What ever we tried It wouldn't be as good as what Newcastle fans do

Got to remember as any Newcastle fan will tell you

No fans come close to them as they are the greatest fans in the whole wide world

Better at generating noise than our fans to be fair.

Dickie with George Tanner as YPotS

Not sure Tanner is young enough for YPOTS? He's 24.

Probably Dickie. Pring or Knight in 2nd. Suppose Knight could be YPOTS if the cut off is 24. Could also look at Bell or Gardner-Hickman for YPOTS, it's very slim pickings though isn't it...

Not exactly a 'hot take'. Those in charge won't be sacking him anytime soon as it would make them look foolish.

Scored again today. A very astute signing by ambitious Ipswich in a move to give them added impetus to reach the promised land.

Could we have pushed the boat out? I have read a lot of fans say there were no strikers available in January. He was clearly available AND had been touted as a possible signing for us previously.

Could we afford him? Pops probably knows more than anyone but from what I've read we had some headroom. His wages would be high but it was only until the end of the season and are Ipswich in a better financial position than us?

A lot of fans saying no point speculating/gambling too much in January as we were neither going up or down. On boxing day we were one point off top 6. ONE point! After previously beating Sunderland and Hull. I'm sure any negotiations for Jan would begin before Jan when top 6 was in reach & not midway through when our form & prospects of top 6 had seemingly dropped off. And Kieffer Moore wouldn't be a gamble as he's proven at this level and only a loan so not long term financial commitment.

Admittedly Ipswich were a more attractive prospect from a league position point of view but with us on verge of top 6 we would still be attractive and it's not as though the player is committing his long term future. He'd also be first choice here whereas Ipswich have more options.

We are also much closer geographically to Bournemouth and Wales (his country of origin) so that might have tipped the scales.

The question is how much are we prepared to go for it?? Its not the first time......

He would have always picked Ipswich above us, bit of a non-starter...

I can completely understand why we did it & seems like it was the only way we would bag him. Think the weirdness is that Derby still perceived as a bigger club & likely to be back in championship at the least in the near future so just seemed odd from that perspective and that he saw us as a big enough step up. No doubt his wages were improved.

And I guess that odd feeling might not seem so odd soon....

Well I imagine the wages and our undoubtedly good facilities probably helped. I went to university in Derby and no one in their right mind is arguing that Bristol is way nicer.

Bird is a good player, we should be excited to see him play next season.

The air of a man that thinks he knows more than all of us and we are mere observers.

    An over-complicator and over-thinking analyser.

Does not look at league tables, does not listen to fans, does not show emotion or passion.

Strikes me as a type that has almost forgotten that football is about scoring more goals than the other team and may be happy with a series of 1-0 defeats for eternity as long as “principles, behaviours, passages of play, and press-points” were adhered to in line with his coaching ethos.

Coming across as pretty unrelatable and in complete conflict to what our club needed and needs right now.

Unreal mis-read by our shambles of a hierarchy.

He's the polar opposite of Pearson.

The fans bought into Pearson because he spoke sense. His press conferences were like speaking to your knowledgeable mate at the pub. We could all understand and see what he was trying to do with the team and the club. No clichés, no 'coaching' speak.

Manning is the opposite, its really sad that it's got to this.

As I said at the time to much derision on here, this is such a weird transfer.

I will wait to see how it pans out

Is it? We paid a fee to steal a march on our rivals, its as simple as that.

    Why is it weird?

I just couldn’t comprehend it if the ridiculously idiotic decision made earlier in the season culminated in us being sent into League One. Felt sick enough back then.

I thought that getting into the Premier League was almost the impossible job for City, but this would trump it by a country mile from the position in which Manning took over.

The damage between the supporters and the board would be off the scale. Irreparable in my opinion.

    Preying this doesn’t happen.

Would be an element of 'serves you right' if we did go down.

Though obviously inevitably it's the fans that suffer.

Talking to a couple of Ipswich fans in the hotel bar this evening.

Just some context, in terms of their judgement: we asked what they thought of Mark Ashton: “t w a t”.

Then, can we have Wes Burns back. “Only if we can have Liam Manning back when McKenna gets poached”

Really? Yes: “you’ve got a top coach, one of the best……give him til this time next season and you’ll be glad you did…….best organised side here this season”

    Just saying.

Hate to break it you, but I think they were taking the piss out of you mate...

  10. He seems to have potential. His decision making is often very poor though, possibly due to him coming into the game late? I imagine with the right coaching he could become a decent player at this level.

sort of reminds me of LJ getting angry with the players.

Surely LJ and Manning getting angry would be funny to the players rather than intimidating or motivating? They're hardly Pearson are they... Not exactly blokes you'd be scared of.
