PHILINFRANCE
I shall be returning shortly for a brief visit, and intend to have an Indian meal in Downend. I believe there are two Indian restaurants in the vicinity of The Horseshoe pub, but do not know which one is better. We shall be four, and any advice would be appreciated. EmersonsKev
As I local resident that's easy. Tamarind but most nights I'd recommend booking a table if you intend to eat in the restaurant and not have a takeaway.

Robbored
+2 for the Tamarind. In my top 10 of all the Indian restaurants I've eaten in and I've eaten in a serious number of them.

PHILINFRANCE
Thank you all for your responses. The overwhelming choice would seem to be Tamarind, although, interestingly, TripAdvisor makes frequent reference to a conveyor belt approach and questionable food/presentation. We shall see, and I shall comment when I get back. Many thanks again.

PHILINFRANCE
I treat Trip Advisor with caution. So do I, and to be fair most of the comments concerning Tamarind are extremely positive. One poster, however, 'Ade' from memory, claims to have eaten there on several occasions and that it has been 'rubbish' on each occasion: I did wonder why he insisted on returning, unless he was an employee of the neighbouring Indian restaurant! PHILINFRANCE
I may now be taking the proverbial, but what about decent fish and chips; yes, your typical cod lot, but eating it in a local (Downendish) pub? The Sandringham used to be quite good and also the Willy Wicket (although disappointing last time I was there). Anybody know a good one?
