If it were Southgate we’d have not seen games today.

I think this is probably right. But, I do find it odd that - given how widespread this rumour has become - the FA haven’t formally confirmed Southgate as safe and well - particularly since he was known to be at the game, and it would seem plausible that a high profile visitor might use a helicopter to leave the stadium.

It’s also notable that Southgate quickly made a statement on Hoddle yesterday, but hasn’t done the same for this situation. That’s probably explained by the fact that Hoddle was a former England manager, but you might expect one of the leading figures in the game to have offered condolences (an observation rather than a criticism).

I was thinking the same…

The FA have confirmed with some random local journo but no one else?

obviously hope it’s not true but that’s not the most reliable source I’ve ever seen

I’m sure you mean’t you hope it’s true, as the journo, in the link about which you were commenting, said Gareth wasn’t on the helicopter. It does seem a bit strange that over 24 hours later there doesn’t seem to be any firm confirmation about the horribly tragic incident. The Leicester City owner seems to be a very decent chap who has committed himself to both the football club and the local community.....this is just so awful, and the wild speculation on social media etc isn’t helping anything....it’s hard to know what to say at this stage because there isn’t much info to go on, but I just really hope that everyone involved is ok....

I think the difficulty would be by releasing a statement saying Southgate is fine that that might be seen as interfering.

I think a logical statement would be that from Southgate just saying his thoughts are with everyone connected to this tragedy. That would confirm he's ok whilst not being insensitive.

It is rather concerning surrounding the silence about Southgate. There seems to be a wall of silence and that is concerning.

Not sure I would go along with that, as others have said above its likely there is very little remains left of any on board. Identification will take a while, you can't pronounce someone dead until there is concrete evidence.

If anything were to ever happen to anybody who holds a position like Southgate then we can't ignore the magnitude of the effect that would have. The country would be in mourning, the entire fixture list would be cancelled so if such a tragedy were to ever happen I'm sure it would be sensible to delay announcing until there was official confirmation and plans were put in place.

To me it is very concerning that the entire football world has gone quiet regarding Southgate.

Why is Southgate being singled out?  It’s just twitter speculation and nothing else. I even saw someone suggesting Shearer was on the thing as he hadn’t tweeted since ffs

Because he is a high profile individual who was known to be at the game, who hasn’t been heard from since when you might expect him to have commented given his position, and he might plausibly have been on the helicopter.

That said, I agree it’s speculation.

I was recently - like literally Thursday - in 90 degree heat in Florida - yesterday at the gate was a temperature  wake up call I can assure you !!

Anyway, on International Drive which is just a big road lined with eating places, dollar shops, crazy golf etc you can get a 10 minute 30 dollar copter ride.

And I mean literally there and then - takes off from a grid about 6 car park spaces in size 50 yards maximum from one of the busiest roads in Florida - only in America!!

in theory it should be the ride of your life and a once in lifetime experience, nobody expects the worse to happen or none of us would ever get on  a plane go in a car or speedboat. these things happen unfortunately and when they do we all shudder inwardly and think there but for the grace of god go I.

I think it's the fact he was known to have travelled to Leicester games on board that very same helicopter and he was at the game. If for this game he had made different travel arrangements or had other engagements where he would not be returning to London after the game then he is a very fortunate person.

For this reason I remain concerned until we hear from Southgate or his wellbeing is known.

What I'm saying is Southgate is very popular in the football world, it's a bit strange that not one person in the football world has posted on social media or commented on the radio or TV that they have spoken to Southgate and he is fine.

A journalist has tweeted that Southgate did NOT travel to the game on the helicopter....so there’s lots of uncertainty around this whole incident....why do you think it’s a ‘fact’ that he travelled to the game on the helicopter? This ain’t a criticism....there’s just so many conflicting reports about everything surrounding this dreadful incident....I just wondered from where you got the info that Gareth travelled to the game on the helicopter....

The five people were on board the helicopter when the incident happened. While formal identification has not yet taken place, they are believed to be Leicester City Football Club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, two members of his staff, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, pilot Eric Swaffer and passenger Izabela Roza Lechowicz.

Reported by BBC Radio Leicester and that's a statement from the police. RIP to all.

traveling to the game was not the issue, the crash happened after the game.
