The Lansdown Stand

I know this is mentioned in the stadium matters section but it deserves to have its own thread in this section.

For those who don't know the new stand has officially been named as 'The Lansdown Stand' and well deserved. I'm sure someone will upload the picture.

Thank you for all you've done for the club and what a fantastic stadium we now have.

I would like to see the South Stand become the Williams Stand, we would then have stands named after three of the most significant Chairmen in the last 60 years..

Agreed. Though, imagine it will be a name relevant to the Rugby. Only fair I suppose.

Also, hasn't been mentioned much but it's impressive how we haven't over-commercialised the new stadium. That stand could easily have been "The Tesco Stand" or whatever but, no, it's got a proper name with proper relevance. Likewise they haven't sold every available space on the stand for advertising, and it looks much smarter as a result.

Full marks, Bristol Sport - certainly no sign of the "identity erosion" that some like to claim.

I like the idea of the side stands named after the people who build/paid for the stands and the ends named after players. For me John Atyeo is still the most significant player in our history and I'd like him upgraded to the South Stand. They can rename the current Atyeo after a rugby player if they like.

Then one day when the Atyeo is redeveloped will you want his name moved back over?

That wouldn't cause any confusion at all!

There's plenty of time for that yet @ChippenhamRed

Rightky deserved to name the stand after the man who's delivered us our outstanding stadium.

If you look really closely though you'll notice 'Hargreaves' in arial 8 pt, just after 'The'.

I don't want to be disingenuous but does Jon Lansdown deserve this yet?

In all seriousness he should have had the stadium named after him.

He strikes me as quite humble, it probably took a lot of cajoling to get the stand name.

If they were going to do it they would have done it from the start. The South Stand is actually sponsored by dribuild, but is still called the South Stand. So we have no reason to think it'll change.

In all seriousness he (Steve) should have had the stadium named after him.

But then it might get referred to as The Steve Lansdown / Ashton Gate Stadium... The SLAGS

The stadium already has a name!

Not in perpetuity.

Would I have to rename my son to Steve? Not sure I'm on board with that.
