  1. I'm not sure you would go to a curry house to buy a pork chop.  Likewise if you go to most curry houses you know your choices are going to be veggie, lamb, chicken fish, or meat!!!

If you go to a sandwich shop, I would expect to be able to buy novelty and experimental fillings as well as tried and trusted fillings, which do contain pork, bacon etc.  And in a shop who's Slogan is "Your Way"  I would have thought this would be crucial

Now if the Sandwich shop was per se a Muslim sandwich shop selling food that is appropriate for a Muslim, then fair enough.  But a national chain?!  No I think they have got this so wrong.  if you cannot handle products from pig, or non halal meat (which is one suggestion I have seen posted elsewhere) then maybe you shouldn't be applying for a job in a chain that sells these products!

Sorry, call me pedantic, but the Subway slogan is Eat Fresh.

I'm only bringing it up as it was also previously mentioned by another user.

I agree with all of your points though apart from that.

  2. What Subway woke up one morning and thought - Lets ban Pork, cos the Muslims get offended by it?

They banned it due to lobbying by Muslims. Customers, store owners for sure - but by lobbying.

So 97% of the population has to go without due to the tantrums of 3%.

It's when you stick your head up your arse that no-body takes you seriously.

The problem is with Subway agreeing to it. It's no different to you wanting Halal meat banned, it's just an opinion which they've agree too.

97% won't go to their 200 locations, and the 97% isn't taking into consideration vegetarians, people who don't like pork etc anyway.

  3. What is your objection to eating halal meat then out of interest? You will of consumed plenty of it in this country over the years...

Nothing. I haven't objected to halal meat. You may be confusing me with other posters.

My objection is that pork isn't offered because of religious views, which I find completely wrong. Both should be offered.

  4. Stumbled into this thread thinking it was one of the rare posts in the non-football section that wasn't about race or politics.

    A cruelly misleading title.

Perhaps "Muslims taking over the Country" would have been better, and more in keeping with the tone of the forum!

Mind you, it's bloody ridiculous to not offer the choice of both.

It's not about Muslims taking over the Country.

It's main purpose was an annoyance of the lack of both to be offered.

  5. Isn't their slogan, Your Sub, Your Way? Well that won't be the case anymore!

Forgetting the highjack from our good ol' friend, which I unfortunately knew would happen,

Yes, and half their set menu had ham or pork in it!

You can now only order meatball marina or chicken :P

  6. Well I know as much about this 'meat-ban' as is in that Daily Mail article, but I do know that most if not all of the Subways in the UK are franchises, which is probably why only a certain fraction of them have made this change. I have no idea how much control Subway PLC has over their policies toward halal meat, I shall enquire in my local Subway post- haste! (And probably grab an Italian BMT while I'm there)

Don't the franchises have to buy the ingredients from the same place? Therefore surely it will be banned in all?

  7. Subway is, I believe, a franchise-based business so I guess it's down to individual branches/outlets whether they do this

Looks like it's not down to individual branches though. Well from what I can tell from reading the reports.

Have you thought of taking the matter up with the ECHR ?

    No?

  8. thats fair enough I've never really got Subway, I like to create my own sarnies at home, I can understand them doing it in stores in mainly muslin areas but 185 in the uk is far to much,

Nothing against Halai meat but I really wish we'd stop trying to please others the PM the other day said this is a Christian Country, I suggest we start acting like one and stop pandering

In Muslim countries it's fine. But in the UK where we love our bacon sarnies. Too far.

I don't even agree we are a Christian country but only 3% of our population are Muslim, it's ridiculous.

  9. quick question,

where did you find out subway are doing this (ie what proof?) which country is it happening or even area? and why go to subway when you can make a better sarnie yourself?

Daily Mail, Bristol Evening Post, all the papers really.

    It's in the UK.

And I like subway because I could "make my own" in the store, without the hassle of buying all the ingredients at home.

  10. Almost 200 branches of Subway have stopped serving ham, bacon etc and are serving halal meat only.

As many of you know I'm fine about Halal meat and happy for it too be on the menu, but removing non-halal meat, especially bacon and ham is too far. Muslims make up 3% of the population of Britain and some how the rest of the population cannot have a meat they want from a SANDWICH shop because Subway want to please 3%. Ridiculous.

I shall never go to one of the branches again, mainly because I always have bacon or ham with my sub, but also out of sheer disgust.

And before someone makes this anti-Islam, I have no problem with their belief's but the problem is with Subway for becoming a Muslim shop and forgetting most of their consumers.

    Rant over.
