  1. Cheers for that. Always good to have a decent debate with other football fans. My post was in support of what Manning did in terms of the subs. You appear to have read it as condescending. Support for the manager (as I have) doesn’t need to mean unconditional complicity (as you seem to have). The latter isn’t really conducive to being on a forum with differing views so you might want to reconsider whether this is the place for you.
  2. The biggest credit I think you can give Liam today is on the hour he hooked Mehmeti and Weimann. That gives me optimism - I do think he felt Mehmeti was a player he should start and it was based on L1 as opposed to record at this level (as Liam said, they’ve done work without the ball so I’m not sure he’d have seen much in training), and I do think (and Liam said as much post match) that there was some senior player bias in Andi. But he chose the right players to take off - so hopefully he has the courage for those big decisions moving forward and the initial selection was just “teething”
  3. Bingo. This is a fantastic forum, one of the best on the web. The fact that the club appear to have prima facie tried to engineer it is totally out of order. The question has to be if Zuni was such a passionate Bristol City fan (and I don’t discount that people signing up who support the current regime are), why did he/she start becoming passionate when Pearson was sacked but decided to leave the forum when he was replaced. Did they stop caring after that point? Unfortunately the whole scenario has the fingerprints of the ham fisted way JL and BT have handled things. Own your decision you cowards.
  4. It’s mental isn’t it Dave (if I’m not revealing your secret identity). People who seem to think they’re smarter than the average bear not understanding the basics that give them away…!
  5. User: Zuni Joined: 28th October (day before Pearson sacked) Last Visited: Tuesday (day Manning appointed) Posts: 183 (so going from a new user to 18 posts a day for 10 days then zero, with several posts critical of Pearson/supportive of the board) We see you Jon. We see your bullshit. It doesn’t stop us wanting to see Liam being successful but if you want to block people (not me incidentally) on Twitter and bemoan social media with Joe Sims, maybe just understand how the thing works.
  6. I think we have to realise that under Liam, post match and pre match aren’t going to be anywhere near as interesting as under Nige - that’s not a criticism, but he very much seems to be a controlled, cliche, stock phrase person and I’m not sure we’ll get any insights - he won’t want to share as that’s not his character (and if it was Jon wouldn’t have appointed him) The looking down was noticeable today though and lack of eye contact is generally seen as someone who doesn’t really believe what they’re saying. I’d hope that is the case here as I believe he’s smart enough to know that wasn’t good enough today.
  7. What was interesting is that (particularly second half) he seemed to be further forward than any prior game. We know he’s got the carry in his locker, but he was very close to the QPR 18 yard box in the last fifteen on several occasions. Defending wise also excellent - my MoM with no real doubts.
  8. I hope the TGH theory isn’t correct. Like him as a player and he fits what our recruitment model is supposed to be. Mehmeti is, for me currently, a league one player at best. He may improve with coaching and Manning may well improve him to get him to champ standard but it almost belied for me Liams inexperience at this level - a very good league one player isn’t necessarily even an average championship player. Hopefully he learns that quickly.
  9. I’m sorry I don’t do impressions. My training is in finance.
  10. Pre match, when TGH was left out I described it as “Bloody Harsh”. That it happened in order to bring in Mehmeti, who has looked below this level since he joined, was one thing, but the fact it also lessened Knights effectiveness was a double whammy that didn’t need to happen. Simply enough, when TGH came on, he prompted, moved the ball around well, and released Knight into a further forward position which meant we looked far more dangerous. I get Manning wanting to put his own stamp on the side (and clearly he rates Memeti at league one, but this is the championship), and there is an argument he “needed” to play Weimann as it’s a big call to leave your skipper out game one, but it looked an aberration in the selection. It was an aberration on the pitch. Liam is apparently a total football anorak and will have watched a lot of our games. That he did that, and selected that midfield, is a very poor call on his part. I’m hoping it’s one he won’t make again. (Nb - some of this will be getting used to the players and hopefully he’ll have learnt a lot)
  11. Well. I said before the game that I thought Manning needed a good start both in results and performances in his first two games. That was almost as poor as it gets in respect of the latter. If we start in the same vein against Boro, then it’s not going to be good to be in Jon Lansdowns shoes.
  12. It’s an interesting one. As has been said, Manning clearly likes him as a player as he was top of his loan list. However, what we’ve seen from Anis so far is a good player at the level below who hasn’t looked comfortable at this level. I’m hoping LM is judging him by what’s needed in the championship as opposed to what he thought he needed in league one.
  13. Downsy@bcfc.co.uk as far as I’m aware
  14. By recommend I mean about how complimentary he was about McGuane, as opposed to saying we should sign him
  15. I’ve only seen him in that cup game, and as I’ve said prior, it wasn’t really a 5-1 game (certainly first half) and I thought Oxford looked strong in CM. For me, he fits the profile - still relatively young, good experience at level below and then you also add in his history. I like the recommendation from Elek as well. Will have to do some more looking but seems to make sense to me.
  16. Features George Elek from NTTT which is always a good sign. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/liam-mannings-lessons-mk-dons-8897745 Few notable points: - MK point to that a player Manning signed who he wanted wasn’t necessarily a great signing - Echo of the press conference about going Academy first - Appears to be viewed as adaptable depending on what he has - Improved both old and young players - I really want to sign McGuane based on that - @Spreadsheet Boy any data? - Oxford fan feels we’re unlikely to get playoffs this season but positive over 18 months Well worth a read
  17. Should also note that only reply if you have a booster seat.
  18. I haven’t voted but just to note that I think what he needs in view of the circumstances are at the very least a decent performance and not to lose at QPR, and the same against Middlesbrough. More than any appointment I can recall, the start for Liam is vital. Im not sure I see it as he needs x points from those 5 games. But I do think the first two games are huge. Technically 0-5, 6-10 and >10 as on that distribution you’ve given 10 as an option twice #pedantic
  19. Correct - I think we did this one a few weeks ago, but for record - we’d had a horrible start, and Ward had publicly stated that he needed help, requesting that Ray Harford come in as technical director or similar (so in effect asking to influence the appointment above him). The board thought Benny was a better fit for this role and his remit was the football across the club; if you like he was a more qualified version of what Tinnions current role is. The key for Benny coming in was his history in youth development - and he brought through several young players in his short spell at the club. City played Bolton, who were in or around the playoffs on Sky on a Friday night in October, we won 2-1. Ward resigned in a hissy fit after the game and Benny was put in charge. It wasn’t the job he was recruited for and he ended up with a marginally smaller ppg than Ward. However, he left the club having introduced the likes of Brown, Hill and Burnell to the team which left us in a strong position post relegation - ruined by Pulis signing a team of journeymen. Benny, by the standard of the job he was brought into do (development across the club) did well. Had Ward not had a meltdown, it may well have worked.
  20. Losing Shaun Taylor to injury was the single biggest reason we both finished second in the promotion season and then struggled the following year. We replaced him with Julian Watts - that’s like Lennon leaving the Beatles and replacing him with Ed Sheeran. They may officially do the same thing, but there is such a gulf in talent it’s unreal. I will always view that season as a missed opportunity. We had the wrong man in charge in Ward (it’s forgotten sometimes that he himself had said he’d run out of ideas) and completely lopsided the recruitment - two of Akinbiyi, Anderson and Thorpe would have been fine then you use the funds to get better players in defence and midfield. Akinbiyi though - loved him. Ironic that we recruited Tiny Penis and one factor was to try and keep AA, with TP then selling him and, IIRC, alleged to have benefitted as he had in his Gills contract a clause on player sale percentages and they got a sell on clause…
