Vote For Bristol Surf Project

Mr Ed

Recommended Posts

I know it's not football related but hoping that by posting here this will reach a wider audience.

I'm appealing for help from my fellow reds to vote for the Wave inland surfing project. It's to try and win some marketing and advice for a start up company.

I think it will be a great addition to Bristol's leisure facilities. Voting closes tomorrow so any help would be very much appreciated. Link to vote below.

Just voted, the flowrider and surf lake are two completely things. The flowrider shoots water up a ramp at speed and you kinda skim on the top of it, the surf lake creates an actual wave that you can surf along for about 100m or so until the wave weakens or you fall off! It gives the perfect wave every time, sometimes you can be in the sea sea for a couple of hours and only catch two or three waves here you will be able to catch10 or so in an hour. It will be very popular as there are hundreds of surfers in and around Bristol who will be able to travel a few miles to catch a decent wave.

Absolutely this. Will be very busy when finished. Can't wait for it myself but worried that it will be far too busy all the time.

Voted already. I will def use it. The first surf lake in the uk will soon open in north wales, and I will try that out too.

Should be a huge market for it.

It's two hours from here to the nearest decent natural wave, and even then it can be a wasted journey if the swell fails to materialise.

Had to look at the other concepts and with 5 above this one noticed as already mentioned mostly London and bar the holographic company I don't see why they need the funds.

If they are good enough they will grow or wilt away so therefore investment makes no difference.

Let's get Bristol on the map!

Yep it was wavegarden. Was originally going to be situated on that large piece of land down the portway (where the football pitches used to be), but were forced to move it.

Never going to beat the real thing - no fear of a proper wipe out for a start (!) but will provide a cheap local solution for socialising & honing skills.

Thanks for the support. I used to play football with one of the guys behind the project and he's a top bloke. There were some very odd movements in the voting. The leader had over 13,000 votes but only around 5,000 Facebook shares whilst the Wave had over 10,000 Facebook shares but only 7,000 votes. Since social media is the main driver to get the support for voting these dynamics are a little surprising. It's going to happen though irrespective of the vote, just would have been nice for a helping hand from Mr. Branson.

2 hours? Never surfed Porthcawl, Porlock or the Severn Bore then I take it!

Yup. I did say 'decent'.

Porthcawl is very very rarely worth the drive.

Must admit I haven't been to porlock but from what I gather it's not that great and is an hour & 45 away anyway!

As for the Severn bore...need I really explain??
