  1. I'm saying nowt, but you might indeed be correct There was also the ex-player working for the club who turned out to have two separate families, both unaware of the other's existence.
  2. City played on the third tier for much of that decade, and were inferior to Rovers for some of it. Now we're pretty cemented in the second tier and are chasms apart from the Fewers.
  3. It doesn't surprise me at all seeing people have very different opinions on the game: that's football. You get three main things out of the sport: A) Joy when your team wins and a togetherness with your fellow fans B ) The chance to see some silky skills on show - better than you could ever do [NB: this doesn't apply to Gas fans] C ) The chance to talk about and argue over the game afterwards. 500 fans probably have 500 slightly different takes on the same game, some will be more informed and more tactically literate, sure, but that doesn't mean they are always "right" and other views are always "wrong". In something as complicated and nuanced as a 90 minute football match, there is no definitive opinion on everything. I always read Rob's reports because I can't get to many away games for childcare and work reasons. I read them because they are well-written, fair, and they really paint a picture of how he saw the game. It doesn't mean what he writes is necessarily how I'd see things if I was there. How can I know? But the reports are - I think - always worth a read and if they spark a debate; hey! That's what football forums are all about!
  4. Erm, blimey, there's been a few I could mention. Our arguably most famous manager was known for it...
  5. The Taffs reckon £30K a week. Someone's calculated he's cost the club £100K per game started.
  6. I believe they are an American chain, but the Bath outlets are now owned by their UK managers.
  7. I decided to have a look on your recommendation, and found this. What an impressive man he is. https://www.the42.ie/curtis-fleming-interview-5128876-Jun2020/
  8. Bit on the pricey side though, isn't it? Last time, I went in there I took a couple of mates, one of whom was Scottish. He looked at the blackboard with the prices on, said: "**** thon!" and immediately did a u-turn out of the place! Used to be a regular stop for me back in the days it was called Dr Thirsty's Surgery.
  9. All the best with your fight. Lots of people do beat the prognosis. My best mate was given 3-6 months with stage 4 bowel cancer and lived for 10 years. Got to see his kids grow up and go to uni.
  10. Even he was born in England! But he was brought up in Dublin, so he is very much a genuine Irishman.
  11. Spot on. There were ball boys who touched the ball more often than him when he was here.
  12. Exactly. Leave that for all us poor sods who attend all the home games, but never travel!
  13. Didn't see any comments on the travails of relegation zone Shrewsbury for some reason...
  14. 4: When he's safely in Wormwood Scrubs, via a note smuggled in by Mad Nobby from the next cellblock.
  15. The player we all hoped he would be. ?
  16. Well, Pochettino was interested, but he lives too far away....
  17. It's spelled Szmodics. Just a typical, old Essex surname. Oh, and the answer is 3 points!!! ?
  18. Because when he did play he looked rubbish. Probably moved too far up the ladder too young. He's 26 now and two seasons further on then when we had him last. Has developed as a player.
  19. According to Wikipedia, Liam is eligible to play for either England or Italy. Surprised the Azzurri haven't snapped him up. ?
  20. Keep watching from above and rest easy, John. My condolences to his family and friends.
  21. Erm, I'm not trying to "be little" you. I actually agree with your original point that although we could do worse than Stephen Lansdown as an owner, we could do better as well. You seem to have missed my point though, which is that the owners of the clubs you've listed were wealthy fans of those clubs, before they took them over. I wasn't suggesting that those clubs were run by the collective fanbase. I was differentiating them from Burnley, which is owned by an investment group from America who probably couldn't even find Burnley on a map. They are out to make money from a lower PL club based in a declining Lancashire town, where a high percentage of the population are Asians with little interest in football. It'll end in tears for the investors or for Burnley fans - or both.
  22. Yet you've cited Norwich, Brighton and Brentford as well-run clubs - each run by fans. Mae your mind up!!
