Premier League Fixtures

Discussion on Talksport saying that when the fixtures are brought out there is an arrangement that the top 6 teams cannot play against each other on the opening or final weekend and has been going on for a few years. So much for the random fixtures!

Of course it's not random but it never is or was. They have to consider so many things with teams playing in x on this day and other events etc. The tv money just throws more weight behind Sky being able to have 'Derby Day' Sunday's etc.

It’s done so for the remaining 26 weekends in the middle they always have a top six clash (For Sky)

Before Sky and the Prem came along, remember when ITV bought the entire League rights? 92 clubs, but they concentrated on six; Man U, Liverpool, Everton, Forest, Spurs & Arsenal. One of that group was on nearly every week and if any two of them were playing each other that would be the televised game.

More surprising news would have been the announcement that the fixtures are NOT rigged for the benefit of TV audiences.

Was it 1989 Liverpool v Arsenal where Arsenal had to win by 2 clear goals? Last time I remember a massive top six game last game of the season.

Fairly certain the only reason fairly certain the only the reason that happened was because of the Hillsborough disaster and that game wasn’t played because Liverpool didn’t play the week after it happened.

Exactly! No doubt you’re more concerned about your beloved tangerine Arabs getting turned over last night?!

Proper bottle job.

Flood lost his head at the end as well, proper exploded. Full credit to Livi if they do go up mind, but we're still in with a chance.

Correct about the year and score. However, it wasn't on a Saturday. This fixture was scheduled earlier in the season, but had been postponed, so wasn't meant to be the final game.
