  1. The point is that if you want Holloway to be manager at Ashton Gate, there is an equivocation between you and a red flag-waving Cardiff fan; you're sacrificing the tribalism of club football because you feel it's a shortcut to the big time. If that's what you want there are hundreds of pubs across Bristol showing Premier League matches at 1.30 and 4 on a Sunday and you might be more at home there If we forget these tribal boundaries- City vs Rover or whatever it is in whatever town- then football as we know it is dead. Holloway is too much "one of them" for me to accept him
  2. He also made videos about how much he doesn't like us and has been quoted in the press as saying that managing us would be "selling his soul to the devil". People's support of Holloway as our new manager is a representation of everything that's wrong with modern football. **** the tribalism, **** the history, who's going to get us to the Premier League quickest
  3. To be honest, I do get where you're coming from, it's just that on the face of it this decision reeks of short-termism and panic. You may well be right in your assessment but my gut instinct is this is another royal ****-up by Lansdown and his pals
  4. The new guy may well do that and more, but conversely he may change things for the worse. If what you're saying is within our system the head coaches only role is to pick the team and formation on a Saturday afternoon then it makes no more sense as we've lost 1 in the last 7, i.e. the tactics are starting to work. I fail to see how we can have a long term coaching structure but not a long term attitude to the coaches operating within it? This isn't Burger King where you can replace your chief burger flipper with an advert in the job centre As others have said, there must be more to this than just the results and to be honest, if its pretty much any of the names I've seen mentioned so far, I will seriously question the sanity of this board
  5. Then why get rid of the head coach? Surely nothing will change with his dismissal?
  6. So all that talk of "long-term goals" and "building for the future" was just bullshit? Wtf are you doing Lansdown... As others have pointed out, JET'll be after a move come January I imagine I wonder who the next chump through the door is going to be? ******* joke City
  7. He didn't cheat because he wasn't given out by the umpire. Surely in order to cheat you have to break a rule or law? At best (worst?) he acted immorally, but I think it's a bit rich that a team who's last captain (Ponting) would regularly boast about never walking its a touch hypocritical
  8. To paraphrase Bruce Forsyth, "you don't get anything for a draw young man". I think he reckons we'll win two tests and Australia will win two tests with the 5th drawn. I don't think there'll be many draws either- Australian summer and good batting pitches mean decent rate of scoring. The first test is key for the convicts; they need to win it to have a chance of the series IMO
  9. I have a bad feeling that the Aussies are going to turn us over in this series, despite there only being 2 of their players (by my reckoning- Clarke & Harris) that would make our first 11. Should be a good in though, I have a few mates going over to watch various tests, not jealous in the slightest...
  10. The one thing that we'll never be able to fix at AG no matter how many houses we but up is the transport links. With AV, people could have got on a train at Temple Meads and got off 5 minutes later at the stadium. That not only makes it more attractive to new/part time fans, but it makes it more attractive as a conference venue and hotel. We just can't replicate that at Ashton Gate, no matter how great it would be to stay there and redevelop
  11. Some people like Maltesers and some people REALLY like Maltesers and City are still shit. Probably
  12. Dawn raids make better headlines. Before we condemn it as further evidence of the war on football fans though, we should probably find out the specifics of what they were arrested for
  13. UserS? I can't speak for Kotsy but I was JOKING as in not intending for my comment to be taken seriously. That said, it is quite early for a match thread. Meet back here at 7pm?
  14. This is a touch early isn't it? Also, I think Watford are officially Udinese C; Granada in Spain are their 'B' team
  15. Not as ironic as an old man who turns 98, wins the lottery and then dies the next day OR 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife OR meeting the man of your dreams and then meeting his beautiful wife Personally, I think new approaches to running and promoting football clubs should be encouraged and embraced. The FGR chap reminds me somewhat of that episode in the Simpsons when Homer becomes the nuclear safety technician for a supervillain with great working conditions and a 'hippyish' attitude to life. Let him run the club his way I reckon, can't do worse than the majority of clubs/chairman in the FL and conference
  16. I do hope it's the kind of option we're looking at, but I believe this is now the third thread darted on this young man and I don't think he's THAT good
  17. Let us not forget that he was the most sought after manager in Europe this time last year and I think he was undone more by the egos in the Chelsea dressing room than his failings on the pitch. That's not to say there aren't egos in Spurs dressing room though... Plenty of managers have shat out before they did well (Rodgers & Lambert spring to mind) but I just have a feeling that AVB is one of those who'll be good on the continent but never quite 'get it' over here
