  1. Geoff has done his job very well. I've come across him a few times through my work, an impressively professional broadcaster, a real asset to the BBC. We'll look back on listening to Geoff on Radio Bristol as we drive home from matches as we might look back on reading the Green 'Un, or Peter Godsiff or Richard Latham in the Post. Something else will come along but BBC local radio is on its knees and I can't see anyone having the time to build a loyal following in the way Geoff has. I can completely understand that at his age and after such a fine career he'd want to move on and do other things but it'll be the end of an era. Good luck to him, would be good to see him on the pitch at Ashton Gate to get a round of applause.
  2. I don't know how you do it. Fair play. I was in Australia for the Man City match - which was an evening ko at quite a respectable Australian early morning time - and that felt like an effort! I'm enjoying what's happening down at the Gate enough to have bought a season ticket for next season, having given it a miss this year. I think Pearson knows what he is trying to achieve, and how to achieve it and in fairness to the Lansdowns he's seemingly being allowed to get on with it. (Is it notable that we've not heard much from the owners lately?) As for next season - yesterday's match suggests things could be good. Tight squad playing for each other - and playing well - and lots of local talent coming through. What's not to like?
  3. Came back into that very well. Highly professional performance. Encouraging.
  4. Fine win. First in Italy in my lifetime. So very Bristol City that Grealish missed that sitter to make it 3-0 - and made the whole of the second half a nervous mess.
  5. Need another goal - could be a massacre if we get one. I've always had a soft spot for the Italians. Remarkable to see England outplaying Italy so comprehensively!
  6. Agree with all that Graham. Watched in Australia as the sun was rising. Felt a very long way away! Looked and sounded great though. Good enough to book a seat for the remainder of the matches I can get to this season. Promising signs.
  7. Good to hear NP on Radio Bristol being so positive. He's gutted for Rob Atkinson - although not sure how serious it is - as he feels that he, Vyner, Tanner and Pring have been outstanding in recent matches after a few difficult patches earlier in the season. In my opinion its very good to have a player with Kalas's experience ready to step in. Looked assured today I thought.
  8. Excellent result. Battling performance. Bodes well for the future.
  9. Despite the score this all bodes well for next season. We're getting there. Perhaps too many players still finding their feet at this level.
  10. Great strike to be fair. Pity we weren't as ruthless at the other end seconds before.
  11. Poor - sorry to say. Too sloppy in our passing - gifting them possession which let them get back into the game. City at their worst for about 15 minutes. Needed someone to step in and calm things down. What a wasted opportunity. Still - doesn't look like we're getting relegated!
  12. Best match I’ve seen at the Gate in years. We looked competitive throughout against a very good Championship side. What a gutsy performance. Thoroughly entertaining!
  13. Agreed. Excellent today. Assured in possession. Aggressive in the tackle.
  14. I was there...with my late brother and dad. As the players leave the pitch good to hear that fine old chant 'ello, ello, East End aggro...' Not heard that for a bit. What a cup run that was.
  15. ...and the unicorns are SOLD OUT. Still, there's always the bottle opener. The most laughable aspect is the disparity between the rewards and the cost of buying tickets. As if anyone paying £30 plus for a match ticket can't afford a bottle opener...if they really felt they needed one...I have to confess I don't.
  16. Laughable poor in almost every respect. Goodness knows who thought that up. Mickey Mouse doesn't begin to cover it. Cue a favourite old-time emoji.
  17. My response to the topic title is that it leaves me, personally, feeling much better disposed towards the club. One of the more effective January transfer windows, a clear logic behind the signings and a rationalising of the squad. Looks as though there is a plan. Looking forward to the remainder of the season and more optimistic than I have been for a long time about the future.
  18. Sods law. Out of the country that week...will be watching in Australia...whatever time it is there...
  19. Not at all sure why folk are so keen to start rewriting the LJ story at this point. Fact was he was a controversial appointment. Personally I liked him as a player but it wasn't at all clear that he was the man to replace Cotts. He was SL's gamble, and so determined was SL to be proved right that he kept Lee long after other owners would have bid him farewell. As a consequence LJ outstayed his welcome. Hence the vitriol. But the salient point is that having been - we were regularly told by our owner - asked to deliver a promotion challenge Lee Johnson constantly fell short. By comparison with previous City managers he was given the keys to the kingdom. If he'd left earlier and spent less on acquiring clubs that never left the bag he'd be more kindly remembered. Almost 500 games as a manager, never delivered a promotion anywhere. He didn't have it in him, I strongly suspect he never will.
  20. I'm also away. So yes, Man Utd - or Liverpool.
  21. A really enjoyable watch. Excellent. Suddenly so much hope for the future. What a transformation. Congrats all round but what a day for Sam Bell.
