  1. Agree with this ... what a night after so many years waiting!
  2. I know it is goals that count, but that feels a bit tough on us at the moment!
  3. This and the Semi Final 2nd leg against Hereford remain 2 of my favourite ever games.
  4. Didn't know him personally but remember him from away games late 80's and early 90's. RIP
  5. This ... remember beating them 3-0 in the league one month, then losing 3-1 the next month, both at AG. The late 80's and Trumpton years were painful ... happy to never play them again! COYR
  6. 67 out of the 92 watching City ... 3 more without.
  7. Alan Walsh - remembered him playing against us and then to get such quality on a small fee via a tribunal. Turned into one of my favourite ever players. Andy Cole - after what he did on loan to pretty much keep us up (think 8 goals on 12 games or such like), to then sign him was great. Ade Akinbiyi - he had been making a real reputation for himself and paying what we did for him felt like a real statement of intent.
  8. Get a lot of this ... just feels like league football has changed from what I knew it to be (may be that it had to, but still don't like it). Didn't renew my season ticket last year and even with the great start to the season I didn't miss it as much as I thought ... only went to the Hull game all season, because I had promised my youngest we would go to one game. I now feel I would only be a customer rather than a supporter, which was emphasised by a number of issues I had with the club over a couple of years .. as a customer I can spend a lot less on other pursuits. If my lad want's to see a game, will take him to Chippenham Town now, with maybe an occasional trip to AG. Even typing this makes me feel sad as Bristol City FC will always be my club, but just not in the same way as it was ... maybe that is my problem, but when people like Big Red Rich who has supported the club Home & Away for years also backs away then it is not just me. As always COYR, but just from further away. PGR
  9. They used to give free to tickets to schools, so remember standing on an Eastville terrace for free at the start of the 80's ... we started singing City songs but the teachers very quickly stopped us. Initially thought it was because Rovers fans may not like it, but then the teachers told us we were in the away end ... and Rovers were playing Millwall!!!!! Remember celebrating the Millwall goal as they beat the Gas 1-0 though!
  10. Must admit that as soon as I saw this I wondered whether they were Swindle fans, as would make more sense ... because a Rovers fan tweeted it, maybe people just assumed it was Rovers fans?
  11. Think it must just be who people know or interact with then, which I appreciate will be different based on various factors. I know many Gasheads, with them being friends, colleagues and shamefully some from the dark side of my family. On the whole, most of them are decent enough people who I share 'bantz' with but in life I wouldn't wish any ill on them - Rovers doing poorly is to do with a wind up for me, just as it was through the 80s for them. Yes, there are some who fit the stereotype we see on here, but does that make me want people I know to be out of pocket ... no, it doesn't. Don't really go on their forum much, occasionally do to check out stuff my Gashead neighbour has talked about and yes you do see that stereotype in all of it's abundence, but not sure that forums are always fully representative of a clubs complete fanbase. Yes, from our side as a club they appear to have delusions of grandeur, thoughts of superfans who are unequivocally loved across the country etc, but in reality I haven't really worried about them for a number of years, other than to keep up to date for the 'wind up' moments with my Gashead friends. The JPT game brought it back a bit but just feels different to when I was younger ... I get that for some people there are specific events that have created the dislike and after attending City games at Eastville, Trumpton and the Mem I do understand, if not agree. Whilst I may not appreciate some aspects of Bristol Rovers football club, I don't necessarily attribute that to all of their fans and even if I do to some, it's still more of a wind up ... I honestly have more important things in life to care about. Ultimately people can chose to think, feel and post on here as they see fit ... think this might be the first time I have posted on this thread, as whilst I read it sometimes for more ammo, it isn't my thing - however, I am not one of the people who says it shouldn't exist or it should be moved as this is a forum and people clearly want to participate in it. Anyway, on to more important things ... COYRs!!!!!!
  12. Don't go on their forums as not something that really interests me but the above did, so went and had a look. That thread is funny, although I notice the same poster earlier in the thread referred to 'Trumpton' ... reckon before long he will be accused of being a 'Gert Ted' in disguise up to mischief.
  13. He appears to have bumped it a few times ... therefore think there is an entirely apparent reason, this being that his bumping gives him and some of his fellow Gas friends the chance to continue to get over excited over our 'obsession' with them. I quite like some of the Gas who have joined this thread, and others, as the banter replicates what happens between various family members I have who are red or blue and I really can't take it that seriously in the grand scheme of life - agree that this guy doesn't appear to have understood the art of humour though but let's see what pure gold he delivers next ...
  14. So some City/Gas think each others fans are obsessed, some don't. Some City/Gas think it''s 'banter'or laughing at rather than obsession, some don't. Some City/Gas think we are rivals, with various criteria seeming to be applicable/not applicable, some don't. Some City/Gas think Wael has no/some/lots/significant funds. In reality all are correct depending upon the perception of the individuals in question, including the last point that relates to your starting position on wealth, relative to beneficial ownership of a football club. From my first derby at the start of the 80's I gradually began to hate these matches as the outcome had too much riding on it at school/work. After leaving Bristol for London for 12 years and now being in Wiltshire, I don't feel the day to day impact of the Gas but still have family and friends both Red and Blue - social media has taken away any hiding place also. To me, they are our 'historic' rivals in respect of 'bants' between friends and family and always will be, just not on the pitch at the moment ... that's it for me in a nutshell really, but will be different for others. Personally can't see I'm obsessed as never posted once on the NLBR thread or this one ............ until now COYR
