it gave me great pleasure walking around in a City shirt. Especially after all the Man Utd 'fans' in the office had been begging me for tickets in the build up.

    Dele Alli

The finish was lovely. I liked the way he gave it back. Didn't get too wound up and just reminded them of the score. Sometimes that'll wind up the fans even more. Looked like he got under Granit Xhaka's skin shortly after also (not like that's very difficult but still). He wasted a bit of time and tucked the ball into the net after being flagged offside and Xhaka squared up to him as a result, dangerous move on a yellow card. To be fair to him, there was still water in that bottle so I imagine it hurt a bit coming from that distance. It looked like it came from a few rows back.

    Bobby Reid

I noticed that he seems to start in the tougher fixtures but not as much in the fixtures that *should* be easier. Thought I'd check it out to see if I was just imagining it but it does seem to be the case. Here are the games he's started so far this season: Liverpool A, Chelsea A, Man City H, Arsenal H, Leicester H, Fulham H (scored), Bournemouth A. He's not started against: Newcastle H, Huddersfield A, Burnley H, Spurs A, Brighton H, Wolves H, West Ham A, Southampton H, Watford A (came on to score). Considering the way Cardiff like to play, those home fixtures, specifically the ones against teams near the bottom are some of the only games that they'll likely try and have a real go so you may excuse him for not hitting the ground running. In any other team in the PL, I'd expect him to have a few more goals by now.

I have a very small level of sympathy for him. He has clearly been shafted by the owners. He was made promises when they chucked him a new contract but maybe he was as deluded as the fans to believe it. Feels like last resort for him to try and get all the fans on side by diverting some of the blame to the owners, if they don't sack him or at very least come out and clear up after this it just proves that they either don't have the money to sack him or they simply don't care about the club enough/at all. If this was happening at City I'd want Clarke out anyway. The guy looks broken. How can you possibly trust him to motivate anyone, especially the crap bunch of players he has at his disposal.
