Why does Darren Barnard have to say silly comments?

Recommended Posts

He played over 200 games for Barnsley and played for them in the top flight. Seems like a reasonable comment to make about not wanting to see them go down.

Anyway, I once read a story about Dazza that he injured himself prior to a match he was due to play in for Barnsley, when he walked into his kitchen and slipped on a puddle of his dogs piss. Funny old game.

I think Barnard has a soft spot for us and comments quite a lot on us. Done a few summariser spots on our games on the local radio as well. And, as far as we fans are concerned, the bloke is a total legend. He scored what for me and many of us was the best goal I have ever seen live, the 6th of 7 against Huddersfield.

Quite a feat seeing as we never played against Huddersfield during his time with us....and we’ve never scored 7 against the Terriers either! That was some dream you had there....

Barnsley fan mate. It was a dream, compared to now which is just a bloody nightmare

Apologies Chief....you can see how your username confused me! DB was one quality player...I loved him...best of luck to you, I’ve always enjoyed trips to Oakwell, except the one where my car was trashed as it had the word Bristol in tiny letters on the number plate!

We've all got our idiots mate, sadly. Hopefully you'll all have a good day on Friday, apart from the result. We REALLY need one, but I am less than hopeful.

Might see some of you in the old No7.

(and yes, I was quite surprised that Redsfan was free when I first registered some time ago. It seemed an obvious choice, but I can see how it confuses...you aren't the first ;) )

Aaah.....the ‘old no 7’ - always reminds me of of one of my fave tipples...a classic logo and the ‘old no 7’ tops it off nicely!

I remember seeing that Barnard goal on the box. Left footed, first touch, on the volley, angled ball in and angled shot out.... World class. I like the way Barnsley played back then and if we can get our game back and its like that, fast and furious, we will easily make the play offs... It will require significant and experienced motivational coaching to bring us back to that. Fingers firmly crossed for Friday.

Darren Barnard was a superb player for us and rather than let his contract run down signed a new one before a move to Barnsley giving us a £750k transfer fee.

As well as bring the dead ball specialist he had a huge effect upon the team with his strength going forward and whipped crosses in.

He was so good that one fanzine divided the season into BD and AD (before Darren and after Darren) to show quite how much better we were after he joined the team.

If he chooses to say nice things about another of his ex-clubs I'm not going to moan about it; he was absolutely excellent for us both on the pitch and in gifting us the big transfer windfall when he left.

That was our first year down following relegation from the PL. That team was full of talent and on our day we were irresistable. We had lost a couple of key players from the year before though, most notably Neil Redfearn, and we just weren't consistent enough and finished mid table.

The year after though, under Dave Bassett, we reached the play off final (last game at the old Wembley) and it was quite mad that year but was a special year. We scored nearly 100 goals that season. A bit ropey at the back we just seemed to have the attitude that it didn't matter, whatever you score, we'll score more!. Compared to the sterile tippy tappy crap we watch now at Oakwell it seems a lifetime ago. :(

I bet the Leeds lot were confuddled, the daft buggers.

Must admit always enjoy Barnsley away. Plenty of places for a beer outside the train station and easy walk up to the ground.
