Bristol Rovers Dustbin Thread

Recommended Posts

Watching their game didn't half make me appreciate the Championship. Some of the 'defending' was comical, especially for the Bantams 2nd goal, the bloke had the freedom of their penalty area. If we defended like like, I think I would vomit!

Fantastic attendance

Haven't they got a sensible ticketing structure? I'm sure they're one of the cheapest league clubs going.

Also makes me wonder how we did 9 (I think it was) consecutive seasons in It!

They were very poor, especially their defence.

Worst thing for them is that the only truly capable-looking player they own scored on telly, and so won't have fended off any interest others might have in him.

Note on the second man in the Sky commentary box; said some pretty stupid things (dismissing a course-changing handball in the area as lacking "intent" being one), but his "Bristol Rovers will shake this off and be a force again this season" takes the biscuit as the dumbest - offered no evidence, and nor did their performance.

Can just see a mid or lower midtable finish being enough to start the drums on the sags driving out the manager, followed by struggling against/ending up with relegation again, as they once again seem to have ideas of where they should be that are well above their capacities, just like when Trollope was in charge - "It's the ciiiiiircle of life..."

To be fair and as much as I detest that mob I don't think that is a bad away following for a 12.30 ko and a live TV game

R*vers were dreadful today and, if that's their normal standard, fair play to those that watch it. I really enjoy watching Championship football, it's a really good standard.

Thankfully, we're not in that god awful division anymore.

It was the offer of a free Skybet breakfast that got them there. Anything for a hot meal.

Makes you appreciate the Championship for what it really is. I couldnt cope with another season down in the depth of League 1

They can look on the bright side that they're not Swindown town I guess. What's that now, last 2 home games, 1-7 on aggregate? :)

We really do not have ANY local competition.

Cardiff I suppose but I know what you mean. Apart from us, Westcountry football is pretty dire at the moment.

Plymouth are on the way up arent they? I'm grasping at straws a bit, I'd love to see another team from the west country in the championship. Not the sags though.

Pretty up and down up to now this season. I can`t see them challenging this season, just consolidating. Exeter are top of league 2 though - unbeaten and only dropped 2 points up to now.

Exeter were the other team that came to mind, theres a lot of talented young footballers over there, you'd have thought we'd be aware of it. Football in the west country is a state though, no doubt about it.

Still believing the Wembley attendance myth...

I am not sure your 10,000 estimate takes into account the following

We took 40,000to Wembley, we have roughly  at best, 10,000 regular supporters who attend games.

That leaves about 30,000 who are probably followers of BRFC, who do not support the club and many would go to a Wembly Cup Final because of the great day out etc etc. Rest assured these "floating" followers wont be the type who read the Forum and they wont give a toss if they are called scabs.

I think, in my opinion, that you are over estimating the power and influence of a Forum, it lot less than you think.

It's a terrible tournament. And fully understand fans not going. But also if people want to go surely that's down to them . I see they are being called scabs for doing so . If the fewers did get to Wembley it would be interesting to see how many they would take. I'm pretty sure a few will have selective memory. Would I go if it was City . I don't know. Not because it's a shit competition but don't really enjoy the Wembley experience. Preferred the old Wembley

In what way?

Wael made some nebulous comments about 1 step forward and 4 back, but didn't say who caused the 4 backwards steps. UWE put out a statement which didn't align with what Rovers said, Wael didn't seem bothered enough about it to put the record straight.

UWE made it clear that they were still willing to discuss the project, Hamer had said 'never say never', Wael said 'no'.

Draw your own conclusions.

Where are the BBC inteviews, or the Bristol Post interviews with some relevant person at UWE?
Steve Hamer and Wael have been asked and interviewed about it.

No one seems to have sought any info from UWE. All we have is tbeir statement that doesnt reconcile with Rovers version. UWEs role (wernt we supposed to be partners under Higgs originally) either seems to have been forgotten about or wilfully ignored IMO

Regardless of the answers and what anyone beleives, Rovers are the only ones that have been asked any questions that i know off

Maybe the difference is that UWE have publicly invited Rovers back to try to make the thing happen, and Wael has declined. In that situation it's probably Wael who has got off lightly by hiding behind confidentiality.

I have to say, if UWE were being unreasonable and jeopardising the future of a FC that I owned I would be furious and would have been a bit more

The gap between the two 'Bristol's' has widened considerably, I blame the decline of the Wonderbra for that and the rise of pc feminism...  'The Gap' has been fascinating for all of us to keep an eye on, and it's the Gas that have been minding The Gap more than anyone... (they even invented a game of 'boob cricket' apparently, an 'in tents' game popular throughout the country's under canvas camping parks I hear)..

I digress slightly, the point I wanted to make (if only!) was despite dwindling support for Sags ,which has undoubtedly been somewhat amusing for the much firmer support of Bristol City's south of the river... I must admit, not being a fan of Saggies personally, and I miss the late 60's/70's when the gap was smaller and the two Bristol's were closer together, sometimes clashing spectacularly during a good streak ... I'd quite like to see 'the Gap' closed a bit.

As a fan of cleavage generally, but specially of good old fashioned Bristol cleavage... I say bring back the 'Wonderbra'  it was so much more fun, I've had enough of the lifting and separating, and for some, with next to no support, we've seen in recent years the 'Sags' sagging , swinging ever lower almost onto their knees, its not a good sight, talk about blue tits...  the Gap has become a bit too much now, was fun but its got a bit too boring now.. I think decent support is healthy and I look forward to one day enjoying a bit of Bristol cleavage again..

Hope this post doesn't make me look like a right tit, - theres still no better sight than a Red Red Robin bob bob bobbing along..

Good work Adamski. So, the conclusion is that they aren't 'coming for us' at all and we are further in front than we've ever been. their crowds are historically about half of ours and, no doubt, even less than that over the last couple of years. We're averaging around 19,000 since the rebuild aren't we so they're at 37% of our current support?

Can't beat solid facts although they probably will try.

No, it's the away support that matters most. Rovers take at least 3000 away regularly compared to the Ted's "crap away support" considering that they are a Championship side. Everyone comments on how excellently brilliant and well supported the much more liked "family" club from Bristol are....FACT. Nobody ever mentions how good the 82er away attendances are and everyone knows that Trashton is the biggest library in the U.K......FACT, plus there are litteraly thousands that can't get in at away games because of obsessed Sheeds mixing with the home supporters and then causing it to go right off with us family supporters getting unfairly blamed and subsequently banned for misdemeanours that weren't even our fault, it's all the shits fault, all of it....FACT! We are also  prowed supporters, unlike you filthy dirty shoot shoot shoot the bastards who change with the wind....FACT. Finally, anything pre-82 doesn't count as that was an old club who died (but you keep forgetting that point don't you Ted's?!). Give the poor tossers a break, wouldn't you go to away games to stadiums that are actually fit for purpose for a change?.

You know how the Rovers twisted our early 80's chant of "The gas, the gas. We've got to get rid of the gas" (Wilfred Owen couldn't have written better)? Well, how about we do something similar which will make the club shop loads of money?

We have a few clever posters here who can photoshop/edit a picture before I can spell Jacki's real name. So please feel free to add a robin/club badge etc to this picture....

Didn't some clever spark do the away figures a while back that proved their away support is shite compared to ours?

They really don't have a lot going for them do they? Do I feel any sorrow for them? Do I ****!!!

GROUND - CITY

TEAM - CITY

OWNER - CITY as their bloke has put naff all in and taken the 'club' to the brink of going broke while ours has put plenty in.

STANDARD - CITY

SUPPORT - CITY

Poor lambs, NOT!

A question, as there are obviously loads of sheeds at their games intent on making them look bad, what's their real attendance figure? ;)

The formula is Quoted attendance + 3000 + 30 Ted's in disguise + 20000 (locked out).

If this still looks bad add 5000 for beam back and 40000 listening in to Radio Bristol -1 prat who listened on the wrong frequency and moaned to Twentypence how biased RB was towards those dirty Sheeds.

With one of their pasty huts being condemned, I can honestly say Bristol Manor Farm have better facilities than Rovers.

At their game last Monday they had their food stand open, plus a BBQ, as well as the bar open to grab snacks with your pint.

The football is a better standard too.
