  1. Some not terribly serious thoughts on rain, and it’s potential impact on the proposed ground move for Gloucestershire. https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2024/04/08/its-raining-today/
  2. Showing my age here, but I remember a certain Gerry Gow “flashing the v’s (as we used to say) at the Dolman Stand. The fans had been giving the team some stick, when losing 0-1 against Carlisle (I think), after a couple of very late goals bought us a win. I never understand why “fans” think they can dish it out, only to get distraught when a player shows any sort of reaction.
  3. A not terribly serous look into the future. It’s the first day of play at the new home for Gloucestershire, the dark days of Benkenstein are a distant memory. Climate change has impacted the start date of the new season but confidence is high. https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/12/06/a-golden-new-future/
  4. Regardless of results, the end of the cricket season (as with football) is tinged with sadness. Saying farewell to folks that you have spent a lot of time, hoping to see each other again in April. https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/09/15/journeys-end/
  5. They play in Bristol. I’m from Bristol. They are my local team. Pretty straightforward.
  6. So pleased that you enjoyed reading it. Sorry for your loss, though next season will be tough, I’m sure that you have lots of great memories that will pop into your head when watching games.
  7. A couple of posts of my cricket blog recently. First up some thoughts on the season being almost over, which discusses another pretty unsuccessful season for Gloucestershire, the importance of initials, The Band being replaced by Punk Rock, and more https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/09/06/the-last-waltz/ Also an interview with author Colin Babb, who wrote the excellent 1973 and Me.the book is about the impact on a child in a West Indian family when the West Indies toured that year. It’s also about football, TV, food and so much more. Worth a look for those of a certain age. https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/08/15/colin-babb-interview/ There are plenty of other pieces there as well.
  8. I think there is access via a lift to all the upper floors in the Lansdown
  9. The popular Walkers & Talkers sessions that former Gloucestershire cricketer Andy Brassington has been running at The County Ground (Seat Unique), is moving to Ashton Gate for one week on Wednesday 12th July. The special guest is Alan Walsh, who will take place in a Q&A for around an hour. Before that, there is a walk around the ground (last time we went through the dressing rooms etc on a tour of the stand) for around an hour. Meet up in the sports bar (that’s where we met last time anyway) at around 10am. It’s free (including tea, coffee and biscuits). These are very informal and friendly events. The whole thing normally ends around 12noon.
  10. My latest cricket blog is mainly about rain and Geoff Boycott https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/04/15/high-land-hard-rain/

I recently posted another interview on the site. This time it’s with Chris Geddes of the Glasgow based band Belle and Sebastian. He talks about his very early memories of Gloucestershire, playing cricket in Scotland and winning an amazing cricketing prize as a child https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/03/05/chris-geddes-interview/

Thanks for reading. Yep, he's particularly fond of Test Cricket, not so keen on 100 though. He's not alone!

There are a few new cricket related interviews on the site. The latest is with well known QPR fan Robert Elms. Some of you may remember him from his day’s writing for The Face magazine or maybe his excellent show on Radio London which you can listen to via the BBC Sounds App. https://rainstoppedplayinspectionat3.wordpress.com/2023/02/05/robert-elms-interview/
  14. It's January, City are unbeaten for two games, could there be a better time to talk about Cricket! Well, yes, almost certainly. Anyway, last summer I started writing a blog about returning to watch cricket in the flesh after a long time away. It's not very serious, and fairly nostalgic. More recently, I've been fortunate to chat with some interesting people and post interviews on the site. There are chats with Guardian football writer and author Jonathan Wilson, Radio 6 DJ Gideon Coe, Scientist and broadcaster Dr Adam Rutherford and several more.
