Now this is worth a thread on its own. What, perchance might NTTDS' favourite band be?

'Grand Funk Railroad' is probably the right age bracket but they had few hits this side of the pond. Perchance early 80s guitar band 'Daniel Takes A Train'? If so NTTDS' they've reformed and you're in luck. One founding member is a neighbour of mine so I'm sure you'll be good for a backstage pass.....

After scrolling through my vast memorized archive of appropriate band names, I came up with... Train.

Nah, could never beat Charles Buchan's publication ‘Football Monthly’.

Shows I was a trail blazer as an internet football forum contributor and an astute observer of the game that I had a letter published, aged 13, bemoaning (nothing changes there) the fact that the magazine ignored teams from the South West. I highlighted the fact we had talent such as Chris Garland and Trevor Francis.

Think I received £5 for having the letter published - which was great riches in those days.

    Like another life frankly.

As a little kid I bought a bunch of Charlie Buchan Football Monthlies at the local church hall jumble sale. Proudly showed them to my Dad, who responded "Very nice. Now you can take them back... I donated them."

Well that’s a pretty good first half there. Much improved all round.

A committed team performance, pressing and tracking well, defending solidly in numbers and creating chances which is good too see finally.

Some excellent deliveries from Scott. Vyner solid. Williams superb. Benarous growing into the game nicely.

COD I felt showing how too often he’s reactive rather than proactive, making a few poor decisions, but is looking dangerous and drifted into space to create the chance for the goal in which he showed good footwork to get the ball under control and a slice of luck as his low shot deflected over the keeper.

Blackburn like working the channels and look dangerous on the break, especially Diaz off the shoulder needs to be watched.

Let’s hope we keep pushing on for the 2nd and don’t sit back too early.

Yep, agree with all of that. The ref's having a good game, too - allowing the play to flow.

  4. It's in the blood - my grandfather played a few games for City before deciding on a more stable career as a bookkeeper. My dad commentated for decades behind the Hospital Broadcast microphone. As a kid, following City was everything to me - I would even get upset if the reserves lost. I wouldn't trade those early memories for anything - from traveling across the country and the heady days of promotion to Div 1 to the emotional 0-0 draw against Fulham when a basement team of kids and veterans played their hearts out just days after the club almost became extinct. In my mid-20s I started playing in bands (still do to this day) and my priorities shifted. These days the disappointment of defeat fades much faster, but I still get that buzz of anticipation waking up on match day.

I will always remember the official opening of the new floodlights, it was a night game against Wolves, I think, and the crowd was over 30,000. I was in the shed and it was practically impossible to see much, as I was short and still am, on tiptoe most of the match, legs aching the next day. Impossible to move anywhere, as everyone was packed in tight, those were the days!

I had a seat for that game on the bench that used to run alongside the touchline in front of the enclosure. Sitting just a few feet from the pitch. Can't imagine that happening these days!

Two pics I found on Facebook a while ago. The second one particularly resonates with me because it’s that’s the part of the ground I used to see with my dad when we walked towards the Dolman turnstiles in my first years of going to AG as a child.

Typical end of season goalmouth back then - dry and bare. Keepers must have felt like they were diving on concrete.

Wasn't that the game were were 3-0 down with about 10 to go and ended up drawing, either Sharpe or Peters getting the equaliser ?

I believe it was Sheff Utd away, with Trevor Jacobs getting the equalizer. I remember hanging around the players entrance after a reserve game that day - that's where people would gather to hear the 1st team's final score - and at that point we were told it was still something like 1-3. Got the good news when I arrived home.
