"Although they were batting at the time, they state they intended to declare within a few overs and had ample time to bowl the overs required with the weather set fair. They also claim that they were assured by match officials, at the time of the abandonment, they would face no such penalty".

Ridiculous. If the points scenario was different going into the final games, Somerset could have approach matches differently to obtain more batting or bowling points. It's getting a little ridiculous.

The radio commentators said that an announcement would be made after close of play today. I think it would be the mother of all WTF moments if issue was taken with the pitch now.

The more runs we score, the more we disprove the claim. However, I honestly wouldn't put it past the ECB to side against Somerset.

I just wonder if like football some counties are beginning  to think that they are 'too big' to go down?

I was listening to the cricket on the radio earlier and they mentioned this. Apparently a number of clubs are appealing for the league system to be reviewed so only a single club gets relegated each year. It certainly keeps it interesting having two relegation places and makes the Second Division worthwhile.

    Two items on SSN today.

1; England is the only nation which still attracts large attendances to Test Matches. Everywhere else spectators prefer the shorter versions of the game.

    2. Australia's authorities announced pay rises today. Their women's team are receiving a £49,000 increase bringing the average salary to £111,000. Their male counterparts will now be on an average of £half a million pa.

That's quite interesting. I had no idea they would get paid anywhere near as much as that.
