SirColinOfMansfield
"Knowing your market These seems to be quite a look of "facility envy", but while the Mem cannot compete with Ashton Gate, or even any other stadium in the country for events, why doesn't the marketing dept try and get more bookings based on what we have? I have been to several Gashead wedding receptions in very poor rooms in tacky venues and surely the Mem is the epitome of poor and tacky? If we are to be successful we need the stadium to be in use more than 50 days a year before it is condemned as a public eyesore. There must be a prospective market, it is up to the stadium marketing staff to be pro actice and go out and get new business. Small profits at loads of car boot sales is better than trying to use it for football. Perhaps our venue has been used as an excuse for below average players and we need to get even more over-paid under-qualified suits to help move the club further backwards again. We may not have made loads from the World Cup games but even if only 40,000 people turned up (as we get anytime we prowdly go to Wembly), we should still expect to manage the potential attendance and make a huge loss." http://gasheads.proboards.com/thread/12315/market

SimonR
Arena seating, you mean its not a 4 quid patio chair from argos. I am beginning to wonder if the gas are a complex experiment on how long you can take the proverbial out of a group of people before they realise you are doing it. so far over 100 years. It’s just clever wording. State that they will have “Arena seating” then base it on the non-existent Bristol Arena..!

old parkender
Haha, brilliant With the increase in seating, now from the sounds of it at the expense of terracing, it feels like they’re getting ready for the possibility of a 3 year stint in the championship before we actually move from the Mem or get it properly rebuilt.

The last time they had 3 years at “level 2” they averaged less than 6k - however that was playing in Bath and is an unfair reflection of the “loyal & true” few. So the time previous to that (1975-81), when they still frequented the footballing Mecca that was Eastville, they managed a massive average of 8.5k. Mind The Gap!

I know football attendances dropped generally around that period, but that was very poor wasn't it? I wonder if it had anything do with the "loyal and true" coming to the Gate to watch First Division football

I wonder if it had anything do with the "loyal and true" coming to the Gate to watch First Division football It was bolstered by a first season up average of 12,500. If that anomaly was left out, then the other 6 seasons averaged just 7,800. Even the Memorial ground, as it is, is to big for them. Then again, so was Twerton..!
