  1. I got married as well. Oh well, with the Gas going down, the year wasn't all bad...
  2. The top-selling mobile phone in the year the Gas last experienced second tier football.
  3. I expect many of them can no longer remember what the second tier is like. Its changed totally in any case from when they were last in it. (1992?)
  4. Good on paper, but with Mr Rubbish managing them you wont get a good team gelling.
  5. He is wrong. It's Bristol Bears and Pat Lam.
  6. Their crowd have been in a vegetative state for years...
  7. My mate came up to me and said: "I don't know what I'm going to do! I've spent all my money buying first edition Beatles' records and now I can't pay the mortgage or feed the kids!" I said: "It sounds like you need help." "No, I've got that one," he replied.
  8. Covid-19 rules. You don't pick up and examine potential purchases these days. I'd met Starnes once before but he's grown a beard during lockdown so I didn't recognise him on this occasion. Had I realised the stall was being run by the alleged purveyor of out-of-date crisps and phoney Fanta I'd have naturally been wary.
  9. Well guess who sold me two CDs in my village jumble sale recently, which turned out just to be empty cases with no music? Step forward Gas CEO Martyn Starnes. I guess the 50p I was stiffed over them pales into insignificance compared to the indignities the 15ers faithful have put up with.
  10. Pretty much my take on Suddenly as well, Jeff. New (to me) this lockdown has been the Angel Olsen album All Mirrors, which really builds on her earlier work and is superb. I also like Agnes Obel @Major Isewater I have eclectic tastes and I've been folking out to a collection of Kate & Anna McGarrigle albums a friend sent me and also psych rocking out to Syd Arthur, who never disappoint.
  11. An honorary colonelship is different to being a serving colonel. You can't call yourself it in public, only when addressing the specific regiment you've been made honorary colonel of. Nonetheless it's nice for Tom and his family. Well deserved.
  12. I was doing a crossword in the pub and said to my Scottish friend, “I'm stuck on this one, ‘trapped on a desert island, eight letters, starting with M’ “ He said “Marooned” I replied “Thanks, I'll have a pint of lager”
  13. I think the old gent has been a genuine morale raiser (as well as fundraiser) during this time. Here's to his 101st!
  14. In a rare moment of prescience in 2016, Topper Gas noted: "Problem is we've no idea what Wael's bought so far, for all we know he's just rearranged the debts and once he's looked closely at the UWE plans could decide it's a none starter and put the club up for sale/into admin. I appreciate that's pretty unlikely but then again." Only to be shot down by the massive business brain that is gashead79: "Calm your beans topper! The Al -Quadi family has a reputation to uphold don't they.Would they have brought in top notch people to oversee the stadium project without having checked out all possible scenarios?Investment bankers do exactly what their monicker says ie invest not **** off into the night with the stadium swag."
  15. Steady. I'm not from Swindon you know.
  16. What an inspiration. And anyone who fought in Burma deserves the utmost respect as it is. You aren't really supposed to use your Army rank if you left service unless you are a major or above, but in Tom's case, I'm happy to make an exception. Lt Robbo salutes you, sir.
  17. Been very bored during the lockdown so my wife suggested that I do something creative and make a bird table. Now she's kicking off because I did one and put her in it at number 7.
  18. Starnes is very ill with C19 at the moment. He isn't in hospital, but he's far from well.
  19. I think they've now said you can contact your ex-employer and get them to retrospectively put you on a furlough, so you can be paid. It's good this happened. It's poor it wasn't thought of in the first place.
  20. Same where I live. Was amazed how loud it was to be honest.
  21. Think I was thinking of H5N1. I've read, somewhere, that bats were implicated with Sars. Great Horse Shoe Bats that may have been stored near the species that might have passed the virus to humans. Weren't they also the likely vector for ebola? I think the entire comic book franchise Batman may have to be rethought.
  22. I think the civets were the bridge animal to chickens. I may be wrong. Like the current virus, i'm not sure definitive conclusions have been reached. Incidentally, the current coronavirus is a form of SARS, so you do wonder.
