I would've thought that would be if someone was using it in an aggressive sense towards the police.

It is mainly ignored by police if it isn't used in a conversation with them like say in the street walking past, and they do tend to give you a chance the first time if you wear in front of them. But it is still illegal technically.

Can you be charged with swearing? It wasn't against the law last time I looked.

Actually you can, if you've seen any cop tv show in the UK Section 5 public order offence will get you a caution (a criminal conviction)

So the people arrested were for the more serious offences,according to the police that is,so people were rounded up at 5 in the morning for outrageous things as criminal damage and swearing,because that's what a few people I know have been charged with,violent scum the lot them.

At the end of the day, the whole operation should have been better organised. Am I right in saying both sets of fans were allowed to leave at the same time? Of course there was always going to be scuffles, but better planning to keep the two apart after the game should have been reviewed.
