Sleepy1968
The gent from Hemel Hemstead who adopted Bristol City as his team. Could be heard one-man chanting, ranting and raving (in a moderate way) from his seat in the grandstand in the 1980's, much to the bemusement of the majority within earshot. As a young impressionable teen at the time I grew up thinking this was normal behaviour. I don't so much mean the ranting and raving just the bit about coming from the big smoke to indulge every fortnight. Oh and those weekly letters in the Evening Post sportsbag.... Really, anyone have the backstory? I'm half hoping he was a disgruntled gunners fan, unhappy at gers being given the whole of the clock end for a pre season friendly in 1981, and we were his protest. Red Rag
He really was a one off. I Always thought he was bordering on bonkers untill a friend of mine told me what an intelegant engaging sort he was. Wondered myself only the other day what happened to him. New Dazzler
I remember two solo chants of his, one of which was where he took a well known song and made a "cleaned up" version for pre-watershed viewers:- "My old man said be a Rovers fan. I said don't be silly you're a fool" the other one was "Jingle bells, Jingle bells wherever you may roam Oh what fun it is to see City win at home" Talking of one off fans, what happened to the Solo Bugler from around the John Ward era? REDOXO
Top bloke and I only mentioned him last week in another thread! (no he was not a nutter, just a tad eccentric) He became a City fan after the 76 win at Highbury (obviously a former Arsenal fan)... He could be heard throughout games given it his all and he used to get in the 'old' Supporters Club. A nice fellow and I hope he is still going strong but it must be twenty years since I last saw him at AG...Any news would be nice!! ... Just googled him here is a picture and a blog from the Cider Gliders http://www.bcfc3lions.co.uk/page37.html http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/9680/thzq1.png&imgrefurl=http://www.123people.co.uk/s/tony%2Bharling&h=555&w=500&sz=240&tbnid=2E6Fr_ZR91Jd4M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=81&zoom=1&usg=__HNwCbq7fTwCDc8afkMPltUk2vxQ=&docid=lBcW9_azRq4z_M&sa=X&ei=okvKUeWVBaiFywHI2oHgBA&ved=0CDsQ9QEwAg&dur=

CiderJar
He is where my use of the term "Up the Mighty Robins" comes from.He used to shout that very loudly from behind us for no apparent reason other than to make us jump. He also set the trend of wearing a City shirt over a suit, something the rest of the world is yet to catch up with, one day they will Tony, one day they will.
