  1. UWE are not allowed to sell the land which is the main clause, however we all know how businesses always find schemes to work around things like that (following the letter of the law, but maybe not the intention of the clause). there is no money in football, unless they push to get into the Premiership, so hes looking at years of losses from the club as well as however much the training faciltities costs, and the stadium. Maybe he has some scheme where he thinks he can make some money, maybe someone who just fancied owning a football club.
  2. It think he's enjoying himself at the moment so they are safe. The training ground suggest they are at least in it for the medium term, will just be interesting to see how they intend to finance everything, and the fees Rovers will pay to Dwayne Sports to use their facilities and give DS a decent ROI
  3. So rumblings of big announcement this weekend for the Rovers... so is it UWE ? Will be interesting, or just the purchase of some cargo containers to hold their gear at the training ground. It's hard to know what they consider big news...
  4. I'm going to watch them next season hopefully, going to get a dual season ticket with my little pay rise.
  5. Did he not offer something else, or did it just put you off after that, guess it would be pretty scary that young becoming a bobble head over night.
  6. Looks like cystic Acne - he could clear most of that up in 6-10 months, but I have seen videos of him going a while back so I guess he's not getting treatment for it for some reason.
  7. His family do have some money, not the kind people bounded about, but he could fund a training ground. It will be interesting to see Rovers over the coming years and how money is flowing between the 2 entities.
  8. I guess it all comes down to ROI, he does have some money, does he think a few million is worth the punt... maybe normally no, but as he is emotionally invested he might think so.
  9. Maybe he will build it, all under Dwayne sports and just charge Rovers for it's use. Dwayne Sports could see a return on the money. If they build a cat 2 Academy, they can sale players to clubs and Dwayne sports can pocket the money, or move them into the first team saving themselves having to buy players for the club - so it might just be a zero sum project with the potential to make money for Dwayne Sports - as long as Weal and Rovers stick together that would not be a problem, it's when/if he ever leaves and he keeps the holding company and Rovers find themselves having to stump up a lot of cash, or loose / rent Dwayne sports land/facilities.
  10. It's a good move - if Rovers are ever sold then Dwayne sports still own the training ground and facilities so Weal and family can collect rent and fees from Rovers. Either Rovers dismantle their youth/training set up, buy somewhere else and put in new facilitites that will take time and money, or just bend over and be at the mercy of Dwayne Sports.
  11. Dwane Sports Group, owners of Bristol Rovers FC, today have completed their acquisition of a 29 acre training ground site in Almondsbury which will be known as ‘THE COLONY’. Dwane Sports Group will develop the site to accommodate the Club’s Academy and, to and to satisfy the training requirements of the full time professional players, as well as providing medical treatment and gymnasium facilities. In addition, it is hoped to establish Gas Girls football teams under the banner of Bristol Rovers and they, too, will benefit from the facilities available. It is proposed that Academy 2 status will be obtained, enabling the Club to develop and prosper a new generation of young aspiring professional players.
Chairman of the Dwane Sports Group, Hani Al Qadi said: "This is an exciting new development that, again, illustrates our ambition to build constructively for the long term future of the Club and its supporters."
Steve Hamer, Chairman of Bristol Rovers believes that the new training ground is one of the most significant acquisitions in the Club's history.
Meanwhile Rovers’ manager Darrell Clarke recognises the real ambition driving the Club forward and can't wait to work with the entire Club's playing staff all at one centre and said; “I am delighted Bristol Rovers now have their own training ground. I have spoken, many times, about getting the right infrastructure in place and this is a very important part of our plans for the future.”
President Wael Al Qadi is delighted that this fulfils one of his goals in providing the heart and soul and long term future of the football Club.
  12. yup, lets hope he can get rid of some of that rust quick - I think is it Bob Harris is 29 LB been at Shef Utd for a while now.... been training with Rovers for a while.
  13. I keep hearing the "rival" thing from them. The only way we could be seen as rivals is in increasing the fan base, but that has nearly always been more geographical, and the lack of competing with them for ... well I can't even remember, they simply are not rivals, just another club in Bristol that you hear about a lot... like your neighbours annoying yapping dog.
  14. Well they should have UWE news this week - so will be interesting to see which way that goes.......
  15. Really want to see that Hegler effort again because to me it looked like 5 yard tap in, instead he did the hokey pokey for 3 seconds and missed.... could have won that. Point is great, they battled, but still frustrating how little support Tammy had even with 5 midfield players... so slow to break, but hey... as I said point, that's the main thing - onwards and upwards
  16. Width, wing play, pressing, passing into space, players running, pace..... pretty much the same players that did that for us last season just seem to have forgotten how.
  17. lol He was available for nothing / zilch / free / nada in the summer and no one took a punt on him, and they seem to think they are hard done by getting £300,000 for him - is that the money we are getting from QPR for Luke Freeman's sale ? Maybe Holloway transferred some of that money straight to Rovers to save everyone some time and effort.
  18. I thought they had started building the car park to prevent this. Anyway, UWE cannot sell the land, Wael won't build a stadium on leased land.... not sure how much time / discussion either party really needs, as neither of those two key elements will change. Unless Wael changes his stance nothing will happen.
  19. did you not see the free kick going in ? He was not in position as he was checking his boots....
  20. Radio Bristol is going to explode when Ian gets on......................
