In administration for a second time.

Curious as to what the forum think of this demise, the rise of digital streaming and the death of physical purchases.

Speaking personally, I still buy the odd DVD if something has been 'really good'. Always useful to have if your broadband goes down. That said, DVDs, now an outdated concept, have not stayed competitive - they are still a tenner a disc for new films. Is the answer not to make DVDs and CDs ridiculously cheap and, that way, compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon?

Example: new Jurassic World film. DVD is £10. It's not even 720p picture quality. That £10 could buy you a month's Netflix subscription where you have access to thousands of films at the touch of a button in 1080p/HD quality.

Just do what millions are doing and just download a few apps and get yourself a vpn and watch Netflix shows and the like for nowt  ?

Why do you need a vpn?

Netflix and others like it put different shows/movies on in different countries at different times. Netflix UK won't get american tv shows often for a while after, they've just had Avengers Infinity War put on but will be a while before the UK version gets that.

No it’s not but when you don’t have to pay for it you are saving yourself £120 over the year

why would you not pay for something that someone has spent hundreds of thousands or millions to produce? if everyone got it for free you would have nothing to watch as there would be no money to make the programs or films.

You might as well be stealing money from neighbours or goods from a shop

Never understood this mentality, if someone stole your TV, how happy would you be?

PS any wonder thy HMV is going out of business when people are stealing movies and music easilly rather than purchasing it, not to mention  music producers and artists. yes they earn millions ,but why does anyone think they have the right to steal from them?

nope its stealing.

if you have a mother or sister or brother and  I don't know them, i can happily steal from them, that's what you are saying, because stealing say music from an ud coming artist who doesn't have a pot to piss in through a sharing web site, is okay judging by your comments

You son,are a thief if this is what you do ,it matters not who from, you are a dirty thief.  no more no less.  you try and wrap it up to appease yourself.  But don;t moan and groan when a loved one has their property lifted from them.

I bet you are the type who has a huge opinion on all the boxing you watch, but do not pay to watch, doing those you support out of the money they are supposed to earn by actually boxing, while you watch them for free swigging beer.

Tell you what I’ve heard some crap on here but that post takes the biscuit.A thief for a start steals the product and puts it online for people like me to watch,so I’m not the thief or some bloke in a boozer who is buying off some smackhead who as you say robbed mine or your family of their hard earned goods,as for the boxing point yes I am and if AJ when he earns his 50 million next fight wants to know why it wasn’t 50 million and 20 pounds then he can read this and know why

yep say whatever you want to make yourself feel better about stealing.

Its not necessarily all about the multi million pound earners, but the up and coming boxers, singers actors artists who are getting portion of the  profits from what ever organisation you are stealing from that pay them.   It doesn't matter if its 1p or 200 quid 2000 quid or 2 million quid, its still stealing. it doesn't matter  it if it is from a a 5 year old's pocket or a multi million pound organisation, it is stealing. if you wouldn't want it done to you, why, and how the hell could you possibly think it i okay to do it from anyone?

PS I presume you do not make or supply any product ,if you do it would make you opinion even more bizarre.

HMV have been overpriced for years, people may say ‘sad times’ but other than people being made unemployed, I’m glad it’s going.

they have not nailed by a different format truth be told, they should have branched out into streaming rather than selling the media.. or cut down the amount of shops, enhanced their online presence in streaming of movies and music and specialised in vinyl in their high street shops

Truth be told us consumers are killing all these stores, and there will be a time when we can no longer easily go and try something at a local store then buy cheaper online.  we are unknowingly going to wreck our own purchasing strategy.  when the high street shops go,the online shops prices will go up, products will be sourced from abroad and consumer rights will slowly be dissolved as the product will not be sourced in this highly regulated country.

To answer your last question  honestly I don’t I’m not clever enough to do all that. You seem to think this is a new thing trust me it’s not,it started in the 90s and if you think film stars, footballers or boxers are losing revenue since then I suggest you think again because their earnings will tell you different,I’m not short of money and neither are you but in these days when you have people that are really struggling should they be forced to pay a ten bob a month to watch something that is free

it certainly is not a new thing.

but personally, if I can't afford something then I don't watch it or don't buy it. or if i am lucky i can go around to a mates house who can afford it and provide some food or drink to the host or go to the pub and watch it and buy a couple of pints for the duration of the match. but that is me.

A word of warning,if you are using a free VPN, then don't be surprised if your details are getting logged, it is in this instance that you definitely  want to pay for a good VPN provider that is based in a country that is not willing to supply the logged data to an interested parties...  You may want to take a look at that rather than using a free one if you are using it for streaming or illegal downloading.

I agree with a lot of what you say but it’s not us consumers who are killing stores, it’s marketing and themselves.

Christ we are going to have to agree with certain free VPN’s,just do a dns leak test and that will tell you if they are any cop and then if they are check the small print about logs

Proton vpn based in Switzerland is certainly a safe country as @TRL said tbf, free option only gives you 3 servers but they keep no logs and depending on your own internet speed is well fast enough to stream whatever you want, and before @TRL asks I’m not involved with that either just giving advice

no problem with you giving advice on VPNs highly recommend anyone use them for any internet traffic

Christ this escalated quick .

The reasons concerts are so expensive these days is it’s the only way a recording artist / band can make any money as the majority of people download / rip / copy music.

Same goes for films hence why Cinemas are a rip off.

Football and Boxing don’t help themselves either.

For music artists I think you can blame stuff like Spotify and YouTube rather than “illegal“ stuff  to be honest, and here’s a thought how about making going to the movies cheap and try to combat “stealing”.On a lighter note I could watch city sat at home on tv tomorrow but I’m still going down there tomorrow to watch a few steal a living and the prices still go up

See I have the choice as follows -

Rush about, travel to the ground, pre match pints, food, ticket, get home etc so probably gone for 8 hours, spend circa £80 easy or I can do other things I enjoy and then at 2:55pm stick the game on and watch at home.

When the football is as crap as it’s been at home this season making the effort and spending the money at this time of year v watching at home isn’t a big decision sadly at present.

MXQ box

To true sadly, regarding VPN’s on a Android box it’s easy go to play store and just download if you got a account(as above don’t download any ropey crap)if you haven’t got a account then just type in aptoide tv on google or any other search engine and follow the instructions and once you have the vpn downloaded(I suggest protonvpn if you don’t want to fork out cash)then just connect and then go to kodi
