  1. You should know all of us on FBC never sugar coat any discussion topic
  2. If I may say Henry, you're being a rather pompous ass with that remark. As a pensioner I can be forgetful - please remind me when you did and I will look it up or you can state it again on here
  3. I hope we can muster 2 or 3 points from the two away games and progress to the 3rd of the Carabao. If we don't its going to be carnage on here
  4. I agree we have enough to stay in the League. Having read the interview with Nigel in the Sunday Times today [he was with the journo in Scozzi in Clevedon Monday evening] and featured in another thread on here, I think he could well call it a day anyway - there appears to be more to his life than football and there's that bucket list to achieve which he alludes to in the article as "you never know how long you've got". He's 60 tomorrow and at 67 myself I know what he means!!
  5. No place for Vyner then or are you assuming he's off before the window shuts?
  6. I'll take that backhanded compliment!! Happy to be a guest presenter and I'm sure Matt Withers of 3Peaps would be as well, but you can't please everyone .... see below Thanks @Henry, I guess you mean me which shows you can't please everyone. Would be good to understand what element of my approach has brought the dreadful comment
  7. You are right Dave in saying recruitment isn't one-dimensional but it is certainly 2 with the loan market being just that. As the OP I quoted Nigel from his piece with Bristol Live which suggests he might be modifying his stance on loans viz. avoiding clutter when injured players become available again for selection. Were we a bit premature in letting Seb P-H go out on loan. He offers that "something different" up front and could be no less impactful coming off the bench in the manner Yeboah has?
  8. Listen on Podbean : https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/b-ham-city-h-the-verdict-as-bad-a-performance-as-parky-s-infamous-meg-ryan-interview/, plus Spotify, Google & Apple Watch on Twitter: https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1OwxWwXRVLkxQ It wasn't so much the defeat as the manner of the performance which has set the alarm bells ringing for the FBC quartet [DaveP, Neil, Ian & Mark] who will by some on OTIB be seen as being in a typically bed-wetting meltdown after only 3 games. The next 12 days WILL shape our season particularly if there is no transfer activity to address the negatives that were glaring highlighted in yesterdays game. 3 shots on target in 3 games simply isn't good enough - we need sharpness in front of goal and the guile to create decent chances. The loan market has to be the option as, to quote Nigel himself in the Bristol Live post-match analysis, when the likes of Atkinson, Conway & McCrorie eventually return we want the flexibility to return the reinforcements rather than have the squad "cluttered" by their presence. I can only describe the behaviour of our "owner" at present as verging on bizarre and whilst I see Nigel being under no pressure in the short term that situation might need reviewing by the time we get to the 2nd international break in mid-October; there is, IMHO, no bond between the two most important people at the club and as for our new CEO .... who??
  9. SL didn't mention "manager" when reflecting on the positives
  10. I recall that interview and very same comment you refer to. Nige described our recruitment policy under LJ as bonkers and SL does not like personal criticism. If he had any respect for Nige he'd have a one year contract extension on the table now. FWIW I think SL already has his finger on the trigger and the ice will be thin for Nige if we're less than 1 PPG by the 2nd international break.
  11. IMHO that £4.75M fine imposed on them in 2018 [?] is a small price to pay when you look at the rewards of "going for it". When Lansdown relaxed the purse strings a little [not going for it big time like Wolves & AFCB] he failed because he placed his faith in LJ & MA. If you include ground improvements as well as funding losses SL has poured 1/3rd of £Billion into this club - some have achieved a lot more for a lot less!
  12. Also on Spotify, Google, Apple : https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/oxford-utd-review-knight-brace-shows-there-is-life-after-scott/ No sooner had the dust settled on City’s emphatic win over Oxford there was news coming through which the fans had been dreading for weeks that being the departure of Alex Scott to Premier league Bournemouth. Ian, Neil & DaveP discuss the game which banished the negative thoughts in the wake of the disappointing season opener vs. Preston. Knight playing in a more advanced role looked a very different player to the one presenting a stuttering performance on Saturday. Mehmeti showed some nice touches and control in his game. Wells showed his striking prowess which will be needed in Conway’s absence. On top of this we witnessed a sparkling debut from Roberts who will push Pring hard in the months ahead for a place in the starting line-up. And what of Scott’s departure. It is galling that it’s to little Bournemouth, but one has to use that terms when you look at how far down the pyramid they were a little over 10 years ago. He’ll link up with Kelly & Semenyo where success will be simply managing to stay in the division. We talk about what if any of the money will be spent in the next 21 days. Might Nigel move away from his rigid stance towards the loan market? Someone this episode will make it 150k downloads since we started in June 2020 – thanks to you all for your support
  13. LJ in big trouble north of the border - Hibs 0-2 down at home after 20 mins vs. St. Mirren
  14. His agent has had 6 months to better or equal our offer - either no one is prepared to take a risk due to his injury record or he's just not trying hard enough. With Kalas's international pedigree you'd think he'd be a relatively cheap option for a Saudi team who all seem to be spending money like confetti!!!
  15. Listen here: https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/preston-north-end-h-review-he-takes-a-mean-long-throw/ [also on Google, Spotify etc.] After all the pre-season euphoria for most City fans who’ve been supporting the club for many years it was no surprise that when cometh the hour as a team the lads certainly didn’t cometh the man. DaveP hosts a review of the game with Chief GrInch Ian Gay and the more balanced [?] opinions Neil Sutton.& Mark Tovey. We began by talking about the positives that could be drawn from matchday 1. What lessons were learnt, what line up will Nigel start against Oxford on Wednesday and with 3 of the next 4 away before the international break will City muster enough points to say it’s a decent start to the season FWIW I don't feel our content in this episodes is massively at odds with what I see from the majority of threads on here since 5 PM yesterday.
  16. Thanks for the positive feedback. who was "flashy on You Tube"?
  17. Season No. 57 for me personally and I'm predicting a not to shabby 10th place. These two episodes are available on all the usual platforms or by clicking the links below. If you want to avoid the predictable bombasity of Ian Gay who joined me for the piece with Paul then jump straight to Gary's with the more measured input of Neil Sutton. https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/season-2324-preview-with-paul-cheesley-ian-gay/ https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/season-2324-preview-with-gary-owers-neil-sutton/ Both recorded pre-Pompey
  18. You missed the praise of Gould. Ashton & Phil are opposite ends of that spectrum.
  19. Who am I talking about? It's none other than Phil Alexander our Chief Executive. One could be forgiven for thinking he's gone missing in action as the silence is deafening from the pinnacle of non-Lansdown family officialdom within the club. We became used to the self-aggrandizement of Mark Ashton and, in stark contrast, Richard Gould brought a calm assuredness to the role that you wouldn't find any detractors from the firm opinion that off the field the club appeared in good hands. As things stand right now I feel on the field is fine, although let's review that come September 2 - we'll be 5 games in & hopefully in Round 3 of the Carabao as we enter the first international break. Am I right in my opinion that the fanbase feels that off the field the club appear a little out of touch with us? The "kit" situation appears worthy of some degree of communication from the club - stick on badges, socks not matching, no away shirt. There's clearly something not right going on behind the scenes. Add to this the multi-branding that appears to be going on. The new badge took some getting used to but I quite like it but how long before the HPC has a larger than life Splatted Robin stuck on the cladding you can see from the road. I may have missed it but has there been a word of thanks achieving 14k in season ticket sales in a cost of living crisis? I may be jumping the gun and next week there may well be some pre-season communique from the club. Steve may have a few words to say on Radio Bristol before PNE or put out a video on Robins TV? I'd just like a bit more output from Phil in a manner that shows we've hired a former Premier League CEO of the year, not someone drawing a salary in the 5 years before retirement who's opting to keep his head below the parapet rather than engage in potentially contentious discussions with fans and media. He's clearly a very nice chap and has few detractors on the Palace forum as you can see here: https://www.cpfc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=286479 . However, this reply to a message I placed on their forum when he was announced as new CEO suggests maybe O'Neills might be down to him not Jon? Highly respected amongst his peers at other clubs, did a lot amongst the Croydon business community too. Lovely guy, however also carried the nickname 'Teflon Phil' amongst our fans, because he was here both times we went into Administration (in 2000, and again in 2010). He's good at finding major sponsorship deals, brokering kit deals, maximising hospitality revenue etc. He won't be identifying player talent or anything like that. But your club will be very lean and efficient commercially.
  20. I would suggest he hasn't. I would be surprised if the offer City made to him in January remains on the table. If it does, what if he rocks up to the HPC on Monday for the first time this summer and says OK chaps I've nothing else so I have signed would Nigel welcome him back into the group? As a footballer it has to be a yes but it's not a good look and he'll be way behind the others on match fitness so unlikely to be available until after the first international break.
  21. I hope Wade Elliott does as well as he can do there with limited resources. Dumped by Johnson in 2016 when his experience would have been invaluable. Perceived as a threat by LJ?
  22. You're right. He's "off" the payroll as of 31 July? Some have said about Pearson applying double standards on the "on the bus" policy in relation to how Kalas is being treated compared with HNM but Kalas is a better defender when fit than HNM is a midfielder and that might explain it. If Kalas does end up staying I don't care how good his unattached training regime is he won't be up to Championship fitness levels
  23. You would have thought by now that if he were that good another club would have made an offer at the very least in line with ours.
  24. I agree and in a normal workplace the optics of that aren't great. Kalas is at a different stage of career compared to Taylor Moore who took a pay cut but wanted to prove himself with a career that had many years left in. When Weimann took his pay-cut in the aftermath of his long term ACL injury he couldn't , in his wildest dreams, have expected to have the best season [21/22] of his career. Is he going to join the long list of players who cost the club a fee to leave for nothing next summer. Nahki has handled himself impeccably the whole time he has been here - sensible over his contract, didn't moan when he was left out of the team / played out of position, and been a good role model for the youngsters - how much of Tommy Conway's development is down to him?
